Monday

Welcome to my XYZ week! We open this week with a card I'm fairly surprised we didn't review during Cyber Dragon support week a little bit ago, in Cyber Dragon Nova. Nova is a Rank 5, Light attributed, Machine type XYZ Monster, with 2100 attack and 1600 defense. That does sound familiar, no? Light and Machine are great, obviously, and this guy is fairly splashable. You really need to run Machines (not Cyber Dragon per say) to take full advantage of this card, however. You only need two Level 5 Machines for this XYZ Summon, so it isn't difficult to accomplish. Once a turn by discarding an XYZ Material, you can target a Cyber Dragon in your Graveyard and Special Summon it. So that's useful, another Monster is good, and can speed up an Extra Deck Summon. You can also remove a Cyber Dragon from your Hand or face-up from your Field from play to have this card gain 2100 attack. Only until the End Phase, but that's still 4200 attack total for a turn. If this card is destroyed by your opponent's card effect and sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon a Machine Type Fusion Monster from the Extra Deck. Also a very welcome bonus to a solid card. I'd play a couple in your Machine Deck.

Cyber Dragon Nova
LIGHT/Machine/Xyz/Effect/Rank 5/2100/1600
2 Level 5 Machine-Type monsters

Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can banish 1 "Cyber Dragon" from your hand or face-up from your Monster Card Zone; this card gains 2100 ATK until the End Phase. Starting off this week, we have Cyber Dragon Nova, the main boss monster form the Cyber Dragon Structure Deck. Statwise it isn’t great, for 2 Level 5 Machines say 2 Cyber Dragons you get a Rank 5 monster with the same stats as a Cyber Dragon. No matter what way you look at it, giving up 2 monsters to have the same stats as possible 1 of the monsters used is really bad.

So, Statwise is great but what about the effects. The first effect allows you to Detach 1 Xyz material to special summon 1 “Cyber Dragon” from your Graveyard, since a lot of cards become Cyber Dragon on the field or in the Graveyard, this means you shouldn’t be stuck for monsters.

The second effect nicely leads on from the first effect, which is a really nice touch. It is also a Quick effect which makes it better, and by banishing a Cyber Dragon from your hand or Field, this card gains 2100 ATK until the end phase. This is a really good ATK boost which helps improve the bad Original ATK and can be done when the opponent least expects it.

The final effect allows you to special summon 1 Machine Fusion from your Extra Deck if this card is sent to the graveyard by your opponent’s card effect. Since Cyber Dragon decks love their fusions there is plenty of choice, but remember this special summon isn’t treated as a Fusion Summon, still at least it allows you to still have a monster on the field.

Overall, a solid Boss Monster, if this had better Original Stats it would be a whole lot better, still this will see play in Cyber Dragon Decks.

Cyberplum

Happy Monday everyone! My vacation's over, so I'm back for more exciting reviews. We start the week with Cyber Dragon Nova, the cover card for the recent Cyber Dragon structure deck.

Cyber Dragon Nova is a rank 5 XYZ monster, requiring two Machines to make. He has a multitude of effects; you can detach a material to summon a Cyber Dragon from your grave, which will both allow you to use the various Cyber Dragon monster's effects, and set up for his second effect: Banish a Cyber Dragon from hand or grave to double his attack. That's not bad, considering you might give up a lowly core or Proto dragon to make that happen. Finally, should he be destroyed by an opposing card effect (a likelihood, since destroying it in battle will be difficult), you get to summon a Machine-type fusion monster.

Now think of the possibilities here. On top of the host of Cyber Dragon Fusion monsters, you also have access to beatsticks like Barbaroid, Super Vehicroid Stealth Union, or Gatling Dragon. With this vast array of abilities, Cyber Dragon Nova is a great addition to the potent Cyber Dragon deck, and while there are of course other Rank-5 options available to you, this should definitely be included.

Cyber Dragon Nova

Welcome to XYZ week! Featuring 1 amazingly good card and 4 amazingly bad cards.

Cyber Dragon Nova is an amazing card that totally makes the Cyber Dragon archetype worth using? Is it broken, yeah, but it does need its own deck to function.

#1 , It's easy to summon. Finding LV5 material should be easy with cards like Sonic Wind Jammer, Chronomaly Golden Jet, Cyber Dragon Drei and the original Cyber Dragon itself.

#2 , You can Special Summon a Cyber Dragon from the graveyard, instantly giving you a +1 and a 2100 beater for aggro. Combine this with Limiter removal and you have 8400 ATK power right away.

#3 , Banishing a Cyber Dragon from your hand for this card to gain 2100 is a little situational, but when you do use it, this card can run over any monster and has serious OTK potential

#4 , It's 3rd effect is the most important. It can replace itself with Cyber Twin Dragon or Cyber End Dragon that both respectively deal a lot of damage. If this card is destroyed in battle or removed from the field without being destroyed (like Compulsory Evacuation Device) it does not get it's effect, but you can still pressure your opponent into using removal anyway.

Traditional Format has strict standards but this card could still help a machine otk in that format. In Advanced Format, you must use this in every Cyber Dragon deck. Heck, ANY deck that can realistically summon this should just slap in a Cyber Twin and use this.

Traditional – 2.5 (Okay)
Advanced – 5.0 (Perfect)

Terrorking

Ladies, gentlemen, rejoice. Rejoice because I am once again here. It feels like it has been 10 days since I last graced you with my insight. Ha-ha. I'm not counting the days or anything, but I know to you it must feel like an eternity. Worry not, I shan't leave you again... until I do.

Cyber Dragon Nova is a good card. It's a good card for Cyber Dragons. I remember talking about it when reviewing Cyber Dragon Core. With its (Core's) ability to be used with Machine Duplication, getting multiple Cyber Dragons out to make this or a fusion is a simple task. But I'd be remiss if I didn't tell you, my dear guppies, that this doesn't require Cyber Dragon as its Xyz Material, so I will tell you that it doesn't require Cyber Dragon as its Xyz Material. It doesn't require Cyber Dragon as its Xyz Material. You can use things like Solar Wind Jammer, or Quick Draw Synchron (no, I don't know why you'd be using that card in this deck) to help make this beast.

Oh, I suppose I also need to tell you how to make best use of Nova in addition to how easily you can make him. Huh.

"Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 "Cyber Dragon" in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can banish 1 "Cyber Dragon" from your hand or face-up from your Monster Card Zone; this card gains 2100 ATK until the End Phase. If this card in your possession is sent to your Graveyard by your opponent's card effect: You can Special Summon 1 Machine-Type Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck."

If you know how to turn a monster to Defense Position, reading that card should automagically tell you what you need to do. Automagically.

Traditional (this is totally a real format, btw!): 1.5/5
Advanced: 3.5/5
