Winged Kuriboh LV 10

Today we review a very, very situational monster: Winged Kuriboh LV 10. This is, as you may have guessed, a Level 10 monster – and it has 300 ATK and 200 DEF. It also happens to be a nomi monster; the only way you’ll summon this is by using up FOUR cards (Transcendent Wings, Winged Kuriboh and two other cards from your hand).

Then, you get this onto the field. It has an amazing effect; you can sacrifice it to destroy all face-up ATK monsters on your opponent’s side of the field, then do damage equal to those monsters’ ATK. That’s an incredible effect.

With one drawback. You can only use this during your opponent’s Battle Phase.

That means if you go through all the effort of summoning this, all your opponent needs to do is get rid of it with Lightning Vortex, Tribe-Infecting Virus or Smashing Ground in Main Phase 1. If he can’t get rid of it, all he has to do is skip his Battle Phase until he can. Or even attack with something like Sinister Serpent, which is capable of destroying Winged Kuriboh LV 10 in battle.

At best, this is comparable to Reflect Bounder – it has a nice burn effect, but it’s very unlikely that effect will ever go off, and you’re really left with just a stall monster. I say at best because this requires far too much effort to be worth playing.

ExMinion OfDarkness
Winged Kuriboh Lv. 10

Welcome to the NON-broken CRV week! This week (except for Friday) we're looking at cards that aren't exactly going to be the first things players are looking to see when they open their next Cybernetic Revolution booster.

Winged Kuriboh Lv. 10 is the little kid chase card for this set -- a card worth WAY more to them than to you. Look for this to be exchanging hands for cards worth much more than itself at your local tournament or Duelist League...

...anyway, onto the card itself. Basically, this is a combo card -- you need to have Winged Kuriboh on your field and Transcendent Wings face-down in order to pull the combo -- difficult to pull without the Kuriboh getting Nobleman'd (if face-down) or otherwise destroyed by a spell effect (if face-up), or the Transcendent Wings gettings Heavy Stormed or something. The payoff -- a Magic Cylinder/Mirror Force.

Oh, I didn't even mention it costs two cards from your hand, so you need a total of four cards (five if you unfortunately drew the Winged Kuriboh) for this to work. You know my policy on 5-card combos...There's only one good thing in the game requiring 5 cards -- and that's Exodia. I hesitate on even using the word "good" there -- last time I checked, most First Turn Kill combos (be it Traditional OR Advanced) usually only require THREE cards.

Gee, 4-5 cards for an effect that will most likely only be hitting two monsters on average? No thanks. The only way this is going to win a game is if you somehow lull your opponent into a false sense of security, they have Jinzo, Airknight, and BLS out, you set Winged Kuriboh and Transcendent Wings and actually have the two cards to pay for it, and your opponent doesn't have Heavy/MST/Nobleman.

Snapper Winged Kuriboh LV10

Welcome to the first week of CRV cards in, like, a month! Today's card is Winged Kuriboh LV10, a Nomi monster, which for the most part means I'm going to give it a 1 or something…

If you didn't like Winged Kuriboh's stats, you won't much care for LV10's.
Moving on, and to reiterate what I just said, LV10 is a Nomi monster that can only be Special Summoned through Transcendent Wings, a Quick-Play Spell Card that requires you to send a Winged Kuriboh on your field and 2 cards in your hand to the Graveyard in order to summon LV10. Let me first say, "WOW!
That friggin' card be of the expensive." I for one will need to agree with myself. In order to summon LV10, you just need to throw away 4 cards, which is a real bargain considering the usefulness of LV10. *Is he kidding? I'm not sure myself*

So anyway, if you Tribute a face-up LV10 during an opponent's Battle Phase, LV10 will destroy all Attack Position monsters the opponent controls and do damage to their Life Points equal to the sum of the destroyed monster's original ATK. Now despite the earlier sarcasm that I have difficulty distinguishing from ramblings, this effect makes LV10 seem worthwhile, for should your opponent have a BLS and a DDA (for example of course) on their side of the field when LV10's effect activates, they'll lose a mega grandé 4700 Life Points, as well as two very useful monsters.

The key problem with LV10 is bringing it onto the field at a time you can use. In most cases, you'd Set a Winged Kuriboh and a Transcendent Wing at a time that you're about to get beaten thoroughly and when you have 2 cards in your hand. Then comes your opponent's turn, and that's where things can go horribly wrong: if your opponent activates a card in their Main Phase 1 that can get rid of any of the 4 necessary cards, you're screwed. So this means you need to fear Noblemen of Crossouts, MSTs, Delinquent Duos, and the like.

You COULD of course activate TW at this time so as to counter whatever your opponent just activated, but then you'd run into a new problem: your opponent would know what you're up to. Unless they're extremely ignorant and/or gullible, your opponent will not allow LV10 to activate at this point. So they'll a) destroy LV10 with a Smashing Ground or Exiled Force, b) skip their Battle Phase, or c) switch all of their good monster to Defense Position and attack LV10 with a Sinister Serpent. In all cases, you just wasted 4 cards to spring a failed surprise.

So as you can see, a lot of things can happen to foil your plans of summoning LV10. The only thing you can do to prevent this extreme turnage of the tides is to hope that you don't find a need to activate TW until your opponent starts attacking, at which point their doom is sealed, and when it would be a most ideal time to activate something like Final Attack Orders (hint hint).

All in all, LV10 is a really neat card that could prove extremely devastating. But all the work and resources required to make it effective are just not worth the outcome, as positive as it may be.

Advanced: 1.5/5. I'm sure you could put it in a special Deck, but which special Deck that is I do not know.
Traditional: 1/5. See Advanced.
Overall: 1.25/5.
Art: 1/5. I fail to understand the reasoning behind the dragon suit thing…

Coin Flip
Crap. Utter crap, fresh and steamy.

-4 card advantage... I don't even need to go over anything else.

1/5 all formats, all decks.

Dark Paladin
Welcome to a fresh set of cards which happens to be our second week looking at the new set...Cybernetic Revolution! These cards were chosen by me and I hope you enjoy them. Secondly, happy Labor Day!
Congrats to anyone with the day off (which isn't me...)

Let me start by saying this about today's card...

Sick effect IF you can pull it off...IF

First, this card promotes HORRIBLE hand management. You need Winged Kuriboh (level 1) from your side of the field. You then need Transcendent Wings from your hand. TW then requires a two card discard from your hand. Plus, you then need Winged Kuriboh Level 10 from your hand (or deck, hopefully the deck)

So, that's 1 card from the field
3 (or 4) from your hand
maybe 1 from your deck (more likely)

However, here's the payoff. During your opponent's Battle Phase, sacrifice your Winged Kuriboh Level 10 to destroy ALL face up Attack posistion monsters on your opponent's side of the field. If that weren't enough, the combined attack of all those monsters is deducted from your opponent's lifepoints. That's quite the effect right there.

In short, this card needs its own deck to successfully work in, and I admire those who try, and REALLY admire those who can pull it off.
Again, SICK effect, so hard to pull off.

Ratings:

Traditional: 1/5 Yata is here and that's FAR too many discards
Advanced: 2/5 It can do stuff, just so hard to utilize.

Art: 4/5 That's a plus...

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)
