Dark Paladin

Tuesday

Today we look at Golden Ladybug, a counterpart to Skull Marked Ladybug.

Skull Marked Ladybug increases your Lifepoints by 1000 when sent to the Graveyard.  This card, however, increases your Lifepoints by 500 if you show it to your opponent.

On the plus side, you can use this effect, once a turn, as long as it remains in your Hand.  It then stays revealed in your Hand, however, after you show it to your opponent until the End of your turn.

Honestly, the effect isn't terrible.  I have always thought that Lifepoint gain is an underrated tactic in Yugioh, but I don't think a mere 500 points is enough to warrant playing this card.  However, it sure has a place in your Fire Princess burn/stall Deck.

Well, Insects just got even more support that they didn't need. During the standby phase you can reveal our little bug for a lifepoint gain of 500. It's stats are equally as unimpressive, with an ATK and DEF of 0, it is not likely that this little guy will be winning any battles anytime soon. It is also a LIGHT Insect, which it only shares with Magical Merchant.

All in all, lifegain is one of the weakest mechanics in the game, with only Nimble Momonga being played in recent times and he got you field presence as well. Our Ladybug isn't even a good set, with most every card in the game beating it in battle except for things like Yubel and Tousand Eyes Idol.

In short, this is just another junk rare that has almost no use.

This is a really iffy card. It's a free 500, and each turn, that can really add up in the long run and help you win games, and especially in time situations, you're going to have that extra 1000. But other than that, it's not the greatest card. 0/0 Insect, doesn't really do much if you really look at it. Other than drawing it, or getting it in your hand with Sangan, there's no really good way of getting this guy into your hand to put him to good use. It would be nice in a deck that discards a bit, with Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, Snipe Hunter or something. Regardless, it's not going to be worth that one spot (hopefully you don't want to use more than one of these as a splashy/techy card) when there are so many other options out there that can easily be used for a better card. Yeah, I should be the one to talk when i put Gate Guardian in my side deck at Shonen Jump Champsionship San Jose, but it was all in the fun of the game that I did that, not like I sided it in, but you can at least put this card into some use, a free 500 and a pretty much automatically killed wall. Or you can be nice and give it your opponent through creature swap and let them feel the pain of this card twice, you gain and they lose. You can combo around it like that, but other than that, it's only 500 lifepoints, i just don't see it being worth it overall.

Traditional: 1.5, It gets an extra .5 because it's a Light monster.
Advanced: 1/5, Just not worth it overall, i'll pick D.D. Crow over this anyday, and at least D.D. Crow can end games faster than Golden Ladybug and it has 100 ATK
David "BobDole" Hoffman Golden Ladybug

Well well, this card is certainly interesting.

Normally I'd view a monster with 0/0 stats and no effect that alters that to be junk. Most people just aren't interested in something that has no field presence. However, the point of this card is to not be on the field. Ever.

Basically what this means is that this card is only going to be really effective in a stall based deck. Otherwise you have a basically dead card in hand and I assure you - your opponant can do a lot more than 500 damage in a turn.

So if you're running a stall burn and you're afraid your opponant's going to eventually slip by, consider this just because. Or if you run multiple copies of Autonomous Action Unit/My Body as a Shield.

Traditional: 1.5/5 Yea, it may be a light, but it's going to get trashed.
Advanced: 2/5 Like I said, stall burn with some LP gain thrown in.

The card up for review today is Golden Ladybug. As the week progresses, the cards get better, so thatʼs a plus lol. But now onto the card. Its stats are pretty bad, as well as the type. Once again, sorry for the small review, but the only way I see this being used, is if u side it in while in time and win that way.

500 point life gain is decent and the card remains in your hand.  Fire Princess Burn gets a slight boost from this card, but when was the last time you saw that decktype.  Again, not much good to say about this card.

Honestly, in my opinion, this card fails miserably on so many levels.

Playability; I see no reason to include this in any deck. Even in a fun lifegain deck, there are much better options. Likewise, even in an insect variant, there is no real reason to use this card. It's searchable - and that's the only point I can really give this card.

Score - 1/10

Plus; This card will not net you any advantage. This card will actually cost you in the long run because not only would it be a dead card in hand, your opponent will know that you have a dead card in hand and will therefore be able to act accordingly. Seriously, how much good is 500LP going to do you if your opponent will feel safe over-committing to the field because they know that at least one card in your hand isn't an answer.

Score - 0/20

Power; Not only is the 500LP that this card grants you negligable, the card won't even be able to kill a treeborn frog. What's worse, it's not able to be discarded for any of the major draw cards, it can't be tributed for crush, and gives your opponent information. Unless I am completely oblivious to some random combo that makes this thing broken, I really don't understand why this card was even made.

Score - 2/20

Overall - Advanced; .3/5... Sorry... 1/5

Traditional; 1/5

Ooooo.... kaaay..... I swear. There are better cards later in the week....

.....

....

Oh yeah, I have to do this, don't I?

Let's look at the upsides, shall we? You can remove from game him to special summon doom dozer.... if you drew 3 of him it's a lot harder to OTK you since you'll gain 1500 a turn... erm.... uhm....

Downsides - He's a 100/100 bug. He only gains you 500 a turn. He opens you up to mind crush. Good opponents will follow him in your hand and discard other cards with their spirit reaper. He does almost nothing at all....

I heard his big brother, 4 star lady bug of Doom, picks on him....

Advanced - 1.1/5 (Simply because it can be better than some of the other cards)
Traditonal - 1.5/5 - hey, it's a light!

Golden ladybug is splashable. That surprises me. It's a HUGE boon to fire princess and mars decks as it gains life continually without taking up a slot for spells and such.

5zillion/5 in a lp ^ deck both formats.

4/5 other. both formats.
