Our last card here on this short week before Thanksgiving is Xyz gift. It's the gift that is supposed to keep giving, but let's find out if it is worth getting in the first place. Xyz Gift says that if you control 2 or more Xyz monsters, you can detech 2 Xyz materials from a monster to draw 2 cards. This cards will make you wonder what is more important, your Xyz materials for your Xyz monster's effect or use to draw 2 cards. I would say it is a very handy card, given the right situation. But by the time you have this all set up....is it worth using at that point? Unless you are behind and need those few precious cards, you might not even need to draw. Be wary when using this card, you might need whatever effect from the Xyz monster you are detaching from later, still it's decent draw power.

A gift this early? Why thank you! Today’s card is Xyz Gift!

Fairly simple card today; if you control two face-up Xyz monsters, then you can detach two Xyz materials and draw two cards. I’ll stop you now before, “But we need those for stuff!”. Well, under most conditions, you do need them.

When Gem-Knight Pearl is released sometime next year, you’ll have access to a high attack, non-effect monster with Xyz materials. So Pearl will be a good choice to compensate for this card’s cost. You can also use an opponent’s Xyz monster as the second monster. You take control of it by using cards such as Mind Control and Enemy Controller and then use their materials for the effect.

Still, this card is a little too situational for my tastes. The detachment is actually part of the effect (instead of as a cost), but I can’t think of any situations that’d you want to use this card in, other then those above. Still, I bet it looks nice in Ultimate. Have a nice weekend everyone!

Traditional: 1/5 (if you’re not winning on the first turn, then this won’t help)
Advanced: 1.5/5 (for right now, it’ll be about 2.5/5 when Pearl is released)
Art: 2.5/5 (I like Space Gift more)

XYZ Gift

A present! For me? Why Konami, you shouldn’t ha….. hey… You need 2 xyz monsters to activate this?! These were the exact thoughts that crossed my mind at my local sneak peak for photon shockwave. This card falls very short of being splashable, also considering you have to detach TWO xyz material monsters from ONE xyz monster you control… If it was two in total from a combination of the two it wouldn’t see so bad. I would not want to make a Utopia and get rid of the two possible attack negations to draw two cards. If you really want to run this card, your best bet is milling it off in a Diamond Dude Turbo deck for the “Pot of Greed” effect.

Traditional: 1/5
Advanced: 2/5

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone! Thank you to you all! “See” you all next week!

and to finish off the short week we have Xyz Gift:

If you control 2 or more face-up Xyz Monsters: Detach 2 Xyz Materials from a monster you control and draw 2 cards.

What we have here is some horrible support for Xyz monsters, only time I see someone using this, is if you gain control of their monster, I would completely pass on this one.

Wednesday:

XYZ Gift
Normal Spell
"If you control 2 or more face-up Xyz Monsters: Detach 2 Xyz Materials from a monster you control and draw 2 cards."

This card is the only really useful one of this short holiday week. XYZ monsters seem fairly playable to me and if you're stuck, this card can give you more options. Sadly, some XYZ monsters die when they lose all their material monsters, so this card should only be used if your XYZ monster can survive without material, or you're desperate to get the right cards from your deck. I still wouldn't run him as the effort involved in bringing out the black framed guy just to draw 2 cards seems a little one-sided.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We'll be back next week with more reviews.

Wednesday

Xyz Gift closes this short week, before the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Xyz Gift is another of those "Draw two cards under x condition(s) cards" and such cards are always worth taking a look at, if only because they say "Draw two cards."  Here, if you control two or more face-up XYZ Monsters, by detaching two XYZ Material cards from one of them, you can then Draw two cards.  This isn't all that good, it's a -1, to start.  The card itself, plus the two discarded material Monsters.  Last I knew, we generally discarded those Monsters for effects, not to draw cards.  Not to say this is a bad card, but the XYZ player should have something to Draw two cards that isn't so costly.
