Got a nice simple piece today. Fans of the game have been expecting the 501st Clone Trooper since Alliance and Empire came out in 2007 when its name was revealed at Celebration IV. So finally, after two years, we get our wish. Let’s see if it is worth the wait.

For 4 points more than the practically unusable vanilla clone trooper, the 501st it giving you +10 HP, +1 defense, and +2 attack. He’s also packing in Double Attack and Squad Assault. While the original clones can gain these abilities through General Aayla and Gree, these blue-clad troopers come pre-packaged with them. Besides that, there’s not much too them. Comparing it to a newer piece, the Galactic Marine, the 501st has identical stats and Double Attack over the Marine. However, the GM has access to Super Stealth which, IMO, more than makes up for Double.

So, why play the 501st? Playing them with Captain Rex gives them Greater Mobile Attack which naturally synergizes with Double Attack. Adding Admiral Yularen raises their damage potential for late-round strikes. Their multiple attacks also raise the chances of triggering criticals with Commander Cody. Finally, Obi War, Jedi General gives them yet another attack if you want to have a pseudo Clone w/ Repeater.

100: 2.5/5 You actually could try them here en masse with Rex and Yularen. If you can out activate your opponent’s beatstick, you can punish him with lots of Opportunist-boosted shots.

150: 3/5 Better here. Rex is still a must and you might even want to throw in the new Cody for extra chances at crits.

200: 3.5/5 And, surprise surprise, he works best in 200. Use them in groups to make the most of Squad Assault and throw in Flobi for good measure.
