Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Reflect Bounder

Card Number - DCR-012

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating

Date Reviewed - 1.27.04

wartortle32 Reflect Bounder

When this face-up Attack Position card is attacked by a monster on your opponent's side of the field, before damage calculation is resolved in the Damage Step, this card inflicts damage to your opponent's Life Points equal to the ATK of line attacking monster. Then, after damage calculation is resolved, this card is destroyed.

While the upside of this card is great, acting like a Magic Cylinder, there are a few downsides of this card that will make you think twice before using this. First off, the effect is optional, so if it gets attacked by something like Sinister Serpent, the Reflect Bounder will be destroyed after it's effect is used unless you negate the attack. Secondly, it has to be in face up attack mode in order to use the attack, so you cant exactly spring the effect on the opponent as a surprise. It allows the opponent to use something else to destroy this monster instead of attacking it, preventing its effect from activating.

I'd give this card a 2.5/5. The effect is good, but don't expect to be able to use it too often to your advantage.

Level 4 Machine 1700/1500

Pros:
+Burn Effect
+Machine
+Level 4 1700 ;P
+Searchable…
+great defense

Cons:
-dies after using the effect
-lacks offense

Combos:
*Limited Removal. This alone gives burn decks a chance. So they try to kill you reflect with a Gemini? Throw out a Limiter Removal, and they take 1900, and an ADDITIONAL 1500 as the Gemini runs into a 3400 attack monster. ALSO, the reflect bounder would die due to its effect ANYWAY, so limiter seemingly has no drawback. So for those of you counting, this 1700 puny compared to Gemini just made the controller of the Elf take 3400 Life Points. Just to destroy one machine. Amazing.

Throw this in a burn deck for a twist. Add ring/cylinder and some other LP damaging cards and you’re good. Heck, throw in some more limiters and some machines like cannon soldiers and you’ve got dual-purpose mons (cannons can attack with limiters and can also launch for burn damage). Toss in scapegoats, Jinzo. Stir. GG.

It’s that simple, although I do not personally use Reflect Bounder, as there are clearly ways of avoiding it, it is still a very good card, especially at what it does - damage your opponent’s LP.

That’s pretty much it. I guess you could just as easily toss this into any deck and it wouldn’t be half bad. I mean, either way you look at it, this card is solid. Still, it has the better efficacy if used in a deck that it prospers in, like Machine or Burn. GL and have fun using it.

Oh and like I said, it can be played around…your opponent can run a witch or sangan into this, take a little damage, but then get the effect while STILL killing the Reflect itself. And also, all forms of monster removal can eliminate this card before it ever gets its effect off. Oh well.

Ratings:
Constructed - 3.6/5
Limited - 4.2/5 Grab this. It’s amazing, a solid attacker, GREAT effect, and overall a good pick.
infinitekhaos Reflect Bounder (Light/Machine/Effect/1700/cant recall the defense) When this face-up Attack Position card is attacked by a monster on your opponent's side of the field, before damage calculation is resolved in the Damage Step, this card inflicts damage to your opponent's Life Points equal to the ATK of the attacking monster. Then, after damage calculation is resolved, this card is destroyed.

One card we all saw Espa Roba use on Joey/Jounochi. This card isn't great, but its not bad either. Its good late game, especially when both you and your opponent are both low on life, he declares an attack, and you can use call on your reflect bounder. Now the one thing i dont like about Reflect Bounder is that he is destroyed regardless. So if your opponent crashes his tomato into it, he'll just swallow the 1400, get his search, and pick away your lp and your hand with don zaloog/spirit reaper. I would suggest using this card against scientist decks, as when you get them below 7100, they need to attack and cause damage. So reflect would still keep their lp low enough that they cant pull off the Catapult OTKO. To clarify, if Reflect is attacked with Injection, your opponent would only take 400, as with all other cards, reflects effect does not take place in the damage step.

Tourney - 3.0/5 - nothing special

Draft - 3.2/5 - good but its fissure bait

Artwork - 4.8/5 - awesome artwork

Closing Line - attack me with blue eyes do you? REFLECT BOUNDER...BOUNCE IT BACK!! (yes.. I know that was a very n00bified closing line)
