Hey everybody! This is my first tournament report, so please bear with me. On Saturday I went to Artifex in San Diego and played a few matches. I actually manages to get to T4. The tourney started off with about 20 people registered. Unfortunately, we had about 4 no-shows (basically, they gave the 5 bucks entry fee but then were nowhere to be found), so we had an even no-bye tourney. Even though the numbers were small, the tournament play was awesome. It was really fun, but the prizes were only so-so. I'm still looking for the staples so :\ ONTO THE DECK… Reign of Chaos 3 Harpy's Brother (attacker, nothing more...) 3 La Jinn (see Harpy's Brother) 1 White Magical Hat 3 Jirai Gumo (mainly a filler for GAF) 2 Dark Elf (destruction…meh) 1 Cyber Jar (destroys big monsters when you're in a tight spot) 1 Witch of the Black Forest (lets get those cards!!!) 2 Summoned Skull 1 Jinzo (let the reign of chaos begin!) Magic: 2 Fissure 1 Change of Heart 1 Snatch Steal 1 Pot of Greed 1 Giant Trunade 1 Heavy Storm 1 Card Destruction 1 Delinquent Duo 1 Noble of Crossout 1 Monster Reborn 2 Horn of the Unicorn Trap: 3 Trap Hole (two words: monster removal) 3 Magic Drain (looking for imp. order and tools of bandit to replace) 1 Mirror Wall (saves me a lot...lol) 1 Magic Jammer 1 Solemn Wishes 2 Shadow of Eyes Okay, so I made the T4 with this deck, which, to me, is awesome. I don't even have Mirror Force, Raigeki, or Swords! And I set a personal record for how far a reached. You got your prize when you either lost or won the entire thing. Losing in first round: 1 Pack of LOB Losing in second round: 1 Pack of LOB Losing in third round: 2 Packs of LOB Losing in Championship match: 3 Packs of LOB Winning tourney: half booster box of PSV You can see that the prizes are a little…unfair. Then again, I'm happy. I came to the tourney about 45 minutes early, so I had some time to kill. I looked around, tried to get some trades, watched some people duel on EDS, and then was challenged to a practice match. Okay, so I was sure that I was going to lose this. Coming into this tourney, I was sure that I was going to lose badly, as I was not confident in my deck's ability (well, I had no time to test the prototype). This guy was cool, but he bragged a little bit. Next to me, the top duelist and tourney champ (that is, until this tourney) was dueling a way too overconfident Exodia kid. And the irony was that even though he beat the top ranked duelist in Artifex, he lost in the first/second round. Reign of Chaos vs. Random Deck I started out and pulled a Harpy Brother, a Pot of Greed, and a Mirror Wall (which ended up saving me). I also pulled other crap that I forgot. He went first, played a La Jinn and said go. I drew, Monster Reborn, used Pot of Greed for Summoned Skull and Card Destruction. Yes, you can guess what happened. I played Harpy's Brother, Mirror Wall, and Monster Reborn (the last two in f/d). Then I card destructioned, finding a Blue Eyes in his hand (mwahahaha). Monster Reborned his Blue Eyes, suicided by Harpy by attacking his La Jinn, and murdered him with his own Blue Eyes. He wanted another duel, so I accepted. I'm completely blanking out on this one…really. But I remember I won. After that sign-ups were happening, so we both signed up, and the tourney started very soon. TOURNEY TIME!!! Of course I quickly shuffled my deck and got ready for my first opponent. It turned out to be a kid that looked about my age. Reign of Chaos vs. ??? (kinda odd deck…) Duel 1: I start with Dark Elf, Card Destruction, Monster Reborn, Summoned Skull, and one other card. He goes first and lays a Darkfire Soldier #2. Riiight. Okay, this guy is a newb. That's good. I draw and get a Jinzo. Now I'm like O_O. I lay Reborn, Dark Elf, and then Card Destruction. Like the Random Deck kid, he has a Blue Eyes in his hand. Now I'm laughing so hard! I get his Blue Eyes, and then commense in the manslaughter. Very fun. After the Duel he says that he woulda whooped me if he got his blue eyes out. I'm like, "Whatever…let's duel…" Duel 2: He seems kinda pissed that he lost last duel, and he suddenly starts shuffling like crazy. Ooookaaaayyy..wutever. I let it go, and draw a Harpy's Brother, La Jinn, another La Jinn, and a Monster Reborn. The other card I forgot. He goes first plays a 7 Colored Fish. I'm fine with that. I play Harpy's Brother, and do nothing. He decides not to attack, and does nothing else. I play my other La Jinn. And Suicide La Jinn for 7 Colored. He uses Waboku on the attack. He draws no monster. I play my final La Jinn, Reborn my old one, and attack him directly. Then I murder him. Easy peasy. Match = Me Okay, so, I got past the first round, that was easy. Now, I wait cautiously for my next foe… In the meantime, I manage to trade for a Giant Trunade (yippee!), and a Invader of the Throne (new ruling making Invader super good). Then the next round begins! Reign of Chaos vs. Maha Vailo variant This guy uses Maha Vailo, Walls of Illusion, and Labyrinth ones. Weird. But it was close, no doubt. Duel 1: It starts off pretty normal, I forgot what I got in my hand, but I remember that we exchanged blows back and forth until he got out Summoned Skull with an AoD. I Fissure Skull (yes!) and he tributes a Wall of Illusion to put it back on top of his deck. It does him no good, and I win. Duel 2: This is where is gets complicated. It really gets down to the wire, and we have to call over a judge quite a few times (to his annoyance). We start of regularly, exchanging blows back and forth. Nothing special. I get an early lead with him at 5400 LP and me at 6800. Now, let me explain what happens. I have Mirror Wall set, and a Fissure in my hand. I have just killed his Maha Vailo (With Axe) by Fissure. He tributes a monster (Labyrinth Wall) to get it back to the top of his deck. I lay a La Jinn, and decide to attack. Just a MoF, he gets some magic card (I forgot). Anyway, it is his turn, and he has an open field. What can he do? Well, this is what he does. He plays another Maha Vailo, slaps on an Axe of Despair and a Horn of the Unicorn, boosting up Maha's attack to 4350! I'm like holy shiznitz! This is bad…I draw, Monster Reborn…I could pick up that Skull in the graveyard, but that wouldn't help much. Then I get a plan. I pull Skull from the grave, and put La Jinn in defense position. He thinks I'm an idiot, and he instantly signals an attack from Vailo on Skull. Mwahaha! Suddenly, I activate Mirror Wall! "Maha Vailo is eliminated," I say calmly. He think's I'm lying. I calming explain to him that since now Maha Vailo's attack is less than Summoned Skull, he suffers lifepoint damage and Maha Vailo is destroyed. He is intent that I have to attack Vailo for it to die. We call over a judge, and the judge agrees with me. Maha Vailo is destroyed, and then I proceed to deplete his life points in a timely manner. Match = Me!!! Now I'm excited. I'm in the T4. Then I realize that I have to fight Jessie, who is ranked #2 in the store (now #1). Great >_<… Reign of Chaos vs. Supreme Destruction Jessie runs a regular beatdown with the GAFs and stuff. Duel 1: He wipes me out 8000-0. Duel 2: He wipes me out 5800-0. So I get 2 boosters, and Jessie wins the whole thing. Easy for him. I go and trade around, and finally am ready to make my hand disruption deck. My motto is that if you don't have a hand, you have no options! After the tourney I played the Exodia kid. He cheated. I used Card Destruction, destroyed 4 Exodia pieces, he used Backup Soldier. I say that he doesn't have another Backup Soldier because he discarded it in the Card D, so the last piece is forever lost. He argues and says that he had it layed down. However, I know he did not, because he had GB out, Solemn Wishes out, the face-down Backup Soldier that he activated, and that is all. I had Jinzo ready in my hand to negate any other Mask of Darkness'd Backup Soldiers, so I woulda won, and he woulda lost. But he is a cheater, so I left. Props: -To getting Trunade, Invader, and 2 more White Magical Hat (yay) -To getting into T4 -To my mom for driving me there Slops: -Exodia kid for being a cheat Send all email (no viruses please) to dark_eternal@hotmail.com.
