From: Simon Kempthorne Date: Apr 13, 2005 6:46 AM Subject: Simon's Top 10 Level 1 Monsters Level 1 monsters... the forgotten force. Level Limit - Area B? Gravity Bind? Metamorphosis (for the Restrict)? Opti-Camouflage Armor? All part of the Level 1 Monster's best assets. However, below are 10 particular cards that are simply brilliant, even if they have one measly little Level Star: 10: Magical Scientist. Controversy begins this list with Mr. OHKO at No. 10. Don't argue with me here; because I prefer Advanced over Traditional (in a place where everyone is stuck in Traditional Format). 1000 Life Points for ANY Fusion of Level 6 or less. Let's see... I'll have Dark Balter, Dark Flare Knight, Reaper on the Nightmare... and keep them there permanently with Book of Moon/Dimensionhole. What's not to love about that? Shame about his ban in Advanced - that's where his rating dropped. 09: Dark Mimic LV1. Hmm, let's draw another card. I believe I just drew my final Exodia piece. Game over. Awesome card - you can defend your Life Points and thin your Deck at the same time. Now that's nice. 08: Sasuke Samurai #2. Ok, so he's not going to kill much, but it'll stop your opponent's annoying Traps/Spells for a turn. That one turn could be vital. No Mirror Force for a turn. No Mystical Space Typhoons. No Magic Cylinders. Not bad for 800 Life Points. But don't be a fool and not activate all your Spells and traps BEFORE you pay the 800 Life Points. Your opponent isn't the only person who can't use those S/Ts when you activate this, too! Despite that, a good effect. 07: Charcoal Inpachi. It has 100 ATK and no effect. Bad card? No. It's a great monster - it has 2100 DEF. Nothing like seeing your opponent's beatsticks bounce off barbeque fodder. 06: Relinquished. Suck up your opponent's monsters. Suck them up some more. Unleash the power. Ahh, beautiful. Suck up those face-down Defense Position monsters and they won't activate. Nice. Not bad, I might say. And even when your opponent attacks it, they take damage also. That's nice, too. 05: Magical Merchant. A friend of Chaos decks all around - thin your Deck and maybe dump some BLS-EotB food in your Graveyard. If not, you've got a nice free resource. Imagine pulling out that Mirror Force as you flip it during your turn. Beautiful. 04: Chaos Necromancer. The name is slightly misleading - I don't know if he really works in Chaos Decks. But what I do know is that dumping stuff in your Graveyard (e.g. searchers, stallers, Magical Merchant's effect) is what makes this guy become a nasty piece of work. Watch as his attack shoots up with the amount of monsters in your Graveyard. Can be a game winner late-game. Awful for topdecking, though. Despite that, he's actually very versatile. 03: Thousand-Eyes Restrict. Holy [insert crude lanuguage here], a monster who locks the whole field up. Like little brother Relinquished, suck up monsters. Then suck up some more. Stop those flip effects. I think this must be the only Level 1 Monster in the game where you have nothing to fear in terms of Battle (so no Traps or Spells) by leaving it in Attack Position. The Lord of Annoy-your-opponent-all-the-way-to-hell. 02: Magician of Faith. If you're not sure why this is second, go away. I want nothing to do with you ever. Flip her up and receive a Spell from your Graveyard. Perhaps the most incredible effect ever. Re-use Pot of Greed. Re-use Graceful Charity. Re-use Raigeki. You cannot hate this card, it has been proven impossible to. 01: Sinister Serpent. Slithery and sinister. And it's a serpent. And it keeps coming back. Again and again. That's good, right? He's Tribe-Infecting Virus' best friend. He's Lightning Vortex's best friend. He's Raigeki Break's best fr-- I could go on and on. Can any Deck really afford not to have one of these? I think not! There you have it: the best Level 1 Monsters of Yu-gi-oh! Contact me at simon_kempthorne@hotmail.com if you have a few words to say to me. If you agree, great. If not, not so great.
