Dark Paladin

Wednesday

Coming to mid-week, I wonder if the theme this week is "Crappy Holo Week..." but maybe that's just me.  Kinka-Byo is a Spirit monster who is Dark and a Beast that is Level 1 with 400 attack and 200 def.

Ignoring the normal Spirit text on all Spirit cards, we will move on.

When this card is Normal Summoned or flipped face up, you can Special Summon one Level 1 monster from your Graveyard.  When this card is removed from play, remove the chosen monster also.

There are actually monsters, even useful ones, to use with the effect here, but it sucks that the monster can only be Level 1 and has to come from the Graveyard.  Again, as I have done twice all ready, I ask, why is this a Super Rare?

Ratings:

1/5, both formats

Art:  4/5  As I said earlier this week, Spirits usually have nice artwork.

This little kitty is awesome. Oh wait, Disc Commander is banned. That hurt this card to the point that it is a junk card. You can get some of the tuners with it, but Quillbolt Hedgehog and Junk Synchron are far better for getting quick Synchros to the field.

His stats don't do much either, at least Otohime did something when she came to the field. If it brought back any level 3 or lower, this card would be golden. As it is, I wouldn't even play it in a Spirit deck, due to it's low stats and rather lackluster effect.

Super Rare

Todayʼs card up for review is Kina-Byo. This is what I like to see: support for lost deck types. Now this guy had huge potential/combos before the recent banlist came out. That being you can use itʼs effect to bring your Disk Commander out and draw some fuel. Since that happened, I am not really seeing much use for this at the moment. Possibly a sign of cards to come in the next few releases?

If we still had D-Hero Disk Commander, this card would be a beast. Unfortunately we dont, so Kinka Byo may never gets its shot at fame. It works somewhat well with cyber valley, but cyber valley isnt a card that often ends up in the graveyard. It would also work with Sinister sprocket to set up a synchro summon, but it wouldnt be very easy considering that the combined level of Sinister Sprocket and Kinka Byo is only 2, therfore requiring at least a level 3 monster to be on the field to get the lowest level of Synchro. If disk commander comes back, this card will definitely be worth taking a look at. Until then, its just not the best option.

Another new Spirit. Cool effect if you can find a good target for it. Had it been released before the newest banned and Restricted list, it would have been combo'd with Destiny Hero - Disc Commander. Unfortunately, I don't see any realistic use for it now since there aren't many targets for it. From what I can see, it can be used with Sinister Sprocket for Synchro tricks but consistency seems near impossible. I can actually see this impacting Traditional somewhat because of Destiny Hero - Disc Commander and combos for DDT variants but have yet to test it.

Super Rare

Kinka-Byo is another way to get back Destiny Hero - Disk Commander, but thankfully he is banned. This card isn't bad at all. As long as you have some kind of level 1 monster in the graveyard, you should be fine. The way I would use this card is to set it face down and flip it next turn to bring something back and then tribute both of them for a big monster. Whenever this leaves the field, the card you brought back by this effect is removed from play.

You wouldn't have to worry about removing the monster you brought back if you have cards like Enemy Controller or anything that requires a tribute. Kinka-Byo is a dark monster that is below 1000 ATK and can be used for CCV. Also your opponent could chain D.D. Crow to remove something you're trying to get back. It could bring back an Arcana Force 0 The Fool, Cyber Valley, or Relinquished (Summoned Properly first). It isn't a bad card, but it needs to find a good combo with it or something that makes a deck better.
