Dark Paladin
Friday

Closing the week, and coming to the end of the first half of our top ten of 2007, we come to #6

All it does is allows you to select a Monster card from your Deck and send it to your Graveyard. Obviously, this doesn't provide any immediate advantage, but it can later.

The good thing about Foolish Burial, despite being a -1, or sort of a -2, as you lose that card from your Deck, is that usually if you are using this, it's for a reason. Perhaps for a revival, or for a Fusion from your Graveyard, or even a removal to Special Summon something later.

Treeborn Frog, or something heavy for later as a game finisher are also good choices here for a dump. Foolish Burial is a solid card that is maindeck worthy, but not everywhere. It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish, but I would almost consider it a side-deck staple.

Ratings:

Traditional: 5/5 Dump something for Chaos instead of waiting for it to be destroyed? Dump something like DMoC and revive to bring back a broken Magic card? Or choose Sinister Serpent...This card is incredibly solid in Traditional.

Advanced: 3.75/5 More than solid, and definately deck worthy, but not everywhere. It can accomplish tasks, but may be better in your side-deck.

Advanced Side-Deck: 4.75/5

This is probably the simplest card that we will review for the top 10. Rated #6, it allows you to search your deck for a monster and put it in the graveyard. Treeborn Frog, Dragon Ice, Destiny Hero Malicious, Destiny Hero Dasher, Destiny Hero Disc Commander and Dark Magician of Chaos are all viable choices to put in the graveyard that can break the game. Phantom of Chaos can also use the card to get what is needed in the graveyard to remove for it's effect. This card will also be  big with all of the new "Dark" version monsters in the new set that is coming out. There are so many uses for this card that it makes my head spin. I have seen copies of secret rare cards go for playsets of this at my locals. So keep this card close, you will be needing it in the months to come.

Foolish Burial

Normal Spell

Select 1 monster from your Deck and send it to the Graveyard.

            So simple and yet so good.   Card disadvantage for major flexibility.

    This card is pure speed.  Nothing but the speed.  There are just SO MANY possibilities that one can use Foolish Burial for.  Sure, you lose a card.  I say, make your move worth it!

*Volcanic Shell – monster count in Graveyard+; 500 LP for another Shell; THINS deck

*Treeborn Frog – no comment;

*Disk Commander – obvious;

*Jinzo – Future Fusion could be better in mass dump, but Chimeratech might nuke your field;

*Dark Magician of Chaos – self-explanatory;

*D.D. Scout Plane – Strike Ninja, Skull Lair, new Dark Armed Dragon, Nephthys, Creator, blah blah blah, Phantom Darkness cards;

*Dragon Ice – shiny…

    Usually, a Monarch player would either have Snipe Hunter or Treeborn Frog in hand, and Sangan will just fetch the missing one to quickly discard the infinite fodder.  Foolish Burial, while you lose a card immediately, actually sets up Frog/Disk Commander/Sacred Crane-or-whatever-you-need a turn earlier than Sangan usually because Sangan will more or less be destroyed in battle or by Torrential Tribute.

            This card pushes graveyard manipulation to a new level.  Instead of milling 3 random cards (Card Trooper), now a selected monster can be immediately dumped.  Treeborn Frog, Destiny Hero – Disk Commander, Dragon Ice, Destiny Hero – Dasher…even D.D. Scout Plane with Macro Cosmos or Dimensional Fissure (although Future Fusion would do a better job by targeting Chimeratech Overdragon).  Oh, I forgot Destiny Hero – Malicious.

            Interesting aspect is that this card is an immediate -1, and consequently is also an investment.  Treeborn can provide almost limitless advantages, whereas Disk Commander will produce an explosive turn.  This is mainly why D.D. Crow usage is so high; the Graveyards can now be assimilated straight from the Deck.  Of course, monsters are only possible targets but there is only 1 Magician of Faith anyway to retrieve a Spell Card.

            Green Baboon – Defender of the Forest is twice or thrice more dangerous with this card because now it is practically searchable.   Volcanic Shell is also a good target; by paying 500 LP, card counts are immediately equal whereas the Deck is thinner, and you can obtain another Shell next turn.  Is this card…broken?

            Not really.

            No deck would run 3 copies (I cannot think of one), unless it is some sort of “uber turbo mill.”  Also, chaining Macro Cosmos to the activation of the Spell will permanently ensure -1 status.  Of course, assuming the opponent is not running D.D. Scout Plane, the target would probably be changed during the resolution (since the target is not declared at the activation), but it is all good.

            Foolish Burial is a ridiculously high utility card.  For old purposes, high ATK monsters (Dark Magician of Chaos always works…even without Spell retrieval) can be dumped for revivals, and you can even use Peten the Dark Clown.  Peten the Dark Clown, Destiny Hero – Malicious, Treeborn Frog, D.D. Scout Plane…they all provide field presence when the card fuels the Graveyard.   Going back to D.D. Crow, removing such cards will work as Smashing Ground/Lightning Vortex.  I personally think that the card should have an activation cost in LP (800 maybe?), but since this nourishes nearly every archetype (except burn…poor burn), all is well.

Traditional:   5/5           Sinister Serpent, get Light or Dark (whichever one is missing)…

Advanced:  4/5 Except for burn and maybe Banisher + Gadgets, every theme could use this.

The First Hokage Foolish Burial

At number 6, we have Foolish Burial, a really nice card that helps get a card to the graveyard fast. It just sends 1 monster from your deck to the graveyard. Simple as that, and there are so many deck types that revolve around the graveyard.

The most obvious combo with Foolish is getting out your Treeborn Frog from your deck, so that way you can just keep bringing it back and sacking it for Monarchs or something useful. Other cards that this card is good with would
be: Green Baboon, Manticore of Darkness, Destiny Hero Disk Commander, and sometimes even DMoC when playing Twilight Circle. Either way, this card has some solid uses for some solid combos that we have right now. I wouldn't suggest running more than 2 in most cases as basically you just mill your hand pretty quickly.

In Traditional, it might be a nice card, but there are still better choices such as painful choice, so you can get your Chaos bait removed faster. And foolish can only send 1 monster from your deck, so you'd still need a way to get another one to the grave.

Traditional: 2/5

Foolish Burial
    Yet another favorite as it simply states to send a monster from your deck into your graveyard. You can use this to combo with Treeborn Frog to get it back next turn, use it on D-Hero Disk Commander and special summon it with D-Hero Fear Monger, LADD, etc., or  just send a monster to the graveyard to special summon with Premature Burial, Call of the Haunted, LADD (Light and Darkness Dragon), Swing of Memories, and other Resurrection ability cards.

Traditional: 3.25/5 (Helps dump monsters for Chaos monsters.)
Advanced: 3.75
Ed  Foolish Burial isn't too bad, but it only works wonders in certain deck types. On its own, it's not good at all. It has to be played in combination with other cards in order for its effect to be useful. I mean, why would anyone want to send one card from their deck to the Graveyard? I know that you could easily thin your deck with three of these, but why not just thin the deck with searchers and then use a discard engine?

That brings me to the decks that it DOES do well in, like Volcanic Monarchs and Light and Darkness decks. In a Volcanic deck, it can quickly send Volcanic Shell to the Graveyard, allowing you to use its effect sooner than if you didn't run this card. This card is also capable of sending a Treeborn Frog that you just don't seem to be drawing in this one particular duel to the Graveyard, which helps with tribute fodder and when your spell/traps are being depleted. In a Light and Darkness deck, when Light and Darkness Dragon is destroyed and you had previously activated Foolish Burial to send a strong and useful monster to the Graveyard like Jinzo, you could special summon that monster onto your side of the field and then STILL remain in control of the duel even though a key monster was just destroyed. Or, you could just send a strong monster to the Graveyard via Foolish Burial and combo it with Premature or Call.

Basically, this card does well in decks that rely on the Graveyard, but it becomes dead when it's countered with other competitive deck types with cards like Macro Cosmos and Dimensional Fissure.

Traditional: 3/5 – You could always use this for Chaos Fodder.

Advanced: 4/5 – More areas that this card shines in.

In a Light/Darkness deck: 4.8/5

Volcanic: 4.8/5

Art: 2/5 – Nothing too fancy.
Pwii and #6 is....................foolish burial!

this card is a nice card. exactically how a card should be. not supreme enough to be splashable, but really nice in the right decks.

take perfect circle: you can use this to dump disc commander when you have a monger you know your opponent'll attack. or dump a maliscious to sp summon another and tribute it for a raiza. or any deck dependable on the grave. but just to put it in there for the burial/call combo will make this a bad card most of the time.

5/5 trad. dump a light/dark and summon a chaos
4/5 adv. for circle
