Unearthed Name Maxum Ironbrew

When I first look at this card, the only word that comes into my mind is TERRIBLE. Not only this card heals itself only when it’s defending, it doesn’t even have protector to complement its ability. Stat wise, this card is quite good. He’s low in attack, but has high HP for its cost. However, there are a lot of ways to go around this big butted paladin, so my advice is to clear away from it in construction.

In sealed, my suggestion will still be the same. However if you can’t find any other 4 drop ally, than this pally will do

Constructed 1/5
Sealed 2/5

Maxum Ironbrew

Maxum, a 2/4 for 4, can heal when he defends...but DOESN'T have protector. If you can find a way to give him protector he's good, but the only problem with that is that it takes 4x Maxum Ironbrew and 4x (or more) of something that gives protector. That's 8 cards that could be put to better use. The Maxum + Protector combo is what we call a "lose less" combo. He doesn't do anything to help you "win more," he just kinda...stalls until he eventually dies.

Limited- 2/5- He's an ally, so you might end up playing him.
Constructed- 1/5
Casual- 1/5
Raid- 1/5

Not an outstanding card, if it had protector it would be a different story but why an opponent would swing into this and let it live is beyond me. Again this would be a card fit for a theme deck, one that requires many many dwarves of all shapes, sizes and talents. If such a deck exists then this card becomes important. However to my knowledge only the epic dwarf can supply such a theme.

Constructed: 1.5/5 (because it’s a body)
Sealed: 2/5 (a body is better than none in sealed)
Raid: 1/5 (no use what so ever)

4 cost for a 2/4? That doesn’t really float my boat and neither does his power. It does make him semi-hard to kill in battle but chances are they’re attacking him with Gellrins/Latro’s by the time you bring this guy out and they’ll take him down in 2 shots power or none. And they might not even bother to attack him anyway. He would be better with protector, so there’s some possibility of annoyance when combined with Magni Bronzeburger but for 4-drops wouldn’t you rather Leeroy (if you got the $$$), Tristan Rapidstrike or that funny Wilba guy?

Constructed 1/5
Sealed 1/5
Casual 2/5 could be annoying

Text When Maxum Ironbrew defends, he heals 2 damage from himself

An okay card, but if I am going to attack him, I am going to make sure I can kill him. Would be alot better of they made hima protector

Sealed: 2/5
Constructed: 1/5
Casual: 1/5
Raid: 1/5 But if he is given protector 5/5

Marvel
This should be short (pun intended). Stat-wise, for a 4 cost non protector ally, his attack is very low, though his defense is just right for his cost. (Fun fact : a 2/4 seems to be a norm among alliance 4 drops, there are 3 others with exact stats. The horde on the other hand, only has 1). Maxum here can heal for 2 every time he becomes a defender. His ability would be a lot more exciting if he’s a protector. As it is, he’s just an average character that can trade 2 for 1 with your opponent if you’re lucky. He’s slightly better in limited due to the environment’s lack of removals though.

Limited: 2.5/5
It’s pretty likely that he can survive for quite some time and kill 2 allies while he’s at it. Still, there are better ways to spend your resources.

Constructed: 2/5
There are lots of ways to play around his stat & ability. As a 4 drop he just doesn’t cut it. You’d be better off playing other allies.

Casual: 2/5
You can always make a fun deck using lots of healers and protectors. Still a meh card nevertheless

Raid: 1/5
Allies have shorter lifespan here, his healing ability won’t even matter

Barone Maxum Ironbrew - 31/1/07

An often overlooked ally by alliance decks, as there are better costing allies available. The only real use I can think for this fella is to double him up with Guard Duty to fully maximise his ability.

Quite handy at stopping your hero from being mauled in the early game. Of course if your feeling really combish, don't forget about The Dragon Returns to make him ready again to stop another attack and heal 2 more danage because he defends :O)

What hurts this card more than anything else is the

opposing player. Now I know you’ll probably be asking,

“Why the opposing player?”, but look at the text box.

The card states that is heals when it defends. In

order for your opponent to rid you of your Maxum they

would need to deal six damage, not the four given its

ability. This all seems well and good, but the card

only deals two damage. Your opponent will find

something better to Vanquish or whatnot, because in

the long run it’s not a card they’ll need to worry

about. When a card is merely doing two damage a turn,

and takes a lot to kill without it being a protector,

it’s not a threat. In the long run Maxum is not a card

which helps you win, merely survive.

Rocky Maxum Ironbrew

I rather like him, pay 4 for a 2 attack 4 health who heals 2 from himself whenever he defends? He can take two shots from a 3 Attacker, which is pretty good in my book.

Limited: 4/5 Great defender for a pull
Constructed 3.5/5 Still a solid defender
Casual: 5/5 Sounds like a pretty good way to counter an aggro deck.
Ony: 2/5 He can take down several whelps with him, but once Ony hits stage 2 or activates one if it's better attacks, you're toast.

I would also like to try and do the COTD for Yu-Gi-Oh and maybe do a few articles. I know more baout the mechanics of the game and I feel doing an article or a deck shop would let me help a bit more. Is that cool with you guys?
