Subject: Extreme Deck Destruction - Adam Alternative Deck Designs: Extreme Deck Destruction First I'd like to give props to Andrew Lee who recently posted about creating a deck completely based around Deck Destruction. I've been playing around with this type of deck since Magic Ruler came out, and thought I'd add my two cents in. As Andrew mentioned, Swords of Revealing Light, and Messenger of Peace are necessities. This deck is designed to outlast, not to outfight. He also hit the big combo of Giant Trunade and Card Destruction, and the obvious need for MoF to get those cards back. If you want to really focus on this method, dont use any attacking monsters. MEB should be added for additional monster disruption when you get attacked. All you need to do is stall long enough to deplete your opponents deck, and there's no better way of doing that than sending their monsters back to their hand, or to their graveyard. Share the Pain will also be an asset to this deck since it relies so heavily on effect monsters. Once you flip an MEB, MoF, etc, you get their effect plus you get to kill an opponents monster and prevent your below 500 atk monster from being creamed. Now for the main additions to this deck. There are several Magic ruler cards that make this deck even better. The first two are the continuous magic cards Toll and Gravekeepers Servant (both of which are commons). Since this deck doesn't do any attacking, having a Toll or two out on the field will only hurt your opponent. Especially if you're running 3 MEB's, 3 Hane-Hane's and 3 Wall of Illusions, your opponent will think twice before paying 500-1500 LP just to get his/her monster killed or sent back to the hand. The second is Gravekeeprs Servant, which forces your opponent to discard 1 card from the top of their deck to their graveyard each time they attack. Forcing your opponent to pay LP and cards to attack will really slow them down, and combined with intermittent Swords, and Messengers, they could easily stall themselves til they are decked There are also several monsters in Magic Ruler to add to this. The first is Hiro's Shadow Scout. It's flip effect forces your opponent to draw three cards and discard any that are magic. This actually helps your deck in two ways. First, it destroys cards such as Raigeki, Dark Hole, and other cards that can destroy face down monsters without activating their effect. Since that kind of monster removal is one of the biggest weaknesses of this deck, Shadow Scouts will really help you out. Even if they draw all monsters, it can still help if timed correctly. By flipping one or two Scouts, and then following up with a Giant Trunade-Card Destruction combo, they could end up drawing upwards of ten cards from their deck. If you have the chance to use Hane-Hane's effect, it makes it that much better. Another useful monster is the Spear Cretin. This a necessity of this deck due to its heavy reliance on effect monsters. Being able to get back an MoF and reuse Card Destruction, or get a Shadow Scout to deplete their last few cards is too big of an opportunity to pass up. Flipping a Spear Cretin, and then using Share the Pain is a sure fire way of getting its effect sooner, rather than later. The last monster useful to this deck is the Labyrinth Wall. Since your main goal is to stall, having a 3000 defender can never hurt. It also gives you another way of getting your flipped Spear Cretins off of the field by using them as the tribute. Even if you're not tributing a Spear Cretin, being able to flip any of your effect monsters, and getting it off the field where its safe from slaughter is a good thing. That's pretty much it for this style of deck. Adding Waboku's is recommended for the additional stalling ability. Playing any of the big three in hand destruction (Forceful Sentry, Confiscation, and Delinquent duo) is a question I am still working on. The down side of using these cardsis that it makes their hand smaller, and reduces the effect of Card Destruction. However, if their oppening hand contains one of the powerful magic cards (Raigeki, Heavy Storm), you would be better off removing that from the start, and letting your Shadow Scouts get the rest. Like I said, this is still a question that I am toying with. At the least, they should be in the side deck so that they can be switched in if necessary. While this deck is quite fun to play around with, I have yet to make the right modifications to make it Tournament worthy. At the tournaments i've been to at Dave and Adams Card World (great tourneys and awesome prizes), I think it could do rather well against many of the competitors, but it still has flaws that the top few deulists there would exploit. I'd appreciate any suggestions that anybody might have. EMail me at fosbury@acsu.buffalo.edu. And until I can improve this deck, I'm going to be sticking with my Beatdown-Monster Removal deck that has served me so well in the past. (please don't send any beatdown hate mail, i'm trying to design a better deck, I really am.) Lastly, I'd like to thank Pojo for posting this, and providing a great site for Deulists to learn from. This has been Extreme Deck Destruction, the first in a possible series (depending on the response to this one) of alternative deck designs. This is Adam Fosbury, singing off.
