Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Chaos Sorcerer
Common

Spellcaster / Effect Monster
This card can only be Special Summoned by removing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster in your Graveyard from play. Once during each of your turns, you can remove 1 face-up monster on the field from play. If you activate this effect, this card cannot attack during this turn.

Type - Dark / 6 / 2300 / 2000
Card Number
- IOC-023

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale 1 being
the worst.  3 ... average.  5 is the highest rating

Date Reviewed - 5.07.04

dawnyoshi I'm amazed that some people think this card sucks. It's easy to summon, its attack is pretty good, just falling short of Jinzo, and its effect kills off monsters like Jinzo, a face-up witch, basically anything that might try to threaten it. It's also common, making it easy for anyone to pick up. He's also, like Envoy of the Beginning, great sacrificial bait for Great Maju Garzett. Imagine removing the opponent's Jinzo, then sacrificing Chaos Sorcerer to bring out Great Maju, dealing them 4600 damage through battle. Not bad.

Constructed: 3.5/5

Limited: 2/5

I'm sure some will look at this and say "WHAT? HE'S GOOD THOUGH!". He is, but in limited, with only IOC packs, you'll find that getting any decent light or dark monsters along with Chaos Sorceror may prove to be difficult.
ExMinion OfDarkness Friday:
Chaos Sorcerer

Black Luster Soldier -- Envoy of the Beginning had a little brother that was malformed, malnourished, and retarded. And here he is.

This card is mainly going to be used by those who can't get Black Luster Soldier but run Light and Dark monsters already. For the same requirements as the 3,000 ATK twice or remove monster, you get the chance to remove, 700 less attack, and it can't attack twice.

But in retrospect, this card isn't all that bad. It's special summonable, it takes out everything normally played except Jinzo and Ha Des, and it can remove those two if it needs to. Either way, I still don't see a reason to play multiples, because people usually didn't play more than 3 Chaos monsters when they weren't restricted due to how hard the summoning was without a Painful Choice in the opening draw.

Just as we have the poor man's Beatdown, consisting of Giant Orcs, and Normal Rare 4-star 1900 attackers, we have the poor man's Chaos deck, with this as its centerpiece.

3/5
Tranorix Friday: Chaos Sorcerer

The forgotten Chaos monster! Well, forgotten or budget, whichever sounds better. Anyway, today's card is the often overlooked Chaos Sorcerer. Overlooked why, you ask? Quite simple...it's not as good as the other Chaos monsters, so people tend not even to notice it exists. Tsk tsk.

Remove one LIGHT; remove one DARK. Everyone should know which LIGHTS and DARKS are good to run by now; if not, just check out other reviews. Basically, it's a very cheap summon. The stats aren't half bad either; 2300 for a Special Summon is nothing to laugh at.

Then we have his effect. He can remove a face up monster on the field from play. What's not to like about that? Is that Jinzo pestering you? Special Summon this guy and your problems are solved. Get rid of Witches, Sangans, and all that other nonsense. Or just slap your opponent for a hefty 2300 damage, over 1/4 his Life Points.

Why don't people play this? There isn't room. With only so many reliable ways to get LIGHTS and DARKS in the Graveyard, people can barely accommodate Black Luster Soldier – EotB and Chaos Emperor Dragon – EotE. If not for them, Chaos Sorcerer would see much more play. And for that reason I'm not basing my score on this card’s inferiority to the other Chaos monsters, but rather on its own potential.

Typical tournament deck: 3.5/5
Dedicated Chaos deck: 4/5
OVERALL RATING: 3.8/5
