Subject: Yu-Gi-Oh Top 10 List - Tiger's Top 10 cards for a WIND DECK Tiger’s Top 10 Cards for a WIND DECK I don’t think most monster-attribute themed decks are quite tournament ready, but they’re still very fun for casual play. I have seen one player do extremely well in Upper Deck tournaments with a Light-themed discard deck, but most of the power players are still not using attribute themes. I built a Wind Deck for fun, and I made this list of the Top 10 cards I thought were necessary to make the theme playable. I didn’t list the staples of an attack deck that don’t specifically deal with the Wind theme (Raigeki, Mirror Force, Pot of Greed, the monster reborns, Imperial Order, Jinzo, etc.) Rest assured, they are in the deck. So here we go! I’ve done the list from 1 to 10, most important to least important, because I think it makes the list more readable. 1. Bladefly – Only 600 ATK on the card, but he gets his own bonus of 500 ATK for being a Wind Monster, so he’s really 1100 ATK at his worst. Then, he boosts all other Wind monsters by 500. You’ve got to protect him, but he’s the basis of the deck. 2. Flying Kamakiri #1 – When he dies, you can special summon a Bladefly. Then, use your normal summon for a Wind Monster that Bladefly can power up. Also, if your opponent has more than one monster out, use this sequence. The first opposing monster attacks Flying K. You can’t bring out Bladefly b/c the other opposing monster will kill it. So use Flying K’s effect to bring out ANOTHER Flying K, then when that one dies, bring out Bladefly. 3. Rising Air Current – Field card, boosts all your wind monsters 500. Downsides are you can only have one of them out at a time and your opponent’s Harpie’s Brothers and Spear Dragons get the same bonus. 4. Big nasty equipment cards (Axe, United, Mage Power) – Yes, any attack deck should have these. I’m listing them because they are really important to keeping Bladefly alive, which is important to the Wind strategy. A Bladefly with an Axe is a 2100 monster, keeping him safe from any main 4-star but Goblin and Bazoo. If Rising Air Current is out, Bladefly with an Axe would be 2600, which makes him super tough to kill without a magic card. 5. Spear Dragon – This is a great card for any attack deck, but its wind attribute make it a slam dunk in this deck. If Bladefly and Rising Air Current are out, Spear Dragon is a 2900 ATK no tribute monster with built in Fairy Meteor Crush! 6. Grey Wing – Could be considered a poor man’s Hayabusa Knight for a normal attack deck, but in a wind deck, he can get crazy. Just discard a card in your main phase 1, and Grey Wing can attack twice in a turn. He’s normally 1300 ATK, but Bladefly/Rising Air Current can boost him to 2300! And that’s without using equipment cards! 7. Garuda the Wind Spirit – Excellent card to combo with Bladefly. Normal summon Bladefly, then special summon Garuda at 2100 ATK, 2600 if Rising Air Current is out. Getting monsters out fast is important if you have an opportunity to hit your opponent when his field is clear. 8. Giant Trunade – Harpie’s Feather Duster is the number one M/T remover in any attack deck. And in most attack decks, the number two M/T remover is Heavy Storm. But in a deck like the Wind Deck that uses continuous magic cards like Rising Air Current, Giant Trunade is better. Plus, you can use the old Swords/Giant Trunade combo to stall longer to get Bladefly out. 9. Cyber Jar – Well, that’s not a wind monster! No, I guess not. But whereas I do not play Cyber Jar in my normal attack deck, I definitely put him in the Wind Deck. When your deck relies on monsters like Bladefly that support other monsters, getting them out together is important. Cyber Jar can help with that. Plus, it can help fish for a much needed Rising Air Current as well. The downside is that your opponent gets the same opportunity to get monsters and other cards that you do. That’s enough of a downside to keep Cyber Jar out of my normal deck, but it’s not enough of a downside to keep him out of the Wind Deck. 10. Luster Dragon – 2400 ATK, one tribute. He takes Summoned Skull’s place in a Wind Deck. Even though the card says 2400 ATK, you’ll usually summon him with at least 2900 ATK because of Rising Air Current or Bladefly. Makes the folks that play Yamata Dragon look silly, right? So that’s what I’d include in a wind deck. The neat thing is that if you’re building a deck for a different attribute, there’s comparable cards for each type. Instead of Bladefly, Flying Kamakiri #1, and Rising Air Current, an earth deck would use Milus Radiant, Giant Rat, and Gaia Power, etc. After you’ve got a core of wind monsters, fill in the big bad beatdown cards you’ll need and you’re good to go. Also, Yata Garasu is especially fun in a wind deck. You could feasibly actually destroy monsters like Hayabusa Knight with Yata if you’ve got Bladefly and Rising Air Current out. The most important thing to making this deck work is protecting Bladefly! It’s hard, but it’s fun. Definitely good for a departure from the norm. I might play a tourney with this deck, just for kicks. If I do, I’ll send a report in to pojo. Questions, comments, criticisms, ideas?
