Darkrai.

# 491.

Type: Dark.

Ability: Bad dreams.

Locations: New Moon Island (Diamond & Pearl Event).

Hi everyone. Welcome to our Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re reviewing Darkrai, the Pitch-Black Pokémon.

If you are like me, you watched the new Pokémon movie featuring Darkrai some days ago, so I decided this would be a good opportunity to review this good Pokémon (2 legends in a row, that’s weird). It’s extremely hard to get. I was lucky enough to get one on July 10 (I think) last year at a Japanese theatre when this same movie premiered and then got another one traded. Back in America, I have heard from a Nintendo event featuring Darkrai coming soon, but no more info has been provided. But I’m not in the USA right now so if I’m wrong or you know something I don’t feel free to e-mail me with the correct info.

Darkrai has very good stats overall. Its special attack and speed are really good and its ability is just great. It reduces a sleeping foe’s HP so you’ll be abusing a lot of the sleep condition with this one.

As a special note, I’ve been receiving a lot of e-mails asking me where to find it or how to get certain natures. Unfortunately there aren’t many good natures (Japanese Darkrais have terrible natures) and I know I’ll be posting some impossible for the moment and I do not suggest you using any illegal device or cheat to get Darkrai. I’m suggesting the following movesets hoping that Nintendo will release the Darkrai event soon and with decent natures so when you have it you can check this review and start training it.

Let’s move on to the move combinations, let’s see what’s up with this guy…

Darkrai.

Nature: Modest (+ Special attack, - Attack).

Equip: Metronome.

EV´s: 252 HP, 252 Special attack, 4 Speed.

- Dark void / Hypnosis

- Dream eater / Dark pulse

- Calm mind

- Ice beam / Thunderbolt / Psychic

This is probably the most predictable and effective set for Darkrai. Inflict sleep condition and led bad dreams do the job. Dream eater will give you some HP (metronome is great here) and calm mind – special attack combo is for the finishing blow. If you don’t like dream eater. Dark pulse is there for extra damage.

I could probably list 3 or 4 more sets for Darkrai but all of them take advantage of hypnosis / dark void. If you want something different try pretty cool moves as Spacial rend or roar of time (both part of the Japanese event set), thunder or even substitute. I’ve seen a couple decent sets, remember the limit is your imagination.

When should I use this Pokémon?

I hope Darkrai will arrive soon to our continent, and when that happens. You will probable use this a lot, just because it’s effective and very fun to use. It’s not the ultimate special sweeper as other legends, but if you manage to take advantage of its ability, it can easily win you entire battles. It’s becoming one of my favorite Pokémon.

What should I use against this Pokémon?

Taunters will probably crush Darkrai if they are strong. Blissey is one tough wall against this, so if you see one, it’s better to switch. Not focusing of defenses is also a key point, sweep fast (with Rayquaza, Mewtwo, Dialga). I’ve even seen some Gengars offering a good battle against Darkrai.

Bottom line:

Remember I’m asking you to choose one Pokémon for our 100th Pokémon review. It doesn’t matter if we have reviewed it before as we can always think about new sets, every Pokémon is a candidate. So send me your votes via e-mail when you have the chance, thanks.

4/5
