Dark Paladin

Grapple Blocker opens our week, and this card falls into the category of "Nice idea, Terrible execution." Anyway, this is a Level 4 Earth Psychic-type monster with 1200 attack and 2000 defense.

Grapple Blocker, when Normal Summoned, allows you to select an opponent's monster on the Field. The selected monster cannot attack or be tributed, but it can change it's Battle Position, which seems worth noting.

During each of your End Phases, you have to pay 500 Lifepoints, or you destroy this card. Now, this does seem like something that actually could work in a tight spot, but it just isn't good enough, or quick enough. The Format is too quick for this card.

If this could be centralized into a Magic Card or a Trap Card, then me might have something awesome, but until then, just keep this in the trade binder. I wouldn't even play it as a Psychic to Synchro Summon something else.

Grapple Blocker

I honestly had no idea that this card even existed until I pulled it in the box I got. Well, there is a good reason that he has flown under the radar of the competitive player. It is not very good. Low ATK and a mediocre DEF stat are not good reasons to play a card. In fact, Mind Protector has 200 more DEF, is a DARk monster and has better effects.

There is simply no competitive reason to play this card. Even in an all Psychic deck, I would use many other cards than this, and even then I wouldn't. Harsh, but true.

Grapple Blocker locks down one monster from doing anything except for switching positions. This only works when it is normal summoned and that isn't good since there are usually other monsters on the field. Its 1200 ATK can't stand against many monster in this format. Also the life point cost doesn't help this card either, but pretty much all Psychic have that theme. People often can get around Grapple Blocker's effect by Synchro Summoning or using effects.
