Top 10 Minis of 2008

#10: Moff Nyna Calixte
Legacy of the Force
#27/60

Date Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2009

Sith Dragon As a bit of something new, over the next two weeks we are going to review what SWF82 and i thought were the top 10 figures of 2008. This will be a composite list of our individual top 10 lists, and to show you the diversity of 2008, i was informed that when we both turned in our lists, we only had a couple figures that were the same. This should be fun. So without further ado:

#10) Moff Nyna Calixte

Nyna was actually #6 on my list. Before Legacy came out, you had basically two squad formats with the Empire. You had a grunt/trooper style squad that many times had Thrawn, or you went the force user route where you concentrated on Jedi of the Empire. When Nyna hit the scene, it created a whole new squad build for the empire that caused many to use figures that they hadnt thought of before in the Empire. Moff Calixte brought Super Stealth to the empire. Before her you would see some Storm Commandos as tech support, but post Calixte you had Shadow Stormtroopers, Noghri, Kel Dors, and a whole host of other stealth characters that could be mixed with Jedi or run as a trooper type squad. The fact that she had super stealth and Recon also helped win that pesky initiative roll.

As with all pieces, she is no longer the sleek sports car that everybody wanted to drive...umm, yeah...never mind that ;). Anyway, you dont see her as much anymore, but is she still viable? I think she is still as good as she was, but with the introduction of the Lancer and Yobuck you must be much more careful picking out the pieces to run with her. Most of her support were low HP pieces and it didn't matter because you could unload on opponents as they approached, but the Lancer and Yobuck can really cause a lot of damage now without taking any in return (or very little). Add on that 10-20 extra HP on your support and i think she can still work. In a way, the new cloaked figures helped her a bit. Since they are more prevalent, people are not running as much anti-super stealth and are instead tailoring their squads to endure the run up. In the end she is about as good as she was when she came out.

Tomorrow, the return of old gray beard. ;)
