Dark Paladin, Avatar of Chaos Nick (trance_extreme_2k1@hotmail.com) Robin Goodfellow's Duluth, MN March 21, 2004 15-20 people entered 1$ entry fee Prizes: First place - 10$ Store Credit Second Place - 5$ Store Credit Hey all, this is my first Tourny Report so please bear with me a moment. Plus the tourney was a couple days ago and I havent had access to my comp so I might be a little rusty on a few specifics of a couple duels so I appologize ahead of time for that. Now for the record this tournament was held at Robin Goodfellow's in Duluth Minnesota, a little shop located in between Superior Street and First Street on Lake Avenue if anyone wants to drop by for a duel. Now, the tournament began at 2PM and I just barely(and I mean I made it by like two minutes) made it to register. The tournament was played by random selection of the possibly 15-20 people that showed up. The way they ran the tournament was through a point system, the first four rounds were used to build up your points. You get 3 points for winning a two-out-of-three duel, you both get 1 point if you get a draw, and no points for losing(obviously). Now on to the report, starting with.....my deck of course: Dark Paladin, Avatar of Chaos deck: Monsters: (tribute Monsters):4 1x Dark Magician of Chaos (what chaos deck would be complete without it?) 1x Dark Magician (One half of my Avatar the Dark Paladin) 1x Buster Blader (The other half) 1x Jinzo (Dark monster, negates traps...What more could you ask for in a chaos deck?) (Special Summon Only Monsters):2 1x Black Luster Soldier-Envoy of the Beginning (In my opinion the greatest Chaos MOnster) 1x Chaos Sorcerer (Great for getting rid of Vampire Lord and Jinzo.Hail to the power of Chaos.) (Non Tribute Monsters):19 1x Mad Dog of Darkness (Dark, 1900 atk.Very few better Dark Monsters lvl 4 or lower) 3x Archfiend Soldier (Dark, 1900 atk. My personal favorite lvl 4 monster) 2x Spear Dragon (1900 atk Dragon, FMC ability, and a 500 point boost to my Paladin.) 2x Skilled Dark Magician (Fetches my Dark Magician in a pinch and 1900 atk is pretty too.) 2x Skilled White Magician (Light monster 1900 def and the ability to fetch my Buster Blader.) 1x Slate Warrior (Weakens a Jinzo to 1900, that's just fine with me.) 1x Luster Dragon (1900 atk, 500 point boost to my Paladin and its just a beautiful card.) 1x Witch of the Black Forest (Searches just about anything in my deck and she's a Dark Monster.) 1x D.D. Warrior Lady (Light Monster and is incredible for ridding me of Vampire Lord and Jinzo.) 1x Cyber Jar (Boom, all gone now we start fresh.) 1x Yata-Garasu (Honestly what Chaos Deck is complete without the "locking bird"?) 1x Old Vindictive Magician (for those tight spots when I can't get rid of a giant beatstick.) 2x Magician of Faith (Light monster and getting a spell card back is a plus.) Spell Cards:8 1x Card Destruction (Need I say more?) 1x Change of Heart (Hey I can always use an extra monster if only for one turn.) 1x Graceful Charity (Draw three and discard a light and dark in prep for chaos to come.) 1x Harpie's Feather Duster (I dont trust face down cards.) 1x Monster Reborn (Oh, thought you were rid of my Envoy of the Beginning? Think again.) 1x Polymerization (Fu--sion...HAAA!!) 1x Pot of Greed (In the words of Marik "Greed is good.") 1x Swords of Revealing Light (Stall for time if need be.) Trap Cards:7 1x Call of the Haunted (Come on back Black Luster Soldier I missed ya.) 1x Magic Cylinder (Nothing better than being hit with your own attack power.) 1x Imperial Order (Oh no Raigeki....I think NOT!) 1x Mirror Force (You attack? Your monsters go BOOM.) 1x Barrel Behind the Door (Oh Magic Cylinder eh? I just send it right back anyway.) 1x Trap Jammer (I attack. You activate Mirror Force? Nah I dont think so.) 1x Ring of Destruction (Nice monster. Boom he's gone and he hurt you too on the way out.) Fusion Deck 3x Dark Paladin (The heart of my deck, the Avatar of Chaos himself.) So that's my deck, now on to the report. Round 1 Me versus Austin(Multi-Power Overwhelm Deck) (a friend of mine from my local area) Duel 1:Austin 1-0 I can't remember much of this game except that I held off by 800 lp for a couple turns with Jinzo on the field, but he got over ran by United We Stand. Duel 2:Austin 1-1 This duel was fast with my hitting hard with my Spear Dragons until I got him Yata-locked in about 5 turns. Duel 3:Austin 2-1 This duel was fast and hard. Austin runs a really powerful deck that can overwhelm you in a few turns and that happened to me here. So Im down on match and I start off the next round with a whopping 0 points. Round 2 Me versus Eric(I think, if not Im really sorry)(Low-budget deck with Starter deck cards and a couple rares) Duel 1:Eric 0-1 This duel was done in a couple turns I managed to get my Black Luster out on my second turn followed by Jinzo the next turn by special summoning my chaos sorcerer and tribbing for Jinzo. Duel 2:Eric 0-2 Yet another quick duel I managed to get him with the Locking Bird Yata in three turns, he forfits awarding me the match. Alright Im doing fine one round down but Im hanging in there. Round 3 Me versus Kevin(Again if I get mixed up Im sorry.) This round Kevin had to forfeit before our first duel since he had to go home. Granted I got an easy win but I didn't drive three hours to get here just to get a bye. But still it couldn't be helped so Im going into round four with two rounds under my belt. Round 4 Me versus ______(Honestly I dont remeber the guy's name and Im really sorry about that.) (Light-Earth Stall Deck) Duel 1:____ 0-1 I helped this guy with his deck earlier so I knew he ran a decent light-earth stall deck. I won this duel in about 5 turns with my Archfiend Soliers leading my attack armada to vicory. Duel 2:____ 0-2 This duel was a little more tough. He manages to get rid of my attackers with stall cards and Sakuretsu Armor(a very nice card by the way.) Then he almost DECKS ME OUT by flipping Morphing Jar #2 when I've got four monsters on the field, and right after that he blasts me with Raigeki. Now Im in deep water Ive got a deck with only 5 cards left, my hand was Dark Magician of Chaos, Magician of Fiath, Change of Heart and Chaos Sorcerer, now Im praying for the heart of the cards and WHAM! I draw Monster Reborn. I Monster Reborn my Jinzo then I change of heart his Magician of Faith, flip, get my Monster Reborn back, I Monster Reborn my BLS-EotB then I trib Jinzo and MoF for my DMoC, I get my Monster Reborn back and Reborn Jinzo then I special summon my Chaos Sorcerer and attack with all for the win. Whew, with that scare in round four followed by a heart of the cards moment Im psyched up for the finals which pit the top eight scoring players in random order against each other in a single elimination style match-up. Now with 9 points I managed to score a ticket into the finals tourny. Quarter Finals Me versus Michael(Im really bad with names as you can probably tell so again, sorry if I got your name wrong.)(Sort of a Dark Magician type Deck.) Duel 1:Michael 0-1 This is another of my speed duels it was over in about four turns with me managing to get my Dark Paldin out with my spear dragons in the graveyard. Duel 2:Michael 0-2 This one was over in one turn. He sets three cards and a monster in defense mode, my turn I play Harpie's Feather Duster on his Magic Cylinders, 7 tools of the bandit, and Mirror Force. Then I Change of Heart his face-down with was the Old Vindictive Magician I flip and destroy itself. then I summon the Locking Bird Yata and attack, he forfeits since his only two cards left are Raigeki and HFD Now Im in the Semis, I wait a little while to see who Im facing and who should be paired in the same bracket as me? It was Austin the only guy to beat me even once today. Now Ive got to face this guy int he Semis? I wanted to cry, but I sucked it up and dueled him anyway. Quarter Finals Me versus Austin(Multi-Power Overwhelm Deck) - The Rematch Duel 1:Austin 0-1 This duel was intense, it lasted a good 10-12 rounds with a lot of back and forth between us. I finally managed to get him in lock for the win. Duel 2:Austin 1-1 Yet another incredible duel he overwhelmed me from the start, the only good move I did was using Cylinders to get him around 5600 before he slammed me for the win. Duel 3:Austin 1-2 This was my favorite duel of the entire tournament. I was tense since this was my shot for the finals, and it was against my hardest opponent of the day. Mid-duel he tries to Ring of Destruction one of his monsters I counter with Barrel Behind the Door. He regains monster control and decimates my lp down to 300 by using Barrel Behind the Door in response to his own Grave Robber. All I can do is defend now, then I manage to somehow get him down to 1000 lp. Im more tense than ever when I draw my Magic Cylinder, I set and play my Spear Dragon I attack his face-down which was Slate Warrior. Now he summons his own Spear Dragon and it looks like Im down until he declares his attack and I activate Magic Cylinders, he has nothing to counter and I win the duel with a grand total of 300 life points. I shake his hand in good sportsmanship and thank him for the best duel Ive had in a long time. Whew, the finals are here. But me and Austin duel so fast I had to wait for almost twenty minutes for the other Semi-Final match to finish(we were done with all three duels before these two were done with their first.) But finally a guy I met down at the Mall Tour in Minneapolis named Bryce makes it to the finals. I met this guy before and talked to him all through the tourny so I know he's the very best local in the tourny today so Im psyched up to face him for the championship. The Finals Me versus Bryce(Fairy Overwhelm Deck) (Hey, for once I remember a name right. Besides Austin.) Duel 1:Bryce 0-1 He has a really strong deck, and I was worried this duel. He managed to get Airknight Parshath with a Cestus of Dagla and Mage Power on so I lose over 1500 lp and he gains it all. I manage to draw my Mirror Force and put that down, then I manage to clear his field and get him in Yata-lock about 6 turns into the duel. Duel 2:Bryce 1-1 This one I was just blasted from the buzzer. I managed to stop a couple of his cards and get my Jinzo on the field. But he draws Mudora and juices it up with a Cestus of Dagla, Butterfly Dagger Elma, and United We Stand, then he over-runs my Jinzo for the win. Duel 3:Bryce 2-1 This one was over in two turns. I go first and set my Skilled White Magician. His turn he sets a monster and one card face-down. My turn I Harpie's Feather Duster his Magic Cylinder and Change of Heart his Hoshiningen I flip it and my Skilled White, then I summon Archfiend Soldier and set my Ring of Destruction. I attack with all three for a major 5100 lp blast. His turn he summons Mudora and equips Cestus, Butterfly Dagger and Mage Power which juices Mudora up to an impressive 3800 attack points, then I active Ring of Destruction on his Mudora for the win. YES! I won my very first tournament on a day that happened to be my birthday. I shake hands with Bryce and congratulate him on a great tournament and go to claim my prize. With the store credit I bought two packs of PGD and pulled Necrovalley and Pyramid Turtle. Two cards I had just traded away earlier in the day.*sigh* Oh well at least I won, so I wasn't too bummed about getting nothing useful in my packs.
