We close out
the week with the rare Gearsmith item Runic Field
Enhancer.
Gearsmith, of course, have access to arguable the
best gear cards. They also have more ways to tutor
for gear cards than the other trades. With Runic
Field Enhancer, we’ve got more reason to pack our
decks with gear pump!
For a cost of 5 and a fair threshold of 3, Runic
Field Enhancer will pump all of your characters.
Outside of Clandestine Resort, no other non-tactic
can pump all of your characters at once, and no
other card does this for both your character’s
strength and life. And instead of pumping for just
one or two, RFE pumps equal to the number of gear
cards you control.
So what gear is realistic in a competitive
constructed deck? Luteoderm Prototype and Armor come
to mind first. These two have been the prime targets
for 700160x 31f since the beginning. With the
release of First Edition part 2, we have another and
nastier option: Dethmurderbludgeon, the Craghammer.
If you haven’t seen this card yet, go look it up
quick! Other notable gear would include Spiky
Atlasphere, Tri-Pole Magnet and Hidden Sandwich.
The one I’d like to address is Hidden Sandwich.
Since it can be played anytime you could play a
tactic, this gem can add +1/+1 to all of your
characters in the middle of a battle AND save a
character. And if that character already has a gear
on it, your opponent might have planned on watching
all of your characters lose 1/1 only to find they
got bigger instead. Tech is cool.
In limited, gear may not be plentiful enough to
warrant its inclusion. In constructed, it will be
the key piece of a gear intensive/abusive deck.
