Subject: A Little Review of LoD-TheProphet I feel a need to voice my opinion. I think I'll just do a quick review of the new Legacy of Darkness set. The first card I'd like to explore in detail is Yatagarasu. I'll show its stats and its effect, but if you don't know what the Yata does, you obviously live under a rock. Yatagarasu DARK or WIND (not sure which) Level 2 (again, i am guessing) [Fiend (or is it Winged Beast?)/Spirit] This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card returns to the owner's hand during the End Phase of the turn that this card is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned, or flipped face-up. When this card inflicts damage to your opponent's Life Points, he/she skips his/her next draw phase. ATK/200 DEF/100 I'm a bit confused about the "flipped face-up" thing. Does that mean if you set it and it's attacked and destroyed, does it return to your hand at the End Phase of the opponent's turn? Upper Deck/Konami needs to rule on that. But back to the review. I think this card rocks. Obviously, there are ways to stop it. But I will be saving up to buy one of these, a Fiber Jar, an Exiled Force, and a Spear Dragon, as those are, IMO, the best cards in the set. Ways to stop it include: Card Destruction, Fensheng Mirror, any of the MRL discarders, Forced Requsition (as log as your hand is as big or bigger than the opponent's), Torrential Tribute, Solemn Judgment, Magic Cylinder (kind of), Waboku (kind of), Swords of Revealing Light (for 3 turns), Mirror Force, Call of the Haunted (kind of), Regulation of Tribe, Mask of Weakness (to lower its ATK to 0), Offerings to the Doomed, and Lightforce Sword could keep it away for a little while. You could also Prohibition it (IMO, one of the best ways to stop it), but this is too long. Next card! Injection Fairy Lily EARTH Level 3 [Fairy/Effect] During your or your opponent's Damage Step, you may pay 2000 Life Points to increase this card's ATK by 3000 points. ATK/400 DEF/1500 This card also needs a ruling: can you pay 4000 LP to make it 6400, 6000 to make it 9400, etc.? If so, this card needs to be banned. It would be even worse than the Cyber Stein-BEUD-Megamorph combo. But that aside, I don't like this card. I just think 2000 LP is too much. And once people discover Nutrient Z, they'll sideboard it for Lily users like I have (You should try it. It works.). For those of you who don't know what Nutrient Z does, it's a normal Trap that reads: "This card can only be activated during your opponent's Damage Step. During this turn, if you take Battle Damage of 2000 points or more, increase your Life Points by 4000 points before the damage is subtracted from your Life Points." Let's make up a scenario: Your opponent has nothing but a Lily on the field and you have nothing but a Nutrient Z face-down. What's in each player's hand is of no concern. Anyway, he attacks with the Lily, uses its effect, and you activate your Trap. Your opponent takes 2000 LP damage, while you gain 600 LP (minus 3400 from the attack, plus 4000 from the Trap card). I don't know about you, but that sounds like a good deal to me. The only problem is Nutrient Z can't be activated during your own damage step. I think this card came a set to late. Thanks to Fiber Jar, Lily users will probably want some life gain in their decks. Fiber Jar EARTH Level 2 (I think) [Plant/Effect] Both players unite their respective hands, fields, and graveyards, and combine them with their decks. The decks are then shuffled and both players draw five cards. ATK/500 DEF/500 Fiber Jar is my favorite card in the set, and quite possibly one of my favorites in the whole game. And it's a darn good card, too. It essentially starts the game over, but with a few differences. First, it doesn't bring back removed cards. This could be bad for me because I run 3 Bazoos. Second, it doesn't reset LP. This spells death to Lily and Dark Elf (which I never really liked that much anyway), and any other LP-paying card. But if you flip Fiber Jar during your own turn, you still have your summon. Your opponent is totally open to attack. If that doesn't convince you to start searching high and low for a Fiber Jar, there is something wrong with your brain. Exiled Force EARTH Level 3 or 4 (not sure which) [Warrior/Effect] Offer this face-up card as a Tribute to destroy one Monster on your opponent's side of the field (Or is it either field? I don't know.). ATK/1000 DEF/1000 This is just a fun card to use. Drop it and go boom, yay! I'm betting that this will be a limited card, which kinda sucks because it would be SO fun to play 3. But hey, I will definitely try to get one of these. No matter what your opponent has, you can just X-Force it (As Twinsen 21 so eloquently put it. Go Twinsen!). I even go so far as to say it can be better than Barrel Dragon sometimes. First, Barrel Dragon is 2 Tributes. X-Force is none. Barrel Dragon requires coin flips to work. X-Force is a sure thing, as loing as your opponent doesn't Solemn Judgment or Horn of Heaven it. (In case you didn't know, X-Force's effect can still be used if it is destroyed by Trap Hole, Offerings to the Doomed, or Skull Lair.) Once LoD is made tourney-legal, a lot of people will start going boom with X-Force. Spear Dragon WIND Level 4 [Dragon/Effect] When this card attacks with a higher ATK than an opponent's defense position monster's DEF, the difference is subtracted from the opponent's Life Points. At the end of the Damage Step, this card switches to defense position. ATK/1900 DEF/0 I'm not really sure about this card. Yeah, it's good for killing Goblins or just defence-mode mons in general. It's definitely good against Scapegoat. But the position switch makes it almost as vulnerable as the Goblins. I don't care. This card rocks. I think it's even better than Bazoo in some situations. Like when your opponent has a face-down monster (duh). I will definitely play one of these but no more. I don't reccomend using more than 2. And only use 2 if you are short on Goblins. Creature Swap [Normal Magic] You and your opponent choose a monster from your own sides of the field and switch control of those monsters. The position of the monster you take control of (Or is it both monsters? I'm not sure.) cannot be changed during this turn. Well, Griggle and Ameba finally have a use. This card also works when combo'd with a Spirit card, a flipped Flip Effect monster, or Sinister Serpent. This card will likely be semi-limited, like it is in Japan. I wonder if we'll follow the Jap list and make Megamorph limited and Limiter Removal unlimited. Whatever. The point is, use this card if you have space and cards that can combo with it. Otherwise, don't use it unless you are missing Change of Heart and/or Snatch Steal. Hino-Kagu-Tsuchi FIRE Level 7 or 8 (not sure which) [Pyro/Spirit] This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card returns to the owner's hand during the End Phase of the turn that this card is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned, or flipped face-up. When this card inflicts damage to your opponent's Life Points, he/she discards his/her hand before his/her next draw phase. ATK/2900 DEF/2600 (I'm not sure if the DEF is right.) I don't understand what all the buzz is about this card. A Spirit for 2 Tributes. No. That just won't fly with me. That aside, this would be SO much better if it was Level 4. But it isn't. So it pretty much sucks unless you can meet the Tribute cost. And let's face it, that's about as easy as running a mile bound and gagged with your shoelaces tied together. Darkruler Ha Des DARK Level 6 [Fiend/Effect] This card cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard (I'm not sure if that's part of its effect.). The effects of all Effect monsters destroyed by Fiend-type monsters on your side of the field are negated. ATK/2450 DEF/1600 It has good ATK, and you don't really need a Fiend deck to use his effect to its fullest. The only downsides are the Graveyard thing (If it is actually part of the effect) and it can't be searched by Witch. I'd still use 1-2 of him in a fiend deck, but probably nowhere else. The effect can be better than having a Summoned Skull sometimes, but Skull can be searched and Ha Des can't. Sorry, but I just don't go for that. Don't get me wrong, this will definitely see some play at some point. I end my review of LoD with a list of the top ten cards in the set. 1. Fiber Jar 2. Yatagrasu 3. Exiled Force 4. Spear Dragon 5. Darkruler Ha Des 6. Asura Priest 7. Creature Swap 8. Marauding Captain 9. Tyrant Dragon 10. Convulsion of Nature (Just because it's fun) e-mail me at kungfuaxedemon1000@yahoo.com Tell me if I made any mistakes with the cards' effects and tell me what Cave Dragon does because I don't know and I want to find out. P.S. To all those who bash me now and have bashed me before, you suck at life.
