The format is best 2-out-of-3 matches per round. Cost is $4 and every player gets a pack that they pick up after losing. The first and second place players get three packs each. Ok, now for the report: Round #1 – Me vs. Gordon Gordon had a Yata beatdown, but the Yata ran into some trouble when I placed two Chain Energy on the first turn (and I went first). I also played a Swords of Revealing Light on Turn One, but so did he, so we had an impasse until I drew (and played) Imperial Order on Turn Two along with a Servant of Catabolism. On the third turn I played a second Servant, flipped Imperial Order, and laid down the smack. He tried to retaliate, but I also had a face down Gravity Bind. First Match: 1-0 Me: 8000 - 6000 - 5300 Him: 8000 - 7000 - 6000 - 5000 - 3600 - 2600 - 1200 - 0 The second match he got out an early Summon Skull, but I had a Gravity Bind out and let him burn for a while on my Chain Energy. I finally got out an Amazon Archer and shot my two blocking critters at him (a squirrel and the serpent). I then got two Scapegoats and launched them at him for the win. Second Match: 2-0 Me: 8000 - 6700 - 6200 - 5700 Him: 8000 - 7500 - 7000 - 6500 - 6000 - 4800 - 2400 - 1900 - 0 Round #2 – Me vs. Matt Matt had a beatdown with Summon Skull and Yata. He started out with an early Dark Hole + Heavy Storm followed by a smack with the bird. I got out a block, but then he got the skull out. I had to nuke it with my Ring of Destruction and then lay into him with a servant pumped up with United We Stand. This knocked him down to 900 and then I played a Chain Energy. He got to play one more card, but it wasn't enough to stop the servant. First Match: 1-0 Me: 8000 - 7800 - 5300 - 3000 Him: 8000 - 5700 - 3400 - 900 - 200 - 0 The second match I opened up with a first turn Harpies Feather Duster + Dark Hole and laid into him (I don't recall with what right off the top of my head). He kept drawing tribute monsters and I was able to kill him with attacks from my archer and, finally, a tribute shelling from some goats. Second Match: 2-0 Me: 8000 Him: 8000 - 5100 - 4600 - 3200 - 800 - 0 Round #3 – Me vs. Randy Randy plays a Yata deck with what he affectionately refers to as his Fairy Little Beatstick. He also packs Airknights and Geminis. First match, I drew a handful of monsters which he blew through with his Spear Dragon. I didn't draw any defense and he cruised through me in four turns with his beatstick, Airknight and Elf. I got out some squirrels, but they were mere speedbumps for the Airknight. First Match: 0-1 Me: 8000 - 6100 - 6300 - 0 Him: 8000 Well, Randy hadn't even broken a sweat during the first match, but in the second I got out an early Chain Energy and a Gravity Bind. He burned for a while before I got out something to beat his with. He did speedbump another of my squirrels, but they made him pay after I drew my Raigeki. Second Match: 1-1 Me: 8000 - 7500 - 6700 - 6200 - 5700 - 5200 - 4700 Him: 8000 - 7500 - 7000 - 6500 - 6000 - 5500 - 3600 - 3200 - 1700 - 900 - 0 The final match went really quick. I drew a hand full of monsters, only one of which was big enough to be a threat. He went first and set a trap while playing an Elf. I drew a Chain Energy on my first turn, played a Goblin Attack Force and put the Chain into play. I didn't attack as I wanted the Goblin as a block. Well, he Raigekied the GAF, smoked the Chain with a Heavy Storm, and then played Yata. I didn't have anything big enough to stop the Elf and I couldn't draw. Game over on turn two. Yikes! Third Match: 1-2 Me: 8000 - 5900 - Long, painful ride to 0 from his Yata. Him: 8000 So, I didn't place again this week. I did get a Fiber Jar from my pack, so I can't complain too loudly. :) At least I didn't lose to Exodia again. As always, a top-notch tournament and great people to compete with. Comments?
