Bootstrap Bill
Review by Yerkamig
PDC 134 Bootstrap Bill (dark ally)
Cost: 1 Green
Text: Deploy-Yellow.In Bootstrap Bill's zone, your
cards have
"Reflip:Eliminate
Boostrap Bill."
Review: Any cards that have either "deploy" or "reflip"
in their text
automatically qualify for a second look. And
Bootstrap Bill has both. But
the
fun doesn't stop there. The fact he is an ally makes
his reflip even more
valuable: A permanent reflip that must be used, or
discarded by your
opponent.
One that's not limited to reflipping advantages or
allies, but ANY card.
The only downside to ol' Bootstrap might be his
deploy cost of
yellow.
But considering the gain, it might be worth it.
Imagine a hat-trick of
Boostraps showing up early. If you score, it's
celebration city. But if
you're
sweating the point, you can toss Bill all day long
to keep you alive. All of
a
sudden Bill is worth his weight in gold (literally).
But let's say you're in a pitted battle and need
help charging your
back chamber strike, but your Davy Jones ally splash
hasn't shown yet. Then
start tossin' Bill and reflippin cards to help your
deck cycle. He doesn't
stay
if he's not wanted.
Finally, Bootstrap is a common. So you don't have to
trade your
sister, get into a bidding war on eBay, or buy a box
to get one.
With all the utility that comes built into Boostrap
Bill, I'm
going to
have to break the mold of 3.5's and give him a 4.

Bootstrap Bill is the kind of ally I love. He
certainly doesn’t go in every deck but he is good to
have in a deck with a certain strategy. He costs 1
green, so he is easy to put in a deck, and he has
deploy for a yellow just in case you want to get him
in a better zone to celebrate. His ability, although
not fantastic in the early game, can definitely keep
you in the late game. Once you have two points, (or
maybe even one point and one celebration from him)
go ahead and use him right away. He can help you dig
for your kill cards or save your life. Lastly, I
love the flavor of this card because just like in
the movie, Bootstrap will sacrifice himself to give
you another chance.
