Summoner of Illusions

...when people tell me they don't have Cyber-Stein and that they're going to substitute this in its place, I cry. I weep for the future of Yu-Gi-Oh.

First, you have to manually flip the Summoner yourself -- if it gets attacked, it ain't working out in your favor. Second, you have to tribute ANOTHER monster -- NOT the Summoner, to bring out the Fusion in question. And finally, that Fusion is getting destroyed at the end of the turn, so unless you Book/Tsuku/otherwise protect it, you better do what you need to do with that Fusion monster in one turn.

Having said that, I hope every newbie reading this that was playing this card gets enough sense to stop playing it and get a Cyber-Stein (unless UDE manages to get it banned.)

1/5 all

Dark Paladin
Today we look at Summoner of Illusions, and I'll say right now, I don't like this card. Instead of paying a dreaded 5000 lifepoints with Cyber Stein, here, you just tribute a monster (excluding Summoner of
Illusions)

However, if you don't win this turn, the monster is destroyed at the End Phase of the turn. You could use Dimensionhole to save the Fusion monster for further use, but then you're dedicated more resources than you should just for a Fusion monster.

Summoner of Illusions really isn't a tech card, it really needs its own deck to function properly.

Ratings:

2/5 all around, but a 3.5/5 in its own deck

Art: 2.5/5

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

Summoner of Illusions:
Alright, Stein doesn't carry the deck on his own.

Summoner does the same job as Stein; he just charges more. It might not seem a greater cost, but Summoner is much more difficult to use. You have to:
a) have Summoner face-down during your own turn;
b) have Summoner able to be Flip-Summoned;
c) have another monster;
d) be able to win in one attack that won't be stopped.

Hence, the card draw is less likely. This is why this particular OTK wasn't seen earlier (and partially due to a lack of really really good fusions).

Summoner of Illusions
FLIP: Tribute 1 monster on your side of the field (excluding this monster). Special Summon 1 Fusion Monster Card from your Fusion Deck. The Fusion Monster is destroyed at the end of the turn this effect is activated.

What a neat card.

When I was in Tennessee for Hurricane Katrina, I went up to a local Card Shop one day, because I got sick of sitting at home with no friends locally and just my PC/TV/Phone. While I was up there, I met a few people who would become good friends, and one of them was Remington, who was probably the best player at the card shop. Just before I left, he started using this card and it was working pretty nicely. I picked this for my buddy Remington :P.

The effect is pretty interesting. The monster summoned has Magical Scientist type treatment, in the way the monster returns to the fusion deck at the end of the turn, but two things are different here.

1.) The monster can be more than Level 6! This means Cyber End Dragon, Cyber Twin Dragon, and even Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon are ALL legal targets!
2.) The monster can attack directly 0_o.

The card is balanced because the payment isn't life points, its the thing that actually matters: Cards. Tributing Goats is legal, and this card combos with Snatch Steal and Brain Control pretty well, too. I may test this card, I really like the idea of it. Tech Cyber Stein is obviously good, so why can't this card be? If you can support it in (small) ways, such as running Swords of Revealing Light, you can EASILY get the effect off, and it may be GG when you do.

Of course, you can also Metamorphosis to KEEP the monster for good, but its not as good as when you did it with Magical Scientist, as you lose resources here ;/. It IS a flip effect monsters though, so it combos with Night Assailant for discard fodder, and its LIGHT to support Chaos Sorcerer, the best card out right now ;D.

Traditional: No idea, cant be too good though ;).
Advanced: 2/5. Good, but needs you to support it otherwise it will NOT work.

Summoner of Illusions :

Essentially, this card is a less costed, more difficult to pull off, Cyber Stein, for a turn. Not sounding too great at the moment, but lets see if it can redeem itself.

The effect is pretty simple, sacrifice an other monster when this flip effect activates and you can special summon a fusion monster this turn. Not that bad, trading in a Scapegoat token for a Cyber Twin dragon, lets face it, it could be worse.

The way it could be worst is being forced to sacrifice a Spirit Reaper during their battle phase because they attacked your face down Summoner, but how often does that come up? Its not like you will intentionally lets that happen.

Summoner of Illusions is light, which works to its favour. If you can pull it off, it could act as a reserve Stein, which isn’t bad I guess.
