I needed to rid myself of my gravity bind deck anyhow. I rounded what I had and mashed them together for a deck... this one. $5 to enter the tournament Unrestricted entry, but it's rigged certain ways so there are a couple of bis to make the numbers manageable. Prize: $15 of store credit Round 1: Voltaire vs. Sean(or Shawn, I'm not sure) Geez, what the heck? Chris, the storeowner decided to match us up based on first name... mine, starting with a V, was last, so I expected a bi. But, instead, it was Sean. Anyway, he's like this elementary-school-kid, and the duels lasted a while. Well, it started out with me believing that the had, like most kids there his age, the beating-down power of Ian(ranked HIGH at D&R, small kid) or something. I played my machines in defense mode, wasting 3 of his turns with Swords, and getting Oni Tank and Overdrive down. 2rd turn, I played Magician. Boom, with Swords gone, I just re-flipped to waste more turns. But, unfortunately, he surprised me with a typhoon, destoying my Magician and Tank with 2 La Jinns. It became obvious to me that he was playing flash-beatdown. Next turn, I played Witch face-down... I had a plan. He attacked, and Waboku. With that Fish pointed at me, I need help... I set another card in defense mode. Next turn, he sac's one La Jinn for the Skull... I checked my traps: Imperial and Trap Hole. Hoping for the best, I play Trap Hole. I was touching my face-down card, and probably from fear of Mirror Force, he didn't attack. The next turn was fun, and I totally destroyed his tactic. I flipped Cyber Jar, drew MST, Guardian of the Throne Room, Raigeki, Solemn and Axe. He drew 2 Dark Zebras, Malevolent, Harpie's and Man Eater. I remembered Witch's effect... searching... searching... FOUND! Jinzo was coming out. Since I flipped the Jar, I still had time to summon. Boom. Raigeki. With a clear field and an Axe, I play Jinzo and attack. He plays a defense monster. Draw. Nobleman, it was Man-Eater. I get rid of mine. He loses 2. Attack. Set Magician. He plays another monster face-down. Flip, Raigeki, game. Next game was quicker. I realized that while his deck was pretty well-built, it was nowhere near some of the other decks that were being played. But, it was beatdown, as beatdown are. I capitalized on that with quick hits. On my second turn, he was down to 1050, and I had Overdrive and Guardian both equipped with 7 completed on the field. It looked pretty hopeless for him. With a scrunched face, he drew his last card. His face brightened and he set it. I was worried... till I drew Cannon Soldier. Game. Round 2: Voltaire vs. Anthony Happy for having my first win this season yet not so much due to having beaten an elementary school kid, I reported the win to Chris. Then, Christian, one of the highest-level players at D&R, came up to me and kept shouting, "Come on, you're going to duel me now." But then, I was saved by a late entry. Err... I'm not so happy at all. This kid was probably still in his single digits, with no idea how the game worked. His mother was there, saying it was his first time there. Gah, I felt so bad for doing it, but I had to try hard as I could to move on to the next round. People kept staring at me like I was some kind of bully... dammit, I didn't want to face him, either! Round 3: Voltaire vs. Christian Gah, Christian came back and said, "Come on, you're going to duel me now," over and again. He knocked me out last week, and I knew how he dueled. Flash beatdown, standard as hell. 1800 attackers, Goblin Attack Force, staples, powerups... the whole enchilada. I let him go first, letting him put the first of his attackers. Fissure. I knew what he had down(from experience, not ESP) and it was a Trap Hole, most likely. So I set Magician. Another attacker came out, I got back Pot. Set Cyber Jar. He attacked, and things went haywire from there. Man-Eater and some machines come out to defense move. His attackers come out and clear the field. Damn. 2 Overdrives at hand, with some other cards... no monsters to match beatdown ones. I draw... Force. Set. He summons Goblins and he gets force'd. I play Overdrive. Hmph. What a surprise; Trap Hole. He plays Harpie's. Boom! I'm left with 3100 LPs. I play Limiter face-down and play Overdrive in attack mode. He looks confused, but still attacks. I chain with Limiter, but he was ready for it. Waboku! Dammit! Bye-bye Overdrive. Needless to say, I lost that one. His stylish flash-beatdown dominated the second round. I manage to get Cyber Jar out and use it... and somewhat to my advantage. Swords is a great protector for it. I get Jinzo out with 7 Completed. But, he eventually gets me with a dark hole. We play plenty of turns with no monsters... Eventually, he gets me down to low lifepoints, with his 3800 LPs. My last two cards are Change of Heart and Cannon Soldier. His only monster is Summoned Skull. Thinking I could've made a difference with Cannon Soldier and Skull attacking, and then launching, I play Cannon Soldier. Trap Hole. Change of Heart... attack. Next turn, I was finished.
