This was an officially sanctioned tournament by upperdeck and NO japanese cards were allowed. This is my 2nd tournament report and I think I will do a better job then on the first one.  Anyway, today is the 18 of January, 2003 and the tournament begins at approximately 1:00 PM, it always starts a little later though.  I was hoping my friend with a good burner deck would come with me, but he ditched me (Roy), so I went by myself.  Anyway, I was almost late, arrived at like 12:55 PM and people were already getting their tournament packs, so I hurried and signed up.  Anyway, we waited for about 10 minutes and during that 10 minutes I played my friend Kenson (2nd best duelist in the store, I think I am like 4th. By upperdeck points, I am 7th, but that is only because I started like a month later then everyone else).  He beat me twice and I beat him once, and I knew that I did not want to face him in the first round.  Well, the tournament started and I had to play another friend, ranked 4th by points at the store, in the first round.  David, the champion of the store got a bye. Grrrr.

Round 1: 16 participants left (Beatdown Deck vs. Beatdown Deck)

Match: 1

We flipped a coin to see who would go first and I won the toss and elected to go first.  My hand was pretty good.  Monster Reborn, TTTD, Gearfried, Man Eater, and Wall of Illusion (WoI).  I drew a card and it was Magic Jammer, so I played magic jammer in my m/t zone and set my man eater. I ended my turn and he went, all he did was set a mon.  I flipped my man eater and played Gearfried in attack mode and attacked him for 2250, but he used koribo on my gearfried, so he only took 450.  He set another monster and ended his turn.  I played WoI face down and attacked with Gearfried again.  Next turn he played 2 m/t and played GAF (Goblin Attack Force) in attack and attacked my Gearfried.  I played Sangan and flipped my WoI and attacked him for 1000. I also played Heavy storm and set 1 m/t.  He played an 1800 attacker (forgot which one) but I trap holed it.  I played another m/t and played WotBF in attack and attacked him for 3100.  He played another 1800 attacker and killed my witch. I searched for GAF. I played Monster Reborn on his GAF and played my GAF and attacked him for 4800 and won the game.

Match: 2

My hand was Ok and he went first. He set 2 m/t and set a mon.  I played Heavy Storm and Dark Hole. Then I played Gearfried in attack and attacked him for 1800.  On his turn he played a mon in defense and ended.  I played a GAF and attacked with Gearfried, killing his mon, then I attacked with my GAF for 2300!  He played defense yet again and I played Raigeki and attacked him for 1800 again.  He played a GAF and attacked my Gearfried.  Next turn I played La Jinn and attacked his GAF and then I attacked with my GAF ending the game.

Record: 2-0

I defeated him twice in about 5 minutes (I think that the shuffling and drawing lasted longer then the games) and since I finished so fast, I went to watch Kenson play.  He won 2-1, I think and we advanced to the next round.  David now had to play someone, I hoped he would lose because even if I did get to the finals, I would most likely lose to him.  Anyway, everyone finished except two people, a little kid, maybe 9-10 against this girl who looked about 15.  This duel was taking forever because they both had decks with about a million cards in them.  The little kid won and he moved on to the next round.  The first round lasted about 45 minutes because of them two. There was no time limit.  Anyway, I found out I would be playing a little kid named Benett in the second round and since he was little I thought it would be no problem.

Round 2: 8 participants left (Beatdown Deck vs. Dragon Deck, I guess)

Match: 1

I had a good hand and said I would go first.  I set WotBF and played 2 cards in my m/t zone.  He played a La Jinn and attacked my witch, I searched for GAF.  He then ended his turn.  I played GAF and attacked him dealing 500 damage.  He then drew and ended his turn, he couldn’t draw anything.  I played Gearfried in attack mode and did 1800 more damage.  Next turn he summoned Harpies brother, but I quickly trap holed it.  I then attacked with GAF and Gearfried, bringing him down to 1600 life points.  He played another Harpies brother but I trap holed that one also and next turn I beat him with Gearfried.

Match: 2

I had a very crappy hand with Imperial order, magic jammer, Cyber Jar, TTTD and fissure in my hand.  He lost, so he would be going first.  He played 2 m/t and played a 7 colors in attack mode.  I drew and it was Sangan.  I used fissure, and played 2 m/t in my m/t zone.  I also set Sangan, so I have some defense.  He played Dark Hole and I used Magic Jammer, discarding my Cyber Jar.  Harpies Bro and attacked Sangan and I searched for WotBF.  I then drew and it was a magic card, so I played my witch in defense and ended my turn.  He played mystical space typhoon on my imperial order, so I had to activate it.  He then attacked my witch and I searched for GAF.  I drew and it was another magic card.  I discarded my Imperial Order which was not a smart thing to do.  I played GAF and attacked him for 2300.  He took 500.  Next turn, he played Lord of D. AAAA!!!!! He played flute of summoning dragon and he played 2 BEWDS. OMFG!! He attacked my GAF with Lord of D. and did 6000 damage to me.  Next turn I drew….suspense…Heart of the Cards, Guide Me!!!!! Then, all of a sudden, I was relieved.  (Yami Yugi voice) “I play Swords of Revealing Light!!!”  I ended my turn with than and since he couldn’t attack, he just ended his turn.  I drew and it was cannon soldier.  I set him and ended my turn.  He drew and ended his turn.  I drew a GAF and ended my turn by setting it (I know 0 defense, but if I had summoned him, I would have taken 700.  He drew again and ended his turn yet again.  It all came down to this, swords had worn off and I needed this card to save me.  I drew none other than RAIGEKI, obliterating all his monsters.  I flip summoned both cannon soldier and GAF and attacked for 3700, then I sacrificed GAF to do 500 more to him. I was at 2000 and he was at 3800.  He drew and he had nothing again.  I drew Gearfried and played him attacking for 3200.  He was down to 600. I sacrificed both Gearfried and Cannon Soldier to win the game.

Record: 4-0

Well, that was something, wasn’t it now?  Well, I moved on and Kenson had to play the little kid with a million cards in his deck, so he beat him rather easily. Both Kenson and I were undefeated going into the 3rd round and guess what the match up was? Me versus Kenson, wow!  Anyway, David killed his opponent and my other friend Peter defeated Andy, the 3rd ranked player in the store (he is also a friend).  So, the semifinals were set, me vs Kenson and David vs Peter.  This was going to be one tough duel for me, but I wasn’t about to back down.

Round 3: Semifinals (4 participants left) (Beatdown Deck vs. Beatdown Deck, again)

Match: 1

I started out with an ok hand and Kenson went first. He played a card in his m/t zone and set a monster.  I drew and set 1 m/t and played Gearfried and attacked.  Man eater bug.  He went and attacked me with GAF, causing 2300 damage.  Next turn, I attacked with Sangan.  I also set another card in my m/t zone.  He played Harpies bro and I trap holed it.  I played La jinn and attacked him for 2800.  On his turn he played raigeki and I used Imperial order.  He then played Harpies bro and attacked my sangan.  5200 him and 7200 me.  I searched for witch and shuffled my deck.  I discarded Imperial Order and played witch in defense, then I attacked his harpies bro with my la jinn causing them both to die.  On his turn he played another 1800 attacker and attacked my witch.  I searched for my GAF and shuffled again.  I drew a card and played it face down in my m/t zone.  I played GAF and attacked him for 500.  4700 him, 7200 me.  He played an 1800 attacker and attacked my GAF, I used waboku.  I drew and ended my turn by setting a m/t.  He played GAF and attacked me with his 1800 and then GAF..  Him 4700, me 4900.  I played a GAF and attacked his GAF.  He then didn’t play anything but attacked my GAF.   Waboku.  I drew and used snatch steal on his 1800 attacker and and attacked him for 4100.  Him: 600, me 4900.  He activated imperial order and got back his harpies bro and summoned cannon soldier.  He attacked me and kept attacking to take the game.

Match: 2

I had an ok hand and was beating on him until he had about 1700 left. Then he mounted a comeback like last game and he got me down to about 1700 too.  For the next 2 turns we didn’t draw monsters and then on his 3rd turn, he drew a harpies brother and attacked me for the game.  I don’t remember much of this duel except how it ended.

RECORD: 4-2

We finished rather quickly and went on to watch peter and the fool (david, that’s his nickname) play and their match took much longer but in the end, the fool prevailed over peter.  The finals was Kenson against David and kenson literally crushed him in the first game.  David killed him in the second game, and the third game was fairly close but David came out on top.  David is still first in the store and Kenson is now second, due to the fact that I knocked out the 2nd guy in the first round, so he dropped to 4th.  All in all, this was a good day, even though I didn’t win.  I also want to ask you guys once again to rate my deck since I have made some changes and you can do this on a scale of 1-10.  My e-mail is dadudewitatude11@cs.com and u can send ur ratings, comments, questions, rants or hate mail there.
