Raticate.

# 020.

Type: Normal.

Ability: Run away / Guts.

Locations: Route 17, route 18, Pokémon mansion (FireRed, LeafGreen), snag from Chaser Furgy in Citadark Isle (XD), Route 225, route 226 (Diamond, Pearl), Evolve Ratata (All).

Hi everyone. Welcome to our Chinese New Year Special Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re reviewing Raticate, the Mouse Pokémon.

I know Raticate is not the best Pokémon out there. I am aware there is probably no way you will use this or even try to train one. But since this one is for a special, I’ll try to review this one as I review every one of them. After all, I think every single Pokémon deserves a chance to shine, and today’s Raticate’s day.

You shall never use Run Away. Use Guts, that way your attack will raise if induced with status problem.

Let’s move on to the move combinations, let’s see what’s up with this guy…

Raticate.

Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack), Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).

Equip: Brightpowder / Focus sash.

EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP.

- Super fang

- Crunch

- Sucker punch / Quick attack

- Endeavor

Bright Powder and focus shash are probably the best items for this one.. Super Fang lowers your foe’s HP 50%. Crunch for Ghost types and the rest is self-explanatory.

Raticate.

Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack), Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).

Equip: Brightpowder / Focus sash.

EV´s: 252 Attack, 129 Speed, 129 HP.

- Substitute

- Crunch

- Sucker punch / Quick attack

- Endeavor

I think this one is better then the first. Use substitute as much as you can, then endeavor and quick attack / sucker punch. Simple, but requires you to be faster than your opponent.

Raticate.

Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack), Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).

Equip: Toxic orb.

EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP.

- Protect

- Facade

- Crunch

- Reversal

Use protect and let the toxic orb activate. Façade is going to be your strongest move, crunch for ghost types and reversal when you are weak.

When should I use this Pokémon?

If you ask me, you should never use this if it’s a competitive environment. If you are going casual, then use it when you want a new challenge. Trying to make this one a decent Pokémon in battle is very hard. I suggest this one only for veteran trainers. But I’ve seen a couple of these defeating Pokémon, so try it if you want a real challenge.

What should I use against this Pokémon?

Almost every thing you can think of…

Bottom line:

Have a happy Chinese New Year. I think we have reviewed 95 Pokémon so far. And now I’ll ask you, my readers, to choose one Pokémon for our 100th Pokémon review. It doesn’t matter if we have reviewed it before as we can always think about new sets, every Pokémon is a candidate. So send me your votes via e-mail when you have the chance, thanks.

Rating:

1.5/5
