ExMinion OfDarkness Thursday:
Balloon Lizard

This card, unlike yesterday's, has USE!

1900 DEF blocks most Beatsticks (except Berserk Gorilla.) So you just protect this card, and let it sit there, and sit there, and sit there...and then when your opponent DOES have the chance to destroy it, they may think twice about it because of how much it would hurt them from the effect.

This thing isn't all that great in normal Stall, but it's AWESOME in Limited. 400 damage is a lot more to consider there, and this thing can build up quite a bit. Just let it get to where it would kill an opponent, shift it to attack, ram it into their monster...their monster destroyed this so they take the damage.

But you know when you think you'll win with this thing in Constructed...your opponent will either Change of Snatch it and then Tribute it (different from destroyed so no effect.)

2/5 in Constructed, 3.75/5 in Limited.
Tranorix Thursday: Balloon Lizard

Today's card is yet another obscure IoC common, Balloon Lizard.

The stats aren't that bad; 500 ATK isn't much, but 1900 DEF stands up to quite a bit. It’s also searchable by Sangan and Giant Rat (though not Witch).

The effect is an interesting one. At each of your Standby Phases, it gets a counter (this only works if Lizard is face up); when he's destroyed, the person who kills him takes 400 damage x the number of counters. Keep this guy on the field for a while and your opponent REALLY won't want to kill him.

Of course, there are many drawbacks; there's no guarantee you'll be able to keep Lizard on the field long enough to make a difference, and even if you do, your opponent could just get rid of it with CED and take no damage at all...

You also take damage if you're the one to destroy it, meaning if you really want to activate that Dark Hole or Torrential Tribute, you'll have to think twice. Balloon Lizard is a fun card, but it's not really cut out for tournament play.

Typical tournament deck: 1.5/5
Burn-Stall deck: 2.5/5
OVERALL RATING: 2/5
dawnyoshi Balloon Lizard is an interesting card. The one who destroys is take 400 damage times the number of counters on it. 1900 defense means it will stay alive for at least 1 turn at the beginning, unless it's destroyed through spell and trap effects. Use some stall cards to keep yourself free from attacks, and when your opponent actually gets the opportunity to destroy this thing, they'll be in for a world of hurt...of course, that's assuming you can stall for over about 20 turns, which would leave you better off using Final Countdown.

Constructed: 1.5/5

Limited: 3.5/5

Limited is another story. Since there's lack of monster removal in draft, you'll keep this guy out for a little while longer. It's especially deadly if you combine this with D.D Borderline in draft. If this guy gets more than 8 counters, and you have more cards in your deck, you might as well tell your opponent to surrender.
