For Throwback Thursday today, we look back at a card that is very useful in today's meta, and that is Mask of Restrict.

Mask of Restrict prevents both players from tributing cards. That's it! This is a powerful floodgate against any Tribute Summon heavy deck. Back in 2016, Monarchs were one of the top decks in the format, and this card saw a massive amount of play. Now in 2017, True Dracos are running around, and guess what? This card is seeing play. Preventing a Master Peace from hitting the board is strong. If you are playing a deck at a big event and you aren't playing True Dracos, meaning you are likely playing Pure Zoo, then this is a must for your side deck.

Advanced Rating: 4.5/5

Baneful
Upon release, it was a weak card because players would only tribute once or twice.  In Goat Format, it precluded Metamorphosis, which also meant you couldn't use it yourself.  It had some viability in the side deck when Monarchs rose in 06-07.  I do remember some people siding it when Hieratics were a high tier deck.

The problem with this card is that its a floodgate that does not apply any immediate pressure.  It also doesn't remove any of the opponent's cards; when Mask of Restrict is destroyed, they can start using their tribute cards again.

I often cite this card as an example of specialist vs generalist side decking.  Siding 3 of them is a waste against most matchups.  Even if you side them in, there is still a chance you will not draw them or draw them too late.

Its good in formats with decks solely reliant on tributing AND only in the case it is a matchup that needs special attention.

2/5
