Tranorix Emergency Provisions

Today's card is Emergency Provisions, another underlooked card. Emergency Provisions is a Quickplay Spell, so it gets all the advantages that come with that; it can be chained to M/T removal, activated in response to being Dropped Off, etc. One great use for it is to get rid of Mirage of Nightmare. Mystical Space Typhoon can be used to nuke your own Mirage in your Draw Phase, allowing you to keep the cards you drew; Emergency Provisions can do all that AND gain you a nice 1000 Life Points in the process. This strategy is ESPECIALLY useful post-ban, thanks to MST's restriction.

If you have it set along with a Trap, you can activate the Trap, then use Emergency Provisions. You'll still get the activated Trap's effect, and you'll also gain 1000 LP.

Another use is to activate this in a chain to Chaos Emperor Dragon's effect. If you have 2-3 M/T set and your opponent uses the Dragon, you will take significantly less damage by using Emergency Provisions. First of all, there will be fewer cards counting toward CED's effect (as the ones you get rid of with Provisions are gone [Provisions still counts though, if you're wondering]), and second of all, you'll be gaining a few thousand Life Points.

The card is, like Draining Shield, great in a Saturn deck, which focuses on mass LP gain. Its compatibility with MoN only increases its post-ban playability.

Typical tournament deck: 3/5
Saturn deck: 4/5
OVERALL RATING: 3.5/5
ExMinion OfDarkness Thursday:
Emergency Provisions

This card hasn't seen much play, and up until Advanced Format and the new Restriction List, there hasn't been a reason to.

With 3 Mystical Space Typhoons, a player could get rid of their own cards when they needed to -- or set an MST and use it offensively when their opponent used Harpie's Feather Duster or something. With only 1 in both formats, this may be necessary.

Post-ban advantage to this card: Get rid of your own Gravity Bind, Level Limit, etc. so you can attack if you need to

Both format advantage to this card: MIRAGE OF NIGHTMARE. Basically, anyone who wants to run the Mirage draw engine has to play 2 of this. Dust Tornado can't hit it because that specifies the opponent's side of the field.

On the bright side; if your opponent DOES Heavy Storm you post-ban, your field will most likely be full of M/Ts (and more in your hand ready to go) so it's a quick +4,000 LP.

Traditional Format: 2/5 (most people will just not run Mirage.)
Advanced Format: 3/5
JAELOVE

Thursday: Emergency Provisions

Rated For: Mirage of Nightmare Abuse, Final Countdown, General Stall

This is one of those cards that’s interesting and neat to behold, but is rather hard to fit into a dedicated deck.

Remember, it’s a quickplay meaning that it’s chainable to all sorts of spells, and can even work with cards like Mirage of Nightmare! In fact, it’s probably the reason Mirage of Nightmare hasn’t been unrestricted, seeing as how you could abuse both effects quite easily. However, that still doesn’t mean the card is playable.

Advantage F/H: The main problem with this card is that you’re switching card advantage for life point advantage. While there are several situations where Emergency Provisions might work well (i.e, you got Heavy Stormed so you chain and dump everything that was going to die anyways), it’s generally not a good idea to “send cards to the graveyard” voluntarily. It gets a few points for being advantageous here and there, but come on now, would you dump your whole hand for 6000 life points?             2/10.

Best Draw for the Situation: The problem with cost effect cards is that, if you’re losing, you often won’t have the resources in play to effectively use them. If you’re winning, you can afford to squander card advantage, but eventually that will make you lose! And if you’re losing you often won’t have the resour…… creating a vicious cycle. Thus, you really never want to draw this card, unless you’re abusing Mirage of Nightmare, but it’s still restricted. Tough luck.                                       1/10.

Attributes/Effect: I really wanted to like this card. I really did! But even post-ban Yu-Gi-Oh is simply not a game where you can dump field cards to the graveyard voluntarily. Doing so is suicide, unless you’re chaining it to mass spell/trap removal. But there’s only one Heavy Storm in the game! The chances are highly unlikely that you’ll get good usage out of this highly specialized/bizarre effect.             1/10.

Dependability: You can always depend on it to get 1000 life points if that’s your thing. It chains to anything. What this means is, if for some bizarre reason you need a card that’ll GUARANTEE you 1-2000 life points, this is it.                                10/10.

The Bottom Line: I really wanted to like this card; it’s right on the fringe of being very playable in some weird type of deck. Too bad.

A BAD Score:            14/40=             35/100

Cards it functions well with: Mirage of Nightmare, Gravity Bind, A Legendary Ocean, basically any continuous spell/trap.

Tony First of all, I'm going to give credit where credit is due: my man f00b introduced me to this card. I was sick of not drawing one of my 3 Mystical Space Typhoons for this card and I asked him does he have this problem. Well knowing the all-mighty master f00b, he didn't dxP but he told me he ran this card anyways. So I tried it...and now with the 1 Mystical Space Typhoon format, I'm running it 2 Emergencys! ^^

Incase you guys didn't notice it, Emergency Provisions is a QUICKPLAY magic; Like a mystical space typhoon. soo you can use it for Mirage of Nightmare AND *gasp* the greatest effect of them all (catch the sarcasm), you gain 1000 life! It's actually a reallly stupid effect but it does help you use 1 magical scientist and 1 more Confiscation or 1/2 of an Injection Fairy Lily pump.

Soo now the new option is that we can be running 3 Mystical Space Typhoons for the Mirage...only it's 1 mst and 2 emergency provisions >_<. haha...

Also, to all the people that are now trying out dust tornado...DUST TORNADO CANNOT KILL MIRAGE! IT'S ONLY YOUR OPPONENT'S MAGIC/TRAP! ALSO, THE 2ND EFFECT (THE QUICKPLAY ONE), IT'S BEEN CHANGED FOR A LONG TIME AND BASICALLY THE NEW RULING IS THAT DUST TORNADO ONLY KILLS M/T, NO MORE OF THE 2ND TEXT ON IT WITH THE QUICKPLAYS.

This is what I've been doing lately. Raigeki Break ^^. haha

I combo that card off with Sinister Serpent, Thebian Nightmare, and other random ish. It's not bad (actually it's BAD) but when you get it off, it's pretty good. Free Tribe, free Raigeki Break, etc...too bad no more graceful...it would've been another good one...

But yeah, this card we are reviewing today is basically this: a Mirage of Nightmare killer. Think about this card because Mirage of Nightmare is PRETTY NUTTY! draw 4 cards during top-deck mode?! pretty amazing.

Ratings
Constructed: 7.5/10 (only in certain decks...running 2 dead cards in certain ban-list decks are bad)
Limited: 5/10 (I guess gaining over 2000 life might be good? *shrugs*)
