ExMinion OfDarkness Wednesday:
Watapon

Meet Magical Scientist's new friend.

Watapon is a weak monster that can summon itself if you draw it outside of the draw phase or the opening hand. There are better cards for normal Tribute fodder, and better ways to stall. Usually, you don't want to draw this with Pot of Greed. But just as with Gilasaurus, Scientist decks can always use one more free summon. If you can special summon this, tribute it for Catapult Turtle, and then use Last Will to fetch Scientist, you've won. (Same for Gilasaurus but you'd have an extra shot at it now.)

Scientist decks run so much thinning already, this could help. I still think Gilasaurus is more solid, but give this a try.

3/5 for the FTKO
Tranorix Wednesday: Watapon

Monday's card boasted an impressive 3000 ATK, with a self-boosting effect. Yesterday's had an even more impressive 3200. Today’s card is the mighty Watapon, with 200 ATK and 300 DEF! But...hey, he's Witchable, Sanganable, Angelable, Metamorphoses into Thousand Eyes Restrict, and is LIGHT (therefore Chaos food).

Getting back to Witch and Sangan, they are the cards with which Watapon will be combined most often. If you search for him with Witch, he'll go to the field instead of your hand. If he's added to your hand via any Monster, Magic, or Trap effect, he'll go straight to the field. That's...just about it.

It could be useful in decks utilizing swarm, or requiring some extra monsters to tribute; but you really don't want to draw Watapon, as his effect becomes worthless once you do. Because of this, he isn't all that playable.

Typical tournament deck: 2/5
LIGHT Swarm deck (w/ Solar Ray): 3/5
OVERALL RATING: 2.5/5
Omega Watapon is another one of the cards handed out at the Yu-Gi-Oh movie. Watapon is a perfect addition to any deck that has more then a normal amount of Tribute monsters.

Watapon is special summoned whenever he is drawn outside of the draw phase. This could be through a Witch of the Black Forrest or Sangan search, Pot of Greed or any other deck drawing cards.
This makes him exceptionally excellent when you have that Jinzo in your hand and you can't seem to summon him.
Being a Light type he can be used as not only tribute fodder, but as a sacrifice for a chaos monster. But Watapon shines (at least in my opinion) in an Angel deck.

Angel decks use more than a normal amount of Tribute monsters, and if you happen to draw him in your draw phase, then you still have the option to discard him to activate Arch Lord Zerato's effect.

Watapon is a new personal Favorite of mine, I'm giving him a score of 4.5/5.
Otaku

Hey all,
No normal breakdown.  Simply put, I am either missing something or this card is only for pretty desperate tribute decks.  Watapon is a Level 1 Light/Fairy, with a 200 ATK and 300 DEF.  Its effect states that when it is added to your hand from your deck by the effects of either Spell, Trap, or Monster Card, you can Special Summon it.  Okay, it has a few other uses-Defense if your opponent nukes you Sangan or Witch of the Black Forest and hey, you might get lucky and nab all three with a Morphing Jar or Graceful so you can summon something big!  Again though, unless I am missing something, that is still not too thrilling.

Ratings

Casual: 1.5/5-I suppose it can be added to several decks and maybe prove useful.

Tournament: 1.25/5-No.

Limited: 1/5-Though even if you could draft it, you’d have a hard time drafting draw power in this game.

Summary

I’ll say it again-if it’s good, I must be missing something.  Sorry for the short review, but I have a lot of stuff I have put off this summer and it’s starting to come due.

dawnyoshi Watapon was first used in the first duel in the Doma story arc of the Yu-Gi-Oh anime (coming this September butchered and brought to you by 4kids and KidsWB ;). ) It saved Yugi a number of times, and it has been made a little bit more playable.

This card can mainly be used offensively, where you can use it as sacrificial bait if drawn/fetched by Witch or Sangan. This card also works well defensively, where it can save you from a direct attack...the stats aren't going to get you anywhere either, so yeah, that's all it's good for. It's chaos bait (hate to mention this), and it works well for angels that want to get powerful monsters like Airknight Parshath out fast...then when this furball hits the grave, it will add to the ATK boost of Mudora, which is always a good thing.

Not much else about this guy really...he's only a furball kuriboh-wannabe really, except the angelic light version.

Constructed: 2.5/5

JAELOVE

Wednesday: Watapon

Rated For: Chaos decks, Tribute heavy decks, Lower level monster decks

I was caught by surprise by this week's card of the day lineup. I didn't even know the movie cards until I was sent their actual effect text, and Watapon has me a bit surprised. It's already been released in Japan (I believe) and I haven't fully deciphered all of its uses. I'll do my best in this review.

Advantage F/H: I don't think a 200/300 monster is going to provide much of an advantage. In fact, some of the cards that seem to trigger Watapon's effect are actually disadvantaged by including his effect. For example, who would search him with Witch, when they can find a far better monster for the situation? His real purpose seems to be connected to the draw engine cards (Card Destruction, PoG, G C, Reload) and so on. Even then, his effect doesn't really help unless you're running a plethora of tribute monsters. His "advantage" is that he saves a summon. 3/10.

Best Draw for the Situation: He's not really a good draw for the situation. He's more of a good "draw into" a situation. You want to draw this guy with your new hand, and save a free normal summon. This still doesn't save him from the fact that he's a horrible draw. Couldn't he at least have had 1000 attack or something? 2/10.

Attributes/Effect: Well he does possess a decent effect that's unique, and also serves as a light/fairy for mudora/chaos build up. He gets 5 points for that, but loses the other 5 for obvious reasons. 5/10.

Dependability: You can rely on his effect if you build up enough cards to augment his capabilities. What you do with it, after resolution, of course, is anybody's guess. Does anybody really care that you can get a 200/300 monster on the field? I don't. 3/10.

The Bottom Line: Interesting effect. Next card, anyone?

A BAD Score: 13/40=                             33/40

Cards it combos with: Mudora, Airknight Parshath, Pot of Greed, Graceful Charity, Witch of the Black Forest, Sangan, Morphing Jar, Card Destruction, so on and so forth.
