Oooh a new week, and a new CoTD. How spiffy.

Cannon Soldier:

Casual Play: 4.0
Tourney Play: 3.0
Overall Play: 3.5

Pros:
+ It has a good effect.
+ Decent stats, for an effect monster.
+ Fun card ^_^
+ Awesome in direct damage decks

Cons:
-  Even if its attack and defense is good for an effect mon still low attack and defense
-  Can be easily fissured
- Standard mon removal cards fissure, tribute to the doomed, raigeki, dark hole, etc etc

RFP: Well this card would stink, but its effect does make it playable. Its effect is interesting, because it can do 500 LP of direct damage, for a cost that isn't very big since it has a deck around it, and other direct damage cards.(burner) Now usually, effect monsters have really bad stats, like magician of faith, and mask of darkness. Both those effect monsters have low stats, yet they will be really popular. Now these next two pros, they are just obvious. This card is got to be one of the most fun cards in the MRD set. Its fun to do lp damage with this card, because it can do on average 1000 LP damage. Which is the same as a tremendous fire, without the 500 LP Cost. Also this card plays a part in a deck that imo will see play. The deck is burner, this deck revolves around doing direct damage. So you have things like Tremendous fire, and just desserts with other helpful burning cards, and this card is one of those.

RFC: One of the first reasons why this card has a con is, because its stats aren't to great. I mean 1400 attack 1300 defense? I don't think so.
Although you could power it up with a sword of the deep-seated, but its effect makes the card not that great. Also since it has low stats it can be fissured easily, but anything can be fissured, because you mostly only get 2 monsters on the field with all the monster removal we have. Also we have the standard monster removal cards raigeki, dark hole, tribute to the doomed, and even mirror force if the cannon soldier is in attack mode, and attacks, but with burner you don't attack to often so mirror force won't really be used.

Combos:

Change of heart + Cannon Soldier: You get to discard an oppenent's mon to do 500 direct damage to them..

Change of heart + magician of faith + Cannon soldier: same as above but you can do 1000 to them when you discard the magician of faith, and the oppenents monster.

Cannon Soldier + other burning cards: This works, because you can do a lot of direct damage with the other burning cards.

Cannon Soldier + effect monsters: Use their effect up and then discard them for damage.

Well thats meh cotd thxs for tuning in and have a nice day, and as always good luck and happy dueling.

Monday - Cannon Soldier
Offer 1 monster on your side of the field as a Tribute to inflict 500 points of Direct Damage to your opponent's Life Points.  Monsters used for a Tribute Summon or that are offered as Tributes due to other card's effects are excluded.

The only deck that in my opinion Cannon Soldier remotely fits is a Direct Damage based deck. The main goal to these type of decks is to quickly 'burn' your opponents life points away. The problem with this deck is that it is not as fast as it seems. I've tried the deck a few times but, it doesn't seem to work well enough for me.

Cannon Soldier works well when you just assualted your opponents life points with your monsters but were still 1000-1500 life points away from winning that turn.

Besides the effect, Cannon Soldier is a level four monster with 1400 ATK and 1300 DEF. Nothing special, but if you haven't noticed all the non tribute effect monsters have either low ATK, DEF, or both. 1400 ATK is fairly decent though, it can help make that last push to victory.

There will be times when this will be a useless card in either your hand or the field. You can't always afford to tribute monster(s) for a mere 500 points of direct damage each.

Melkor

What a fun weekend of dueling on Apprentice it has been! If you haven't already, check it out. It's really quite enjoyable, dueling online. That said, let's begin today's Card of the Day - Cannon Soldier. I have mixed feelings about this card. Read on to find out why, if you dare! Or care, for that matter! Which you probably don't!

Anyway, Cannon Soldier's stats are...bad for a level 4. Not many monsters will be overcome with a 1400 attack. Not many used monsters, anyway. Anyway, I say anyway too much. Moving on, we see its effect. I don't like it, if it's not specialized for a specific purpose. Exodia. It can fling Sangan and Witch of the Black Forest, and then receive an Exodia part. That's it's real use. Its effect in a burner (direct damage) deck is mediocre at best. It's just not that good; sacrificing a monster of yours for a measly 500 damage is just bad..even if it is weak.

It can be pretty fun to use, and it has a real purpose in Exodia decks, but otherwise, I suggest you just don't use it. Better methods of damage may be obtained very easily, and for much smaller a cost. Hell, even Ookazi has more overall potential!

Rating - 2.3 Great in Exodia, bad everywhere else. :\
