Episode Summary
50: The Mystery Duellist, Part 1

Mystery Duelist Part One

Yugi encounters a cloaked fortune teller and naively gives him his Millennium Puzzle in order to learn about his future. Instead, the mysterious figure steals the Puzzle and runs into an alleyway. Yugi follows a trail of arrows and finds himself inside an old warehouse. The Puzzle is chained to the side of a dueling arena inside the warehouse, and the stranger challenges Yugi to a duel without the aid of Yami. After a few turns, Yugi notices the various machine cards of his opponent and discovers him to be Bandit Keith, who is now being controlled by a mysterious villian who found him near Duelist Kingdom shortly after Pegasus jettisoned him.
Elsewhere, Tea, Tristan, Joey, and Bakura search for Yugi. Bakura's dark side takes over and seeks the Millennium Puzzle, disrupting the path of arrows as he goes. Yugi manages to defeat Keith's Machine King card, but his opponent uses an old tactic to draw the cards he needs to invoke the Zera Ritual and summon Zera the Mant. As Yugi watches his Summoned Skull fall, Bakura is outside and senses a powerful evil presence.

50. The Mystery Duellist, Part 1
Yugi has taken a new chain for his Millenium Puzzle, but it doesn't
prevent a fortune teller from stealing it. Yugi chases the thief, while
Tea, who was with him, will warns the others. On the way, she meets
Bakura, which is angry, because he wants the Millenium Puzzle. With his
Millenium Ring, he begins searching for the Puzzle.

Yugi meanwhile, has arrived by an arena and the fortune teller tells
him that they will duel for the Puzzle. Yugi has no choice but to
accept the challenge and he begin with Celtic Guardian (4/1400/1200), but
when it attack the man's facedown monster, it activates Cyber Jar's
(3/900/900) effect and both monsters are destroyed. Then, they pick up
five cards from their Decks and Yugi summons a defense monster, while
the fortune teller plays Mechanical Chaser (4/1850/800) and Ground
Attacker Burgoth (4/1500/1000).

With all that Machine-type monster, it's not difficult for Yugi to
guess that the mystery duellist is in fact Bandit Keith. Yes and no.
Yugi's real opponent is controlling Bandit Keith's mind and knows more
about the Puzzle then Yami. He summons Machine King (6/2200/2000), which
gains 100 additional attack points for each Machine monster, including
itself, and it's ATK raises to 2500, then destroying Yugi's Silver Fang
(3/1200/800). Yugi plays another defense monster. 'Keith' is getting
bored, plays another Machine named Megasonic Eye (5/1500/1800) and with
2600 ATK, Machine King destroys Yugi's Giant Soldier of Stone
(3/1300/2000) easily.

Keith tells Yugi that he better should give up and hand him over the
Puzzle, but Yugi refuses, then draws Curse of Dragon. He activates
Polymerization to fuse Curse of Dragon (5/2000/1500) with Gaia the Fierce
Knight (7/2300/2100) to summon Gaia the Dragon Knight/Champion '
(7/2600/2100). A Double Dragon Lance vanquishes the Mechanical Chaser,
making Machine King lose 100 ATK-points and Keith's Lifepoints lower
to 1250. (Why didn't he attack Megasonic Eye or Ground Attacker Burgoth
for delivering 1100 damage?)

Switching his weaker monsters to defense mode, 'Keith'activates also
Machine Coversion Factory, increasing the ATK and DEF of all Machine
monsters by 300, so that Machine King's ATK is higher than Gaia's. (The
real Machine Conversion Factory only equips 1 Machine-type monster, but
for the duel it doesn't matter). The King destroys the Dragon Champion,
and Yugi loses 200 Lifepoints. However, when he draws Summoned Skull,
Yugi is relieved and activates the Magical Mist Maikou, which fog makes
the machines rust (or destroying the Machine Conversion Factory). With
Machine King back to 2500, Yugi summons Summoned Skull (6/2500/1200),
which ATK raises by 30% to 3250 and destroys Machine King, bringing
Bandit Keith back to 500.

The man controlling Keith is impressed of Yugi's skills without the
spirit of the Puzzle, but warns him that it won't be that easy. He
plays Graceful Charity, which let him draw three cards (and discard
two afterwards). Put he put cards out off his sleeve on top of his
Deck and 'draws' them. Activating Zera Ritual, 'Keith' sacrifices
Megasonic Eye and Ground Attacker Burgoth for Zera the Mant
(8/2800/2300), attacking Yugi's Skull, which is back to it's original
2500 attack points. Yugi's monster is destroyed and his Lifepoints
lower to 1500.

Meanwhile, Yugi's friends are looking for him, but the arrows lead
them into different directions. Yami Bakura however, has arrived, but
feels another force from the Shadow Realm. 'Bandit Keith' tells that
Yugi better should give up, because Zera is invincible. Yugi refuses,
but knows that he is in trouble, whithout support from his friends
or the spirit of the Puzzle...
