Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Life Absorbing Machine

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating

As long as this card remains face-up on the field, increase your life points by an amount equal to half of the total life points you have paid in your very last turn.

Sorry for the no reviews last week. I'm currently at camp, so any reviews that I get in is a surprise. Let's see, Life absorbing machine.... This card works great in twos, where you would be able to use any card with a cost and basically get out of paying the cost entirely. I suppose you could actually build an entire deck around this with cards like Solemn Judgment, confiscation, Jirai gumo, Dark Elf, or any other high cost cards. But once your copies of this card are gone, you'll likely pay your way to death.

I'd give this a 2/5. Unless you're going to build a fun casual deck with this, it's not really worth the space as most decks around don't have that many life payment costs.

OK, I'm done making promises.

To use this card, you first have to use cards that require you to pay LP. We have a good variety of those. Some of the more notables are Imperial Order, Injection Fairy Lily, Dark Elf, Messenger of Peace, Delinquent Duo, Confiscation, and Premature Burial. Basically, with this card in effect, you are getting these effects for "half price".

Now, unless you are dedicating an entire deck to LP-reducing cards, using Fire Princess, or both, there are more efficient LP increasing cards, like Solemn Wishes and Nimble Momonga. Yes, I realize the normal deck these days uses 4 of the above cards (IO, Lily, DD, Confiscation), but that does not warrant use of this card. Good players will know when to conserve their LP and let that Lily get destroyed or that Imperial Order expire.

That's not saying that this card is bad. It's just there are better cards out there.

Score: 2.5

I see Life Absorbing Machine work in one casual deck. And that's Toon World based decks. But like I said, it will only work casually. Toon decks are terrible for Tournament play.

Other small, although not really effective, uses for Life Absorbing Machine would be with Solemn Judgment, Imperial Order, and hell, Messenger of Peace. There are plenty of other cards as well. Although I don't recommend trying them in anything other than a completely casual deck.

In short, Life Absorbing Machine has very limited, hardly playable, uses. And being a Trap card makes it even worse.

SandTrap Guess what, kiddies? We get to review very, very bad cards!

This card can be used as a coaster, or perhaps as a baby's toy. A quote from Aer0blade, "uh...you could set it on fire and throw it." Beyond that, I wouldn't use it at all.

Seriously, the only possible use this has is in combination with Dark Elf and Injection Fairy Lily, plus the Hand Disruption cards. Increasing your own LPs has never really been a very beneficial thing to do, especially when using cards like Dian Keto to do it. It is just not worth the deck space to increase your LPs, unless you are running a silly Fire Princess burn deck *Glares at Jason from Grapevine: cough1stRoundEliminationcough*.

Rating: .4/5. Why not use some other card? This isn't going to help you destroy a Gemini Elf, or search your deck for a better monster it just heals you a little. =/. If you play at least one of these, please take it out of your deck, pour gasoline on it, ignite it with a match, and throw it a smoldering pile of trash, along the next cards we will be reviewing this week.

This week I'm doing the picks, so I only picked cards that haven't been reviewed whether they be new or old, well not too old, but I did pick an odd bunch, so I hope you like them.

Life Absorbing Machine is one sick card, beside the picture, I mean if you run a burner, Suicide Beatdown, Toon monsters, or even Injection Fairy Lily this card can help out allot. It doesn't work for battle damage or direct damage though, only as payment for effects like Imperial Order. I noticed the card doesn't state WHEN you gain the lp back, but if you read the Tourney Rulings PDF it says in the Standby Phase, which is obvious but allot of people have asked.

At first look you may think "only gain half back" but the best thing about this card is that multiple copies are cumulative, so if you have 2 Life Absorbing Machines, you would gain the exact amount of lp paid for a cost or costs in your last turn right back, and if you have 3 LAM you would gain 1.5 times the cost paid meaning if you paid for 1000 lp to activate ToonWorld in your last turn, and you had 3 LAMs active, you gain 1500 lp back. Not to mention there are many sick lp gain/burn combo possibilities with this card teamed up with Fire Princess. Fire Princess will inflict 500 lp damage to your opponent equal to the number of times you paid a cost because the card increases your Life Points multiple times, so if you played something like Ultimate Offering and used it to summon 3 monsters in your last turn, you would do 1500 lp damage per Fire Princess if you have 1 LAM active. So imagine having: 2x LAM, 2x Fire Princess, and 1x MoP active on the field...that would do 2000 lp damage every standby phase and free protection. The damage combos are endless, and with more lp cost cards coming out, this card will just get better and better.

Beside using it to burn your opponent with Fire Princess, it makes Lily allot more playable being able to gain back either 1000, 2000 or even 3000 lp depending on how many LAMs you have active, but I think most of the time you're not going to have 3 of these out at once, or 3 of them in any given deck unless it's part of your main theme. It really does make some cards more playable now though, like Revival Jam, Dark Elf, Jirai Gumo, Mirror Wall, Fairy Box, Toons, Ultimate Offering, Premature Burial, Toll, Chain Energy, Burning Land, Mask Of Brutality, and best of all Solemn Judgment will be like only paying 1/4 of you lp instead of 1/2.

I can't say I really liked this card as much as I do now that I took some time to review it, and I hope it gets others thinking about using it more.
