Bounty hunter +4

The old before the new. Today we look at the original Dengar from RS. He actually isn't too bad. For 15 pts you get a solid HP usually not seen at this point level. Defense that is good, moderate attack and a solid DAM output. The bounty hunter +4 helps him to be a +12 against uniques.

That's really about all there is to him, but here are a couple other perks to this Dengar. At 15 pts he can be brought in through either Jabba or Lobot's reserves if you are facing uniques armies. He is a follower so he can get all follower effects, but cannot get non-unique follower CE's, which hurts a bit.

100pts: He can be a decent filler here, but as has been said, in 100pts you usually pick your beatstick and then fill in the rest to up the activation count. If you are using a duo over a single beatstick Dengar may be a good add. The solid stats for the level are good.

200pts: Here he can also be a good add if you are trying to fill out the end of your points, but he suffers a bit from not having either mobile or evade in today's world, but it will still take two shots from everything short of the AT-STs to kill him which is always good. If he fits your theme, then add him and give him a shot. He is not a great piece, but for the points he is a very solid piece.

Abilities: Bounty Hunter +4, Unique

I've always hated Dengar. Not nessisarilly because of his playability, but because I pulled FAR too many than I would EVER LIKE TO when buying Rebel Storm boosters. I bought 8 boosters a few weeks ago... FOUR of them were Dengars. You can imagine that I didn't quite like him too much after that.

With that being said, on to the actual stats. 40 hitpoints is pretty bad, but being only 15 points makes it somewhat understandable. He also has a decent
17 defense, +8 attack, and 20 damage. Not terrible stats, but not great ones.

His only true ability is his Bounty Hunter +4, which is a great ability, bringing his attack to a notable
+12 against those pesky uniques. Honestly, I don't
like this piece too much, for a few reasons: a) We have better pieces for 15 points. b) 40 hitpoints limits his usefulness. c) This will not allow you to use the new Dengar, which is supierer (but not by
much) and we will review tommorrow. and finally... d) This is a throw-in Unique. I hate those.

100 points: 1.5/5 Don't bother. We have better.

200 points: 2/5 Same.

Sculpt: 2/5 Arr! I'm a pirate bounty hunter star wars guy!

Bounty Hunter +4

When Rebel Storm came out over 2 years ago, there were a total of 6 bounty hunters. While not the best of the six, Dengar was average. He wasn’t meant to be a beatstick. At 15 pts, he was only meant for filler. He was nice to have for those of us who liked building theme squads for fun.
With the release of BH, this particular mini has probably seen its last day, if you ever used him to begin with. In today’s game, a figure with these stats would be considered a disappointment. See Zuckuss. Will he last long in a battle? Maybe, if he stays behind stronger characters and away from Acc Shot. Will he do much damage? Possibly. Is he worth 15 points? No. There are commons and uncommons with 15 pts or less with better stats than his. To top that off, the new Dengar, while at twice the point cost, is 5 times better. I’ll expand on that another time.
Bottom line…this figure does not have any use in tournament play. There are so many other figures that could be used that have CEs or other special abilities that can actually be useful.
100pts, 200pts…doesn’t matter. This is yet another example of a RS character that has become obsolete.

wookie lover 11 Dengar
Set: Rebel Storm

Cost: 15
HP: 40
Def: 17
Attack: +8
Damage: 20
Special Abilities: Bounty Hunter (+4 attack against unique characters)

Dengar, he is OK, but he is only 15 points, so you can add a lot more, and he an okay shooter, but the problem is, Dengar, Bounty Hunter. He simply is a lot better. He does cost more, and his HP sucks A LOT. But you get +1 attack, Deadeye, Deadly attack, Grenades 10, and Bounty Hunter. He is probably worth the cost, though he is easy to kill. But back to the RS version. He is definitely overshadowed by the new version, but for 15 points, he is good, and is worth his low cost. His main stat problems are his low attack, but bounty hunter fixes that a little, so he won’t be shooting high defense non-uniques. But he is useful. The problem is, a lot of factions offer better alternative, (RCs) and so he isn’t that great, but as a cheap backup mini, with the likes of Aurra, etc. He can see play so he isn’t horrible.

His best thing is his defense, so grunts can’t drop him. So a good shooter should go after him to get consistent hits. 40 hp makes him okay as a distraction, but the attack means that he has trouble hitting, and 15 pts is a lot just to give your other minis a turn or 2 to attack, baby boba might be better for the cost anyway.

So the ratings are

100 pt: 2/5, played well he might work, but you might as well get baby boba, seeing as he is a better grunt dropper, and double attack lets him miss a little.

200 pt: 2.2/5 you could play him with Jabba/lobot, but still then you’re paying for them, so you might as well use baby boba or the new Dengar.
