Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Giant Orc

Card Number - MFC-012

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating

Date Reviewed - 11.10.03

Monday - Giant Orc

Dark/4/2200/0
[Fiend/Effect]
Effect: When this card attacks, it is changed to Defense Position at the end of the Battle Phase. This position cannot be changed until the end of your next turn.

Besides his use in Fiend decks, Giant Orc is a great addition to a low budget deck. Also known as the "Poor Man's Beatdown".

And just so that everyone knows, it's Effect works the _exact_ same way as Goblin Attack Force. Your turn doesn't end until you end it. Meaning that you cannot say "I end my turn" and then change him to Attack Position.

Tournament wise, Giant Orc isn't that playable. Unless you're running a strict Fiend deck, then there's no reason to run this Monster over Goblin Attack Force. Competitive players know that even the smallest advantage is still an advantage.

Limited is another story. 2200 ATK will wipe out your biggest threats, or deal a nice sum of Life Point damage. Just make sure that you don't waste this guy when you don't have to. As soon as he attacks, expect him to be destroyed the very next turn.

Giant Orc
MFC-012-Common
Dark/Fiend/4/2200/0
Effect: When this card attacks, it is changed to Defense Position at the end of the Battle Phase. This position cannot be changed until the end of your next turn.

Pros:
Searchable by WotBF
2200 for just level 4
Common

Cons:
Big fat ZERO DEF
Having to Change position

Combos:
Skill Drain - Negates the changing of battle position.

Second Goblin:
Dark/Fiend/Union/1/100/100
Effect: Once per turn, during your Main Phase, if you control this monster on the field, you can equip it to your "Giant Orc" as an Equip Spell Card OR change it back to a monster in face-up Attack Position. When equipped to a monster by this card’s effect, you can change that monster’s battle position once per turn during your Main Phase. (1 monster can only be equipped with 1 Union Monster at a time. If the Monster that this card is equipped to is destroyed in battle, this card is destroyed instead)

Notes:
Well, starting off the WEEK OF GIANTS we have Giant Orc, though not as strong as Goblin Attack Force, he is quite easy to get a hold of and can become unionized. Being able to change position at the END of your next turn is still faster than GAF waiting basically until two turns after attacking. The Second Goblin Union combo allows you to attack -> have his position changed -> then in Main Phase 2 you can change him back to ATK position equaling no stuck in DEF with a big 0 for a target. The Union combo is helpful, but not always reliable. With everyone running 3x MST and many more Spell/Trap removal Union Monsters are a bit hard to use for tournament use sometimes.

Recently I seen quite a few decks with 3x GAF and 3x Giant Orcs, and I've also noticed that besides Counter Attack Traps using Mage Power and/or United We Stand works extremely well to not only boos their attacks but to give them an actual defense to stand up against the opponents attacks.

So, Giant Orc may be a nice beatstick for a Beatdown Deck, and can service Hades army, but for most other decks he might not be worth the space. I no it suxx when the opponent uses Change Of Heart and attacks leaving the Monster uselessly in DEF for your next turn, but it's still fun.

Ratings:
Casual: 3.5
Tourney: 3.0
ArtWork: 2.5 - How many Goblins does it take to screw over am Orc? Looks like eight, but that's because he has that big bone.

Upsides: Cheap (extremely cheap!) Goblin Attack Force; Great attack to add to your fiend deck; Did I forget to mention CHEAP!; Searchable by Witch

Down sides: Turns to defense like Goblin Attack Force; has to wait like Goblin Attack Force; Zero defense

This card will become a fan favorite in no time. It will help make the players with tight budgets better (like most of the Magician’s Force will make these players better) and they will easily become tourney worthy. The fact that they are fiends makes them gourmet Necrofear food. I have 3, but right now my deck just doesn’t have enough room for them. I would play them otherwise.

In Sealed deck tourneys, if you get your hands on this, play it without question. It’s attack and rarity  are both great for these tourneys as it will be strong and plentiful.

Casual Rating: 4.5
Tourney Rating: 3.5
Sealed Rating: 4.5
