Reeve Lucario.
# 448.
Type: Fighting / Steel.
Ability: Inner focus / Steadfast.
Locations: Evolve Riolu.

Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re reviewing Lucario, the aura Pokémon.

Lucario is one of those Pokémon that left us wanting more as soon as it appeared in the movie. Lucario is a pretty good competitive Pokémon with an interesting type combination. Unfortunately its defenses aren’t that good for a steel Pokémon, but it has some potential in today’s environment, where we are still experimenting with Pokémon capabilities.

Both abilities are somehow useful sometime, so just pick the one you like the most. I like Inner focus.

Let’s move on to the move combinations, let’s see what’s up with this guy…

Lucario.
Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack).
Equip: Salac berry / Choice scarf.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP.
- Swords dance / Earthquake
- Cross chop / Close combat / High jump kick
- Shadow claw
- Stone edge

This is the first and logical move combination for Lucario; you can use Extremespeed if you are going to face reversal users. Simple as using swords dance as much as possible, let the berry activate and sweep away. It covers pretty much a lot of types, so hopefully you will sweep at least two Pokémon with this guy without switching. If you use choice scarf is a different story; use earthquake instead of swards dance, then it’s all about switching and predicting your foe’s Pokémon, a little more strategy.

Lucario.
Nature: Timid (+ Speed, - Attack).
Equip: Salac berry / Choice scarf.
EV´s: 252 Special attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP.
- Calm mind / Psychic
- Aura sphere
- Flash cannon
- Dark pulse / Dragon pulse

No, I am not out f my mind. Lucario has a very high special attack so it’s a decent special sweeper as well. Same strategy; use calm mind as much as possible and sweep. If you are using choice scarf then use it on early game and switch a lot. It’s a pretty good surprise for anyone to see a special sweeper Lucario.

Lucario.
Nature: Timid (+ Speed, - Attack), Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack), Hasty (+ Speed, - Defense), Naive (+ Speed, - Special defense).
Equip: Life orb.
EV´s: 252 Special attack / Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP.
- Cross chop / High jump kick / Close combat / Sky uppercut / Brick break / Aura sphere / pulse Bomb
- Earthquake / Extremespeed / Shadow claw / Stone edge / Iron tail / Flash cannon / Dragon pulse / Dark pulse / Psychic
- Earthquake / Extremespeed / Shadow claw / Stone edge / Iron tail / Flash cannon / Dragon pulse / Dark pulse / Psychic
- Earthquake / Extremespeed / Shadow claw / Stone edge / Iron tail / Flash cannon / Dragon pulse / Dark pulse / Psychic

This has to be the most confusing move combination ever. So I apologize for this, but it was the only way to put all that information in little space. This is basically the life orber, either special or physical sweeper. You choose the nature, EV spread (attack or special attack) and the attacks according to your decision. Both work well, but somehow people are more inclined to the physical sweeper.

When should I use this Pokémon?
As we have seen is it capable to do both kinds of sweeping. So use it just to see which one is your favorite. It is a good competitive Pokémon both in game and tournaments so expect to see this guy a lot.

What should I use against this Pokémon?
Earthquake is once again the worst nightmare of our Pokémon of the week. Being Steel type is quite a disadvantage and as I said before, Lucario’s defenses aren’t that good.

Bottom line:
Lucario is popular, and it will probably become even popular among mid-experienced players. So prepare yourself to face a lot of these guys…

Remember, if you have DP versions and want to trade or battle with me. I already have a list of haves and wants here in the Pojo Forums; the URL is http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=454580 for trading (have some good shinies and legendaries). If you want to battle then send me a PM or send an e-mail to reeve.ryu@gmail.com.

Lucario
#448
Ability:Inner Focus, Steadfast
Type: Fighting/ Steel

Well Lucario just looks really cool. One of the more popular pokemon from the new generation. Its Ablities aren’t so great, I would say Inner Focus over steadfast just for fake outs I guess.

Lucario
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 Special Attack, 252 HP, 4 Spd
Item: Life Orb

Agility
Aura Sphere
Dragon Pulse
Shadow Ball/ Dark Pulse

Agility then sweep. Usually whenever you have a pokemon with agility in its set to then sweep its immediately compared to Metagross. Lucario isn’t as great as Metagross but its still a force to be reckon with. Dragon Pulse for the ragons, as Salamence is always popular and Garchomp is getting popular as well. Here is another look at Agility Lucario

Lucario
Nature: Adament
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 HP, 4 Spd
Item: Life Orb

Agility
Hi Jump Kick/ Close Combat
Earthquake
Crunch

Just about the same but physical instead of special. Its up to you whether you want hi jump kick or close combat but I prefer hi jump kick. You have other options other then Crunch like Stone Edge or Blaze Kick but I like Crunch to handle ghost types.

Well overall Lucario is pretty solid. You can also use him as a hit and runner but I don’t personally like him in that spot. I still like Metagross better but he definitely is worth looking at.

Overall Rating: 3.8
Carbunkle Name: Lucario
Ability: Steadfast/Inner Focus
Type: Fighting/Steel
Nature: Lonely (+Atk, -Def)
Item: Choice Band
EV's: 252 Atk, 252 S.Atk (Speed)

Steadfast increases Lucarios Speed when it gets flinched but Inner Focus
makes him immune against flinching so its a tough choice here. Leave it up
to you to decide.
Nature to get the Atk. up which will be good.
Choice Band to make sure you get the strength in everything.
Weakness are Fire, Ground and Fighting. Now lets see...

Attacks:
1) Close Combat
2) Psychic
3) Poison Jab
4) Earthquake

Close Combat to deliver massive damage, and being STAB it generates even
more damage.
Psychic to take out Fighters and Poisonus fiends.
Poison Jab I put in just because of the high rate of poisoning the enemy.
Earthquake takes care of the Fire types.
I know I didn't put anything against ground but with Close Combat you can
take out pretty much everything.

Im gonna use this one, if I can get ahold of that many TM's

Lucario

Another strong sweeper Diamond and Pearl has brought us, but not as much so as Garchomp. Lucario has the advantages of versatility - he can attack with either physical or special attacks thus making it harder for your opponent to predict your strategy. Lucario can make up for being weaker than other mono-sweepers and lead you to victory.

4/5
