Lord
Tranorix
Fushi No Tori

Today’s card is a rather underlooked Spirit, Fushi No Tori, a phoenix, to represent the order thereof.

It has the usual drawbacks/advantages of all Spirits: it can’t be Special Summoned and it returns to your hand at the End Phase of the turn you summon it, meaning it’s both unable to protect your Life Points but unable to be killed by Lightning Vortex and the like.

When it inflicts damage to your opponent’s Life Points, you gain that many Life Points back. It’s a monster version of Sebek’s Blessing, essentially, with 1200 ATK and a level of 4. That’s…not too good.

The fact that the ATK is so low makes it unlikely that you’ll gain a significant amount of LP when you attack with Fushi No Tori unless you manage to attack directly. Even then, it’s a mere 1200, unless you use an Equip or something – but since FNT returns to your hand, that Equip will then go to the Graveyard. And I won’t even mention Malevolent Nuzzler or Horn of the Unicorn, because nobody should be running those unless he’s on a serious budget.

If this card were Level 3, it might have potential. It might be able to fit nicely into decks revolving around Anti-Spell Fragrance, actually, with Swarms of Scarabs and Locusts to clear the field, allowing it to hit directly. But being Level 4 renders it unable to attack with G-Bind and Level Limit on the field (though it can get under Messenger of Peace…).

This isn’t really a bad card; it’s only that if it were a level lower or had maybe 500 more ATK or weren’t a Spirit, it’d be a lot better.

ExMinion OfDarkness
Fushi no Tori

Sorry, Phoenix would be too easy of a guess...that, and it kinda sucks now given the D. D. Assailant / Bottomless Trap Hole / BLS / Tsuku-NoC / BoM-NoC hate in the environment.

Fushi would be good if Life Gain were good. But it isn't, so Fushi isn't.

You have a worthless set (and a painful hit if their Enraged or Airknight hit it) and only a 1200 attacker. Basically, you have to pump this card up in order to get any real benefit from it...and if you do that, you lose the equip at the end of the turn when the Spirit goes back to your hand. This means not only are you giving up your summon for the turn, but also ANOTHER card from your hand in order to do more damage and gain more life. Not bad if you have Scapegoats and the equip in question is United We Stand (5,200 damage + 5,200 LP gain is just sick and wrong) but otherwise it's just not good.

Sorry, but if I'm going to be giving up my summon for the turn, I want +2 cards out of it (Tsuku-MoF-Pot, or Tsuku-MoF-Graceful with Serpent in hand) or -2 on the opponent's end (Tsuku-MoF-Duo.) (On the plus side, we know exactly how much advantage a lost summon should provide for all future cards that require you to give up a summon -- 2.)

Fushi No Tori

Um...so a crappy Spirit monster that lets you gain LPs when you're already winning (clear field, no worries about opponent's next turn, etc)? Omg slap three into your deck, quickly! ...Oh wait, this card sucks.

I could mention the cuddly, snuggly combos I'm sure you could pull out of your ass to make yourself feel that this card is at least okay, but I won't, because it's not okay -- it sucks.

And if you use it, then you suck ;P.

Snapper Fushi No Tori

Our final card of Harry Potter Week is Fushi No Tori, a monster could be debated to remind you of a Phoenix. But before I start in on its Harry Potter resemblances and give an overview of book 5, what does Fushi No Tori mean? It's quite simple my dear lad (and quite possibly laddicies). "Fushi"
is the French equivalent of sushi. "No" is to languages derived from Latin what "thumbs down" is to Ebert and Roeper. And finally, "Tori" is what my dead cat's name was. And then you must consider that the name is directly translated from Japanese, where nouns come first, followed by etiquettes, and ended with emancipation proclamations (or some **** like that). Once you come to terms with this fact, you can then decipher the perplexing code that is Fushi No Tori. So we'll just rearrange a few words, add some words whilst we're at it, and use some synonyms for fun, and then we get this translated meaning of Fushi No Tori: Tori! Don't eat that sushi! The doctor says eating fish will give you stomachaches that then you'll cough up fur balls all over the house! I think the name is another bamboozle in translations on someone's part.

Anywho, in the Order of the Phoenix, a few members of the British Wizarding Defense League begin to work against the revived Voldemort, yet face fierce prosecution from their wizarding allies who refuse to accept that Voldemort has returned. So that goes on for 800 pages or so, and then Harry faces Voldemort and his cronies, Harry's godfather dies, Harry learns a crap load of background information, and the whole world learns of a certain gloomy aristocrat's return.

FNT is not the best monster in the world, but I needed a Phoenix for today's slot and Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys would have been far too predictable.
With 1200 ATK, FNT can't do a lot of damage unto the opponent, but it can at least get rid of Flips and what not. As a Winged Beast it can be used with Enraged Battle Ox to gain a piercing ability, which makes its gift of only being able to kill Flip Effect monsters a tad more bearable.

FNT is a Spirit. Blah blah blah, sucks to be FNT, blah blah blah.
Nevertheless, FNT has a slightly interesting effect that is similar to Sebek's Blessing. When FNT does damage to the opponent via battle, your Life Points increase by the same amount that FNT does to the opponent. While the effect has opportunities to be useful, its ATK and Spirit status hinder its capability to serve you well.

Since it has such a low ATK, it's unlikely FNT will do any damage to the opponent without some find of power up. Yet due to its Spirit classification, standard Equips would prove to have been wasted when the end of the turn comes to pass. It's a neat monster, but it's got too much going against it. That, and Guardian Angel Joan is just so much cooler.

Dark Paladin
As Dark Magician Support week comes to a close, I decided to review a card that hadn't been reviewed in like 2 years, and not ONLY for it's purpose in a Dark Magician deck.

Apprentice Magician is our card for today, and a Damn fine card it is.
Seriously, if you aren't maining one of these, which everyone should be, you should side at least one. A restriction would also be a great thing for this card.

First, let's go over Apprentices neediness in the Dark Magician deck. Each time the card is summoned (including flip and special) you may place ONE spell counter on an appropriate target. That gives you an extra and much easier counter for Skilled Dark and/or While Magicians. Plus, as an added Bonus, it gives you another counter for Breaker with another attack bonus, assuming you've used his counter already. Plus this thing is summoned by Mystic Tomato (as well as itself)

Now, if that weren't enough, when Apprentice meets death, you can special another Level 2 or lower Spellcaster from your deck. Finally, if THAT weren't enough, you summon your choice in face down defense posistion. I seriously wish more people would use this card, and then use it to it's potential.
Apprentice Magician is practically screaming to be abused.

With the final effect, you can Special summon another Apprentice Magician (which could power Breaker AGAIN, or add a counter to Skilled Dark/White
AGAIN) or let's think a bit larger. What other Level 2 or Lower Spellcasters are there?
MAGICIAN of FAITH! Retrieve your second Apprentice when the first one dies, and your Magician of Faith the second time. Also, on the Spellcaster note, this card can help add counters to Legendary Flame Lord or even Pitch Black Power Stone. Furthermore, Old Vindictive Magician can be fetched along with Magical Scientist (Traditional) just to name a couple important monsters.

Two of these cards really are all you need, a third is necessary in the Dark Magician deck, but only really if you run Dark Magician (more than one) or DM and Buster Blader instead one and King of the Swamp. Miracle Restoring is helped by this card, if anyone uses that.

So, a restriction as I said earlier, would be necessary if everyone would use this as they should. Who DOESN'T use Magician of Faith? On a haunting note, Dawn Yoshi was right about Tsukuyomi, I could be right about this.
However, I'm not, none of you will listen to me, and I just did possibly my best review ever to be dismissed as sh*t. Oh, well *sighs* I just tried to be thorough.

Coin Flip
Fushi No Tori is horrible. Not because it isn't a good effect. On the contrary, this kind of effect is great. It's nice to be able to push yourself out of a danger zone while burning your opponent, but come on! Attached to a 1200/0 SPIRIT? 1200 does nothing. NOTHING. By the time you can actually do damage, chances are you'd rather DO DAMAGE than heal yourself. This card takes away card advantage and your summon. It doesn't supply significant LP advantage to merit play. This kind of effect should be on a 1700 ATK LIGHT monster with four stars and with a coherent deck to fit in.

Don't play it.
