Entei

Date Reviewed: 04.13.07

Ratings & Reviews Summary: 2.88

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale.
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.  5 is the highest rating.

Reeve Entei.
# 244.
Type: Fire.
Ability: Pressure.
Locations: Random location after beating Elite four, if you chose Bulbasaur (FireRed, LeafGreen), Snag from Cipher Admin Dakim (Colosseum).

Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re reviewing Entei, the volcano Pokémon.

I don’t really like legendaries, and I’m just arriving from a totally awful multivariable calculus exam, so don’t expect this to be pretty for our doggy friend… Entei is a fire type, and that’s not always good. It has good Special attack but doesn’t have the moves to take advantage of it. It has good amount of HP but that’s about it. Water types are everywhere and this guy is not exactly a tough opponent for them…

Entei has the legendary ability pressure, as we already know, it is nothing to worry, if you face this ability just take your time and don’t worry too much, switch if you are running out of PP…

We have a legendary sunny beamer for today, that’s something new…

Entei.
Nature: Speed (+ Speed, - Attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 Speed, 252 Special attack, 6 HP.
- Sunny day
- Solar beam
- Fire blast
- HP Fighting

HP fighting is kind of your attack for normal types. Unfortunately it won’t do a lot. I have seen some sets with substitute and calm mind; you are free to try ;)

When should I use this Pokémon?
There are not many tournaments accepting legendaries, so you’ll have to use it in casual battles.

What should I use against this Pokémon?
If you really want to use legendaries try Suicune, it’s a free victory. Any other water or earth Pokémon will work great (Dugtrio is a good choice).

Bottom line:
Probably one of the worst legendaries ever…

2/5

Hope you enjoyed.

Carbunkle They are so kind to me, they let me do even more reviews.
You love me guys =)

Well, over to the review.
This week is Entei, 1 of the 3 "fearsome" and oh so freaking hard to catch
(if you remember silver/gold, still hate roar because of them).

We will start of with the data.

Entei
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Mild/Modest

The ability you can't do a thing about but its good when you are facing
someone that has BIG attacks with little PP.
The Nature is to raise it's Sp. Atk and not lowering it's Sp. Def and Speed.
The other stats aren't oblivous here.

Sp. Atk: 306
Speed: 328

Item: Bright Powder

Attacks:
1. Flamethrower
2. Sunny Day
3. Calm Mind
4. Rest/Solarbeam

This is how I would put up the Entei in Emerald.
Ok, now we come to the strategy.
This one is for 1v1 combats not in 2v2.

1) Flamethrower is a strong fire attack with high accuracy, use it.
2) Sunny day powers up fire?
3) Calm Mind for more Sp. stats.
4) Here it depends. Solarbeam because of the Sunny Day which also lets you
knockdown any water pokemon that the enemy would like to throw out.
Rest if you want to give it some life and get away from any stats.

Well, Entei isn't my first choise.

Ratings: 3.5/5

Like I said, Entei isn't my pokemon, but he isn't bad. Use him wisely.

Carbunkle, over and out
James Entei
#244
Type Fire
Ability(s): Pressure
Locations: Wild in Kanto after Elite 4 when Starter chosen was Bulbasaur
(Fire Red, Leaf Green)
Snagged from Cipher Admin Dakim in Mt. Battle
(Colosseum)

Today we are reviewing the volcano Pokémon, Entei.

Entei, in my opinion, is the worst of the three legendary dogs. The reason
is that Entei may have decent stats, but its move set is terrible. Even
though it has poor moves to choose from, it is one of the better pure fire Pokemon.

With that said, here are some battle strategies for Entei:

Entei
Nature: Lonely (+attack, -defense)
EV’s: 126 speed, 252 attack, 132 special attack
Ability: Pressure
Equip: Charcoal
-Hidden Power (ghost) (TM 10)
-Flamethrower (Lvl 51, TM 35)
-Return (TM 27)
-Iron Tail (TM 23)

A modified Physical Sweeper. Just attack, attack, and attack. Use Flamethrower against ice, bug, grass or steel Pokemon only.

Entei
Nature: Mild (+special attack, -defense)
EV’s: 126 speed, 132 attack, 252 special attack
Ability: Pressure
Equip: Petaya Berry
-Sunny Day (TM 11)
-Solarbeam (TM 22)
-Hidden Power (Ghost)(TM 10)
-Flamethrower (Lvl 51, TM 35)

A modified Special Sweeper. (AKA, the sunnybeamer)

In honor of the release of Diamond and Pearl on April 22, here is a strategy for just Diamond and Pearl:

Entei
Nature: Mild (+special attack, -defense)
EV’s: 126 speed, 132 attack, 252 special attack
Ability: Pressure
Equip: Petaya Berry
-Calm Mind (Lvl 78, TM 04)
-Stone Edge (TM 71)
-Extrasensory (Lvl 64)
-Flamethrower (Lvl 51, TM 35)

Bottom Line: Entei is one of the hardest Pokemon for new trainers to use.

Entei

Entei's stats and movepool are not top of the range. The calm mind moveset can wall Blissey by using 101HP subs that Blissey cannot break with Seismic
toss:

Calm Mind
Flamethrower / Fire Blast
Hidden Power
Substitute
@ Leftovers
132 HP / 136 Spd / 240 SAtk
IVs to give HP grass.

There are simply better choices though as popular water pokemon (Suicune, Swampert, Vaporeon, Lapras) have no problem with it and can haze or roar its calm minds away. Not too useful.

3/5
