Deck Name: Chain Burn My Name: Raymond Babbitt Location: Past Time, Orem, Utah OK, week two for my tournament reports. Unfortunately, I misunderstood the instructions for posting and I ended up with very long lines after posting. I hope you enjoyed scrolling last week, but I shall try to get it right this time. :) Here's the deck. It hasn't changed much since last week, but after this tournament, it will. :( Critters --------- Morphing Jar (anti-Exodia / thin deck) Jinzo (beatdown even with Gravity Bind out) Sinister Serpent (ongoing block and discard for Magic Jammer and Tribute to the Doomed) Cyber Jar (defense / thin deck) 3x Nimble Momunga (Killer Squirrels! / thin deck / early Jinzo) 2x Goblin Attack Force (mix up the strategy a little / works well with side deck) 2x Servant of Catabolism (direct damage / use with United We Stand and Mage Power) 2x Amazon Archer (use with Scapegoats for the big hurt) Magic Cards --------------- 3x Chain Energy (great first turn burner / great meta game card) 3x Scapegoats (defense / burn with Amazon Archer) 2x Giant Trunade (eliminate traps for a turn / use with Chain Energy and Swords) Heavy Storm Harpies Feather Duster United We Stand (great with Scapegoats) Mage Power 2x Graceful Charity (thin deck) Pot of Greed (thin deck) Dark Hole Raigeki Swords of Revealing Light Change of Heart Trap Cards -------------- 2x Magic Jammer (protect all of my permanent magic/trap cards) Imperial Order (ditto) 3x Gravity Bind Mirror Force Skull Lair (great stall card) Magic Cylinder Total: 41 cards Side Deck ------------ 2x 7 Colored Fish 3x Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer 3x Bazoo the Soul Eater 2x Tribute to the Doomed 2x Nobleman of Crossout 2x 7 Tools of the Bandit Giant Trunade The tournament was at Past Times in Orem, Utah. The format is best 2-out-of-3 matches per round. Cost is $4 and every player gets a pack that they pick up after losing. The first and second place players get three packs each. Ok, now for the report: Round #1 – Me vs. Preston Preston has a standard beatdown deck, so he didn't do too good against me and that's what I'm tuned for. I started out by smacking him with the Servant of Catabolism (Jinzo #7's replacement) and I bounced back his counter attack with the Gravity Bind. He decided to set a Penguine Soldier which I played Change of Heart on and laid down the big smack. I can't remember the exact details, but I know I finished him with the Servant of Catabolism and some fire power from my Amazon Archer. First Match: 1-0 Me: 8000 Him: 8000 - 7300 - 2550 - 1350 - 650 - 0 The second match he played Dian Keto on his first turn, so the Chain Energy I played on my first turn didn't hurt as much as it could have. I got out another early Servant, this time protected by Swords of Revealing Light. I smacked him a couple of times with the Servant, bounced the Swords with a Giant Trunade and replayed it, then played Jinzo, Giant Momunga and a United We Stand on the Servant. Game over. Second Match: 2-0 Me: 8000 – 7500 - 7000 - 6500 - 6000 - 5500 Him: 8000 - 9000 - 8500 - 6200 - 5700 - 2600 - 2100 - 1600 - 1100 - 600 - 100 - 0 Round #2 – Me vs. Frank Frank is a regular, and he plays some nasty, evil decks. Today he was playing some evil Yata lock-down deck, which I discovered during the first match. He smacked me early with my own Jinzo for 2400, but I managed to whittle him down until he used Sangan to get the Yata, Raigeki-ed my critters and locked me with the Yata. I knew I was in trouble after he searched with the Sangan and said with a smile "so, you don't have any cards in your hand?" Doh! First Match: 0-1 Me: 8000 – 6600 - long painful trail to 0 Him: 8000 – 5600 - 5100 - 3700 - 1400 OK, now I knew he had the bird, so I wasn't going to let him grind me out of monsters again. I got out an early Jinzo on him and then dropped the Scapegoats on his turn. He had a block, so he wasn't too concerned, until I put the United We Stand on one goat and Mage Power on another. Jinzo smacked his defense creatures and the goats did the rest. Go goats! Second Match: 1-1 Me: 8000 Him: 8000 – 7900 - 7400 - 4200 - 1700 - 0 Last match of the round and I was scared. Frank managed to keep me at bay for quite some time while chiseling away at my life points. He had that dang bird again and I knew he'd play it if I gave him the chance, so I had to play more conservatively. I don't remember the exact details, but I remember he killed my squirrels and laid into me with Sangan because I refused to kill it. I finally got out Chain Energy and shot him down with the Amazon. Third Match: 2-1 Me: 8000 - 6800 - 3400 - 4400 - 3400 - 3100 - 2600 - 2100 Him: 8000 - 4500 - 2500 - 1500 - 1000 - 700 - 0 Round #3 – Me vs. Joe I've played Joe a number of times in the past and have never had much trouble. Note to self: This is the _wrong_ attitude to take into a match. Doh! First match, I got out Chain Energy and Servant and he almost burned to death on those before I got out a squirrel to finish him off. Most of the damage I sustained was from my own Chain Energy, so I was feeling pretty good. First Match: 1-0 Me: 8000 - 7500 - 7200 - 5100 - 4600 - 4100 - 3600 - 3100 Him: 8000 – 6500 - 5800 - 5100 - 4100 - 3600 - 2600 - 2100 - 100 - 0 The second match went pretty much the same way, until he pulled a trick out of his deck that I wasn't expecting: Exodia! Joe hasn't played with Exodia in there before, so when I started smacking him down good and hard I thought I had the round won. Oops! Second Match: 1-1 Me: 8000 Him: 8000 - 7300 - 2800 The final match I knew he had Exodia in there, but my deck has some problems with Exodia (I lost to an Exodia deck last week). I laid on the smack good and hard, but he eliminated my attackers and started drawing like crazy. I drew my Morphing Jar and thought I had him. First I played Heavy Storm to get rid of any potential Backup Soldiers. My next play would have been to set the jar and then let him attack it on his turn or flip it on mine. Nope. He didn't have a Backup Soldier face down, he had a Call of the Haunted, which brought back his Sangan, which went back to the graveyard. I'm sure you can guess the rest. Doh!!! Third Match: 1-2 Me: 8000 – 7000 Him: 8000 – 4900 - 1400 So, I didn't place this week. C'est la vie. I did get a Last Turn from my pack, which was awesome, and the two packs I bought for the sealed league this week turned up a Ring of Destruction! No complaints here! :) As always, a top-notch tournament and great people to compete with. I then went up to Hasture Hobbies in Salt Lake City for their 3:30 p.m. tournament and got my trash kicked in the first round by a fish deck. Hey, he played Legendary Ocean and Tornado Wall on the first turn and put out a Legendary Fisherman to get past my Swords of Revealing Light. I wasn't aware that the fisherman could pretty much ignore all magic cards, so I got hosed quickly when I couldn't do any damage to him due to the Tornado Wall. (You take 0 damage regardless of the source when Tornado Wall is out, so I couldn't do anything. Ick!) I'll have to pack some MST instead of the Trunades next time. On the hot end, I pulled a Needle Worm from my tournament pack! Woo-hoo! So, while I did poorly today, I got some awesome cards! Next week, I'll put in the Worm and some other deck destruction cards to get rid of that nasty Exodia. :) Comments? Suggestions?
