Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Royal Oppression

Card Number - LOD-091

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating

Date Reviewed - 06.05.03

wartortle32 Royal Oppression

Pay 800 Life Points to negate a Special Summon of a monster and the effect of a card that Special Summons a monster and destroy it. Both you and your opponent can use this effect as long as this card remains face-up on the field.

Since this card affects both players, I don't see much use for this card. This card will prevent the one hit KO attacks where the opponent special summons a bunch of monsters in one turn. However, this means that you cant do it either. So the only deck where this is really playable is if you really don't run any special summon cards so that the opponent wont have a chance to use this. Perhaps a stall/burner deck may find it useful.

I'd give this card a 2.3/5. Not enough decks can effectively use this for me to give it a good rating.

This is one of the most pointless Continuous Trap card I've seen in awhile. Most Special Summons aren't very good in the first place. They take too many cards to setup, which immediately puts them in a losing situation. Not to mention it screws over your own Monster Reborn, Call of the Haunted, and Premature Burial.

If you really need Special Summon hate in your Side Deck, run Bottomless Trap Hole. Besides it working well against Special Summons, it also destroys all the heavy hitting beat sticks that we see so much of today.

Overall, there simply isn't enough good Special Summons to make this card worth using. The target is much too narrow.

Rating: 2.1/5

A Side Deck option if anything at all.

Today we’re looking at royal oppression, a card that when played correctly can be very annoying, and very evil… but it can also backfire, as your opponent gets the same privileges you do.

For a mere 800lp, you can negate any special summon. no more monster reborn. no more nimble momonagas or giant germs or spear cretins, heck, even cyber jar falls victim to this card. nasty stuff here.

Although, remember to use this card with caution, because like I said, your opponent also gets to use its effect to negate any special summons that you might want to do.

Overall it is a very nice card, and its defiantly sidedeck worthy, if not main deck, depending on your environment.

Rating: varies from [1/5] to [3/5] depending on what your opponent is playing, and more importantly, what you are. if you are going to put it in a deck, make sure to have minimal special summons. this is probably most effective against the likes of exodia since it revolves around monster recursion, not to mention momongas and spear cretins… overall bottomless trap hole is nicer since it removes the card from play, and it cant be used against you. use sparingly and with caution.

well... well, well... well, well, well, well, well... not bad... not bad at all... except for the fact that your opponent can use it... that's not cool...

I give this card a "meh" (what's that... 3 so far this week?)... it can help you a lot, but... it can do the same to your opponent - and you have to watch that....

Want my honest opinion? I like horn of the unicorn more than this... no kidding, why? because the opponent-aiding thing reallllllllly bothers me... especially since I'd probably only need it for one or two cards the whole game... and if I need that crucial reborn, that's definitely not cool...

2/5... it'll help... but its a double-edged sword.
