DuelMonster Tuesday - Secret Passage To The Treasure

PGD-037 Common
Magic Card:
Select 1 face-up monster with an ATK equal to 1000 points or less on your side of the field. During the turn this card is activated, the selected monster can attack your opponent’s Life Points directly.

Being able to attack LP directly when your opponent has monsters on the field is always a sweet plus, but there aren't too many monsters with an atk of 1000 or less worth using this on. The best ones I can think to use with this card would be:

Hayabusa Knight which would end up being 2000 direct damage, Masked Sorcerer and White Magical Hat to draw and force your opponent to discard, Dark Scorpion Burglars to destroy a magic card from their deck, Lily to get a whopping 3400 direct damage attack in, and best yet, you can almost insure Yata to inflict damage to start a lock unless of course they have Kuriboh or a trap ready.

SPttT makes more monsters into weenie rushers like Jinzo #7 and his pals, so you can build a theme around using them with White Magical Hat, Hayabusa Knight and this card to make a very effective attack team. Not to mention some other cards that came out that can help the weenie team like Jowls of Dark Demise, Mucus Yolk, Nightmare Horse, Gravekeeper’s Vassal, and Servant of Catabolism. So it might be worth trying out, at least for fun.

You still have to watch out for Mirror Force and Magic Cylinder because even though SPttT lets a monster attack directly, it's still attacking so it can trigger traps.

Ratings:

Tourney: 3.0
ArtWork: 1.0 - The picture and title don't really mach the effect too much, but it looks like they might run into the Barrel Behind The Door if they aren't too careful.
Pegasus Secret Passage to the Treasures, 7/29/03:

The really bad thing about this card is that it's a normal magic. If it was continuous it'd be sweet combined with gravity bind and WMH. As it is, this is only good for 1 shot, so it's not a card I'd recommend. Unless you absolutely, critically need to discard that last card in your opponent's hand to set up a yata-lock, don't use this card. If you find yourself in that situation, just add more discard cards to your deck.

Another use for this card would be to use it on a Hayabusa for a quick 2000 points of damage.

My main question about this card is whether its effect still applies if the monster's attack is later changed... example: you use it on a hayabusa, then equip UWS to it (with some goat tokens out) and attack directly twice for the win. :) That'd be sweet if it did work. With an Axe of Despair you could do 4000 damage to your opponent with just three cards, all of which are unrestricted. I'm just crossing my fingers here until Upperdeck updates its PDF.

Welcome back, this is another card I like, in fact it intrigued me enough to try a deck around, the deck has received little play, but has done fairly well. There are enough 1000- attackers with good effects to make this an interesting card; some I like include White Magical Hat, Dark Scorpion Gang, Hayabusa Knight, Injection Fairy Lily, and Yata. The deck I run includes bind and messenger of peace to protect, and with Hayabusa Knight to do damage, WMH to disrupt hand, and a Dark (what do they have against the word Black anyway?) Scorpion gang for a little deck disruption.

Vodkam Tuesday 07/29/03: Secret Pass to the Treasures
PGD-037
Normal Magic

Upto 1000 direct damage onto your opponent? Sounds like fun. Too bad it's only for 1 monster. It's a bit hard to use for most beatdowns since most only have 2 monsters they would want to go in for a direct attack: Lily and Yata. This card is pretty mundane with anything else. Of course, nailing your opponent with Lily for 3400 directly is always fun but since Lily is restricted to 1, this would be a "nice to have" combo that you probably won't pull off very often. The same goes for Yata. Other monsters that fit the bill for this card would be White Magical Hat, Dark Scorpion Burglars and Hayabusa Knight. Spirit Reaper would be good for this too but since this is targeted, it would get destroyed. Any other monster would be a waste of this card unless your opponent has 1000LP or less left. You can also toss a Rush Recklessly into the combo but I don't know many people that still play that.

All in all, it's an ok card. It has limited combo potential but can hurt your opponent big if you can pull it off. It's more fun to spring this on your opponent when they think that defense mode Spirit Reaper will protect them from your Lily.
