Santa Claws

Merry Christmas everybody! Now let’s celebrate this card that the Japanese appreciated much more than the rest of the world did. For a brief period of time, Santa Claws saw play in the OCG as a side deck possibility in lieu of better options (like the Kaiju monsters TCG had for much longer). Getting rid of Cyber Dragon Infinity, Chaos Max or ABC was worth allowing the potential draw and net minus 2 for a lot of players. But now Japan has the Kaijus… so there’s no more reason for this card to ever see the light of day again. Though, if I suspect correctly, I have a feeling the card of the day staff might see this once again someday… right around Christmas 2023.

Santa Claws

Merry Christmas.  So, I guess this card is a more versatile version of Lava Golem.  It doesn't clog up your summoning, it doesn't give the opponent a strong beater (though 2500 DEF is high)  and it doesn't require the opponent have two monsters.

On the other hand, this card doesn't get rid of two monsters for one card, doesn't inflict burn damage, and instead of hurting the opponent for holding onto it, it gives the opponent a +1 each turn (on top of you losing a card, the opponent losing a card and the opponent gaining a card).  You would have to waste removal to stop the opponent from drawing.  However you look at it, it's a -1 or -2.

People only mildly thought about this card when Apoqliphort towers was a large threat.  But with that gone, there's no reason to use this now.

1/5  (Worth less than coal)

Hello Pojo Fans,

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! The spirit is in high effect on pojo with a review of a card we selected purely for the season: Santa Claws.

Get rid of one of your opponents monsters while giving them a wall of sorts. If you can get over the 2400 DEF this turn then giving them this monster benefited them zero. On top of that you will be getting a free draw at the end of your turn as long as the summon goes through. Even if you can't get past Santa, its weak ATK doesn't help the opponent much. Make sure they don't do any synchroing or you could be in trouble as Mr. Claws is a Level 6.

Get rid of a monster of your opponents, get a free draw at the end of the turn, and potentially destroy Santa Claws to take away the monster you gave them. Truly giving.

With the Kaiju conspiracy we might have forgotten about demi clause over here. Santa Claws is a Level 6 Light Fiend-type monster with 1200 Atk and 2500 Def. The main reason to use this over Kaiju's is with Creature Swap. This monster and Kaiju's require one Tribute of an opponent's monster to Special Summon to their side. Santa Claws has to stay in Def mode, but it gives the opponent a Draw during the End Phase.  A gift. Lose a monster here's a card. With Creature Swap or something like Remove Brainwashing, Santa Claws will return to your side and give you a Draw during the End Phase. Yugi Wiki told me something I didn't know. The stats are awesome because 1200 Atk and 2500 Def can be shortened to 12/25. This year 12/25 is on a Sunday, so enjoy the holiday time off.

Score: 5/5 All hail Santan...

Santa Claws, what a delicious pun.  So our Christmas themed friend has 1200 attack and 2500 defense (12-25 the date of Christmas, still delicious) level 6, and a Light attributed Fiend.  Not much going on with this card, it's pretty simple.  It has a unique ability to Special Summon to the opponent's Field (from your Hand) in defense position, by Tributing one of their Monsters.  Then, you get to Draw a card during your End Phase.  So, that's a breakeven.  You lose a card from your Hand, but Draw...your opponent loses a Monster and gets this.  Everybody breaks even.  There are better and easier ways to get a card without giving your opponent a Monster, but ridding an opponent of something fierce or powerful and giving them this, isn't so bad.

Rating:  2.75/5  Art, and the season factor into this heavily (realistically probably a 2/5)

Art:  5/5  Very creepy, but still fun
