Umbreon

Date Reviewed: 02.03.07

Ratings & Reviews Summary: 4.2

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale.
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.  5 is the highest rating.

Reeve Umbreon.
# 197.
Type: Dark.
Ability: Synchronize.
Locations: Starter Pokémon (Colosseum).

Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re reviewing Umbreon, the moonlight Pokémon.

Umbreon is not my favorite eeveevolution, but it is probably the most effective one. It has awesome defenses, as well as a very good move pool. Ok, it can’t attack that directly but this eon is special because of its ability to learn the baton pass / mean look combo. Which is VERY good, believe me.

Umbreon has the same ability as Espeon, Poison, burn or paralyze your opponent if he/she does…

Basically there is just one standard move combination for Umbreon, but just to have more choices, let’s review two…

Umbreon.
Nature: Bold (+ Defense, - Attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 HP, 129 Special defense, 129 Defense.
- Mean look
- Baton pass
- Toxic
- Substitute

This is basically the Umbreon you’ll find in any team. The baton passer is very hard to defeat. Use this one as your opener; it will unbalance your rival’s original strategy.

Umbreon.
Nature: Calm (+ Special defense, - Attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 Speed, 129 Defense, 129 Special defense.
- Mean look
- Baton pass
- Taunt
- Rest/Moonlight

The taunter is almost the same as the one before, but this one can get rid of the phazers. I prefer Rest, but you can try moonlight if you can’t stand waiting…

When should I use this Pokémon?
I’d say this one is for advanced users as the taunt and switch strategy is simple, but hard to use properly… But if you train enough and you feel confident use it. You don’t have to fear Machamp, it won’t OHKO this one…

What should I use against this Pokémon?
You could choose a dragon dancer Tyranitar with brick break or something like that. Crobat is also good if you’re faster and Umbreon doesn’t have taunt, desperate strategies like explosion might work as well.

Bottom line:
Probably the best eon out there, not exactly a sweeper, but learn how to use it and you’ll be happy with the results.

Rating:
4.2/5

Hope you enjoyed.
Reeve.
