“I’m the lord
of the wastelands,
A modern day man of steel,
I gather darkness to please me,
And I command you to kneel,
Before the…
God of thunder, and rock and roll,
The spell you’re under,
Will slowly rob you of your virgin soul.
Blah, blah, e.t.c.”
And as KISS fades into the background we review,
Thor <> God of Thunder:
Part of the ol’skool Avengers set, Thor was the
heavy hitter of the Leader/Adjacent deck type.
For anyone that doesn’t remember, or for any new
players reading, there were two basic sub-types
of Avengers teams in the aforementioned set;
Leader/Adjacent and Avengers Reservist.
In an ironic twist of fate, Avengers Reservist
starred mostly second stringers yet was by far
the superior team. There was a lot of team
attack/return to hand/stun effects and some
hardcore attack pumps, as well as an awesome
amount of integration and synergy.
Leader/Adjacent just wasn’t as good. It relied
on fixed formations and granted stat boosts
which while useful were not necessarily game
winning.
Fittingly, as an 8 drop Leader/Adjacent
character Thor will, as expected, grant you some
great attack increases, though they will not
necessarily be game winning.
And the reason they will not necessarily be game
winning is because turn 8 allows for a vast
number of alternate win conditions (Captain
Marvel, Darkseid e.t.c.) and high powered cards
(Tyrant, Darkseid e.t.c.) to be used against
you.
And sadly as Thor fits into neither category, he
isn’t really worth playing.

Thor - God of
Thunder
I like Thor, but I don't like him when I'm
playing against him. I'm pretty sure everyone
knows the setup by now, 6 drop Cap, 7 drop
Hercules, 8 drop Thor, opponent starts scooping.
20/20 F, R. Why do I have to get struck by
lightning?
