The deck is based on control and card advantage.  Nine cards in the deck can discard cards from the hand.  Ten cards can destroy monsters.  Five cards can destroy m/t.  The gravity binds, SoRL, and MoP are all there to protect my feeble monsters from death.  It’s meant to kill beatdown, and does a good job usually.  I was testing The Secret of the Bandit today to see if it was worth it.  Was it?  Read on to find out.  On to the report:

I got to the site an hour and a half early and to my surprise found a newcomer there.  It was the infamous (hehe) Daedalus of KSO (for those of you who don’t know, he is the creator and player of “Squirrels Gone Wild”).  He is apparently going to be in El Paso for sometime instead of Maryland, so I will get to play with a true squirrel master.  Anyways, I talked to Daedalus for a while about squirrels and the good players of the tournament, namely Michael (with his 3 minions that follow him) and Abel.  Michael is a very good beats player with a pony tail (nothing wrong with that) and his three brothers and/or friends (not sure) whom I call his minions.  When the pairings came up, Kris was playing Abel (that sucks for the first time here man) and I was playing Kieran.

Round 1: Blain vs. Kieran playing ???

Game 1:  I get a decent hand with Delinquent Duo, WotBF, Dark Hole, and Heavy Storm.  I went second, played the Dark Hole and the Heavy Storm to clear the field, played Delinquent Duo to get rid of some of his hand, and then played Witch.  I was forced to bind the field, leaving my Witch useless.  I fissured his monster, then Prematured a Sangan discarded by Graceful Charity.  I beat at his life points for a few turns until he played a facedown serpent which I used Change of Heart on.  My Magician of Faith, Sangan, and Serpent attacked him down to 2300.  I was Just Desserted for 2000 life points around this time, bringing me down to 4200.  The next turn I brought him down to 1000, but he was able to Gift of the Mystical Elf for 1500 life points.  I was able to still beat the last 2500 out of him (not sure how though).

Me:8000-7000-6200-4200

Kieran: 8000-6900-5900-4900-3900-2300-1000-2500-?-0

Game 2: The only life points I took this game was from my own Confiscation.  I believe I went second again, clearing the field, playing Confiscation, then attacking with good ole’ white magical hat.  The hat got one more attack in by itself bringing him down to 6000.  Then another hat joined the fun with along with a Magician of Faith that had been set, bringing him to 3700 and no hand.  Yata locked him the next turn for the game.

Me:8000-7000

Kieran: 8000-7000-6000-3700-Yata…

The next round I knew I was going to be playing Ryan, aka Minion #2 (He is Michael’s little brother I believe).  Earlier in the week I had easily beat his Exodia, but he had changed his deck since then.

Round 2: Crash (me) vs. Minion #2 (Ryan) playing G-bind (ahhhh! The mirror match!)

Game 1:  This was a beating.  He used confiscation on me; I used Delinquent Duo on him.  My Dream Clown got in 1200 early, but it was all down hill.  A twin headed behemoth was unstoppable, and I helplessly watched my life points fall away.

In between matches, I sided in 2 possessed dark souls and Messenger of Peace for my 3 useless binds.

Game 2:  This one was almost worse for me, although I did get him down to 1900.  I used a Confiscation early this game, as well as a WMH to bring us both to 7000.  I brought him down to 4800 next turn with a WMH and Dream clown as well as emptying his hand.  He proceeded to Snatch Steal my Clown.  I was able to do another 1000 damage somehow, before a Cyber Jar changed my 3800-8000 lead.  He got his Behemoth again, but I drew the card I needed, Possessed Dark Soul.  With a smile I played it, only to have a Solemn Judgment used to foil my plans and win the game.  My life points fell like rocks.

My Tournament pack was useless, but after the tournament I traded some of my old DBZ to get two more Fire Princess (I had one) and 2 more Marie’s.  I built a Fire Princess deck and enjoyed having 10,000 life points…hehe.   I guess it’s time for props and slops!

Props:

-Daedalus (Kris) for being a nice guy and all that good stuff…See you at next week’s tourney if you wake up!

-James for running the tournament.  Beatdown is taking over as you have feared!  We must put a stop to that!

-Grace for putting up with us Yu-Gi-Oh! Players and holding the tourneys.

-Paul for being meh…

-Adam for trading me a Fire Princess!  My DBZ is useless!

-Kieran for trading me another Princess!

-My ranking in the store increasing by 21 in one week (heh, I had only played 2 tourneys and done poorly (one win, 2 losses) then I made it to the finals last week).  I went from 40th, to 21st!

-Abel for winning the tournament and beating Michael. Let’s keep it up!

Slops:

-Minion #2 for beating me!  You will die to the killer squirrels next time! Buahaha!

-Abel for beating Kris.  Why’d you have to beat the new guy in the first round!

-Grace, Paul and James for putting Kris against Abel…That’s just mean.

-My tourney pack for being useless….again…
