GX Episode Summary

53: Back to Duel
By HevyMtalKing

The new principal of Duel Academy Dr. Vellian Crowler and Vice Principal Napoleon Bonaparte are seen rushing towards the freshman boat with Crowler informing the new Vice President that there is a famous new student coming to Duel Academy with some narration provided by Jaden and Syrus. What the two principals don't know is that Jaden has begun his first duel of the new year facing off against the very student that Crowler is looking for. Jaden welcomes the new student and learns that his opponent's name is A.P.

The duel begins with A.P. summoning an Ojama Yellow in defense mode. Jaden assumes it to be a freshman mistake while the others question his play. While the duel progresses, Alexis and Chazz arrive to watch the duel and Syrus explains that A.P. arrived at their dorm to challenge Jaden on his own accord. Jaden summons an Elemental Hero Sparkman and destroys A.P.' Ojama Yellow and thus ends his turn. A.P.'s cell phone then rings and is answered almost immediately. The person on the other side of the line claims to be A.P.'s manager and talks to A.P. about his/her tarot predictions.

Dorothy then reminds the gang that the deck that A.P. is using isn't his real one and was made from several boosters that he had opened. Having learned the truth about tha cards A.P. is using against Jaden, Syrus and the gang continue to watch the duel trying to remember just who it is that Jaden is dueling. A.P. then plays A.P. plays Reload which shuffles his hand into his deck and draws the same number of cards. A.P. then plays The Sanctuary in the Sky card and summons Warrior of Zera to bring out Archlord Zerrato. Aster uses Zerrato's effect to discard a Mystical Shine Ball and destroy Sparkman. Jaden then proceeds to summon an Elemental Hero Clayman in defense mode and play Metamorphosis in order to turn it into an Elemental Hero Clay Guardian. It's effect then deals 200 damage to A.P. for each card in his hand.

Jaden just stands stall with his Guardian's defense of 2800 and thinks that A.P.'s monster is no match for it. Much to Jaden's surprise, A.P. activates Beckoning Light in order to discard his hand and bring a light monster to his hand so that he is able to use Zerrato's effect destroying all monsters Jaden has out on the field leaving him wide open to a 2800 direct attack.

After taking quite a hit to his life points, Jaden plays The Warrior Returning Alive and brings back Sparkman and fuses it with Elemental Hero Avian and Elemental Hero Bubbleman in order to summon Elemental Hero Tempest. Jaden then places a card face down and charges at Zerrato with an equally powerful Tempest. Syrus notices that Jaden's only going to lose disregarding the mean spirited comments about his summer studies from Alexis and Chazz. Jaden then destroys his face down card in order to prevent Tempest from being destroyed.

Jaden then uses De-Fusion on his tempest and uses all three of his monsters to attack A.P. directly and thus wins the duel. As A.P. leaves, Syrus begins to look in a duelist's magazine and reveals to the gang that A.P. was actually Aster Phoenix. Later on that same day, Crowler and Bonaparte come across an unorthodox Ra Yellow student who is upset that he isn't in the Obelisk Blue dorms. Crowler and Bonaparte lie to him saying that a person of his "stature' wouldn't be a good fit in Obelisk Blue.
