Pojo's Pokemon of the Week

Luxray

Date Reviewed: 07.20.07

Ratings & Reviews Summary: 2.33

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale.
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.  5 is the highest rating.

Reeve Luxray.
# 405.
Type: Electric.
Ability: Intimidate / Rivalry.
Locations: Evolve Luxio.

Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re reviewing Luxray, the gleam eyes Pokémon.

Luxray is an electric physical sweeper. That’s new isn’t it? If you are like me, you trained one early on your game just because Shinx was a good Pokémon to have. Luxray has a pretty good attack, but it has a pretty bad speed for a sweeper and doesn’t have good defenses either. So this one needs a little experience to be trained and used properly.

Both abilities are good. Intimidate is capable of forcing switches and Rivalry is pretty good if you have the correct gender and work on your speed EV’s.

Let’s move on to the move combinations, let’s see what’s up with this guy…

Luxray.
Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).
Equip: Salac berry.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP.
- Crunch
- Thunder fang
- Ice fang
- Howl

Use howl until Salac berry activates (hopefully it will activate). You are covering almost every type on the game with your elemental fangs. It’s risky, but if you manage to make it work, it will be pretty good.

Luxray.
Nature: Naughty (+ Attack, - Special defense).
Equip: Choice scarf.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Special attack, 4 HP.
- Thunderbolt
- Thunder fang
- Ice fang / Fire fang
- Crunch

One of the new hit and run sets. It’s pretty easy to use. Just remember the main rule; use it early on battle and switch every time.

When should I use this Pokémon?
I can’t really tell you this is a good Pokémon. I mean, it’s not that bad, but it should be faster or at least have more defenses. It is a decent sweeper, but if you really want an electric physical sweeper, use Electivire.

What should I use against this Pokémon?
Physycal tanks will work well. Fast earthquake users as Dugtrio will take it out easily.

Bottom line:
Decent, but not the best…

Remember, if you have DP versions and want to trade or battle with me. I already have a list of haves and wants here in the Pojo Forums; the URL is http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=448891 for trading (have some good shinies and legendaries). If you want to battle then send me a PM or send an e-mail to reeve.ryu@gmail.com.

Rating:
2.5/5

Hope you enjoyed.
Reeve.

Carbunkle Man, I thought I would be reviewing something that looked like a sphinx just
because its base stage is Shinx. Oh well.

Name: Luxray
Ability: Intimidate/Rivalry
Type: Electric
Nature: Lonely (+Atk, -Def)
Item: Bright Powder
EV's: 252 Atk, 252 Speed (Hp)

Here the ability really kicks in because the different 2 are good in their
own ways.
Intimidate lowers the opponents Atk when this comes out but Rivalry
increases the Atk if the opponent has the same gender which is good so I say
stick with Rivalry.
Nature is to get the Atk up but lower Def. But all Electric pokemons have
had problems with the Def so we will stick with it.
Bright Powder is to get that little peace of extra surviving. You are gonna
love it when you can take out that big thing just because they where unlucky
to miss with their strongest attack.
The good thing with Electric types are that they only have 1 weakness and
its Ground.

Attacks:
1) Thunder Fang
2) Rest
3) Sleep Talk
4) Facade

Strategy?
Thunder Fang to attack the watery fiends. 10% to either Flinch or to
Paralyze. Pretty good infact.
Facade if the enemy puts a status on you. Then after that Rest and Sleep
Talk while sleeping.

Is it a luxury ray or what? Please tell me.
The name is strange infact.
But this one cant learn much good attacks but this move set will make it
playable.

Rating:
3.7/5

Still waiting for D/P to be released. Anyone that also want Fione now can
just contact me as soon as I can get the Ditto over to it when I get D/P.

Over and Out

Nathan Hello, all, and I hope you are well. This week, we have Luxray, the Egyptian Shock-Lion-Cat-Thing!

Luxray
Electric/ReallywantstobeDark
Ability(s): Intimidate (Upon Luxray's Entry in Battle, all opponent's Attacks are lowered) Rivalry (If the opponent is of the same gender as Luxray, then Luxray's Attack rises) Base Stats:
HP: 80
Atk: 120
Def: 79
SpAtk: 95
SpDef: 79
Spd: 70

So we see high Atk, near-high SpAtk, and meh stats everywhere else.
But the real badness is in the move pool. Let's see if I can get together a moveset or too!

Luxray@Leftovers
Adamant Nature (SpAtk-, Atk+)
Atk: 252, Spd: 252, HP: 6
-Thunderbolt/Spark
-Crunch
-Quick Attack/Ice Fang
-Roar/Thunder Wave/Quick Attack

I like Quick Attack over Fang, and Roar over TW. Meh, nothing to say, other than Thunderbolt will do more than Spark in almost all curcumstances (I think... I haven't done the calcs in a while). The spread is also meh.

I can't bring myself to make another set. This thing is just not very good. It will see some use, but not much.

Overall: 1.5/5
Looks: 3/5

All for now, peeps.
