A look at deck types: introduction. Hello, Lion-Fire here. Most people where I live think that there are three basic deck types: Beat down, Exodia, or pathetic. But deck types come in many shapes and sizes. Some are worse than others, true, but every type deserves a look. That is what I am doing here, with a little used, but very useful, decktype: Mixed. TYPE: so-called “Bad” mixed decks Analysis: mixed decks work really well. You see, everybody is expecting decks that aren’t a known “type” are pathetic. But, just sometimes, throwing random cards together gives a deck the kind of unexpectedness that will throw an opponent’s strategy right off. Throwing random cards together should only be attempted by an experienced duelist, as new players would probably miss most of the more subtle combos. Taking your favorite cards and putting them together is also a good idea for a mixed deck. I went to a private duel tournament at my friend’s house. Out of the 40 or so duelists that were there, only two beat my randomized deck. One beat me with a first turn Exodia pull, (the kid halved the number of cards in his deck on the first turn!!!) the other was my best friend who also uses a randomized deck. He beat me with Harpie lady, Harpie’s brother, and Takriminos. (Takriminos is a Sea-serpent!) When asked why he had those cards in his deck, he answered “because I thought that nobody would expect that” Also, just mixing two types can be considered a mixed deck, although I don’t because I always seem to see beatdown-this or beatdown-that (right now, beatdown-Exodia and beatdown-dark magician decks are really popular where I live.) I count a mixed deck at 4-5 types, with lots of mini-combos that all work well on their own, not revolving around any theme. Mixed decks are usually unexpected. I saw this little kid set Exodia when he didn’t have any monsters on the field. He lost that duel. His opponent made the same mistake that I did, thinking that his deck was Exodia, and changed his anti-Exodia cards into his deck. The kid then went on to put out “what’s-his-name” the magna warrior and attack for the win. Just to say it plainly, any mixed deck ROCKS in my opinion. Even if it is pretty pathetic, the duelist is on their way to making one of the best (in my opinion) and most versatile deck types. One that might one day have status as the best of deck types. Yes, I am biast towards this type of deck. Good cards from this type: TAKE YOUR PICK! There are way too many cards in the game, and this deck type includes all of them. Never give off a card as a “bad” card, even if it has 100 attack with no effect. Sometimes the look on a person’s face when you beat them with a card that they call useless is worth the space in the deck.
