Weavile.

# 461.

Type: Dark / Ice.

Ability: Pressure.

Locations: Evolve from Sneasel (Diamond, Pearl).

First of all we have a contribution by Monolightning from our Pojo forums; he has a pretty cool Regice…

This is a very underused pokemon that goes under the radar.

Regice
Leftovers
Relaxed
Evs: 252 hp/56 def/104 sp. def/98 sp. atk
Blizzard
Curse
Thunderpunch
Hammer Arm

It is a very underused wall who's hidden variety of attacks lie in not the special attacker version, but the mixed one. This thing is an amazing tank when timed correctly and can sweep once you have 2-3 curses. It can already defend sp. atks almost as well as blissey 1 curse- can survive stone edge from almost any poke(unless the have choice band). 2 curse- can take away 50% health from blissey w/ one hammer arm and w/ hail canceling out lefties, 2 shots are all you need. At this point you can also one shot a t-tar w/ hammer arm and 2 shot gyarados w/ t-punch (assuming it intimidated you). You can also survive one shot of close combat from heracross. 3+ - this thing can sweeper over half of your opponent team.

Thanks Monolightning, I’ll be sure to try it out sometime… Now to business

Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re reviewing Weavile, the Sharp claw Pokémon.

Weavile is one of the worse looking shinnies out there. Bur besides that, It is a pretty solid physical sweeper. Sneasel wasn’t popular at all back in the GBA days, but now Weavile is one of those Pokémon you just want to train and try out. Its type combination is pretty good, but leaves him with a couple important weaknesses. Its defenses are not very good, so you will have to hit and run or die.

Pressure is better in doubles, along with other Pokémon using protect. I don’t think it is a very important difference in singles.

Let’s move on to the move combinations, let’s see what’s up with this guy…

Weavile.

Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack).

Equip: Choice band.

EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.

- Night slash

- Ice punch

- Brick break / X-scissor / Poison jab

- Shadow claw / X-scissor / Poison jab

As I told you before, hit and run. X scissor and poison jab are cool surprises, but if you want to go safe, use brick break and shadow claw. Switch if you find a dragon dancer or a faster Pokémon. Otherwise hit and switch.

Weavile.

Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack).

Equip: Salac berry.

EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.

- Night slash / Faint attack

- Ice punch

- Swords dance

- Aerial ace

I know some of you just hate the choice items, so this one is for you. You have to compensate that with swords dance, then just sweep. Try to use it in early game, just to maybe earn some power predicting a switch.

Weavile.

Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack).

Equip: Life orb.

EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.

- Night slash

- Brick break

- Ice shard

- Ice punch / Swords dance / Aerial ace / Shadow claw / X-scissor / Poison jab

I’m still experimenting with this one, but I haven’t been playing for quite a time now. Anyway, this is the one to use against faster/ salac berry user / dragon dance Pokémon. Life orb + STAB + Ice shard = big hit. I’d suggest you to use Ice punch as your last move, and to use the same hit and run strategy with this one. Let me know your impressions about this one if you decide to try it.

When should I use this Pokémon?

It is interesting sweeper for casual play, if you want to use it competitively use it with a decent backup team, remember you will hit and run with this one, or hit a couple times before dying.

What should I use against this Pokémon?

Usually Tyranitar, Slaking, Garchomp, Salamence, Aerodactyl and almost any fighting Pokémon work well. The faster the better.

Bottom line:

One of the new DP jewels, Weavile will be used a lot in the next years, so be aware of it.

Rating:

3.5/5
