Loretta's Pokemon Toy Blog
Sept 17, 2007

By now you've seen the ad on Pokemon.com for the Toys 'R' Us "The Pokemon Shop" that will run from September 18 to November 1 at many TRU's nationwide. Have you had a chance to peek at the stock? My local TRU had started setting up last week, before I knew about the promotion; by yesterday, many new items were on the display island! I found this new DVD game, Champion Island, that looks pretty cool:

http://www.snaptvgames.com/games_kids_pokemon.php

It was $19.99 at my TRU; HOWEVER, a word of CAUTION for parents: the box does not indicate on the outside the specs for the game. If you open the box and then unseal the DVD, you'll discover the leaflet inside the DVD indicates the DVD is designed to work on *newer* DVD players. It did not work on my DVD player (circa 2001). DVD players are relatively cheap now, so, I guess I'll add that to my Santa's list. Still, it bothers me that I won't know if the game will work until I unbox a new DVD player... :-\ I assume people popping this into their PCs won't have the same issues as new software is at your fingertips online. The cardboard game board and pieces are nice quality and very colorful (a storage pouch is included for the pieces so they won't get lost), so, I think it's probably worth checking out for younger Poke-fans.

TRU had 3 different new Pokemon D&P t-shirts on display--the largest a boys' size 7, so, alas, no boys' size large for me this round (i.e., I need a 14! ;) (random e-Bay scans):

Not to despair, Hot Topic has another new men's size shirt on their site, a blue Pikachu:

TRU also had Pikachu Halloween costumes for younger children; here's a random e-bay scan:

My local TRU had heavily stocked the larger talking plush; however, the mini plush continue to fly off the shelves, despite restocking efforts. If you can't find 'em there, you might want to try a Meijer in your area as it seems fewer fans know to look there and they often have more on the shelf due to less foot traffic in the toy section at the moment (that will change come the holiday shopping season, so, check now if you must have this wave; another wave is due closer to the holidays and there is no way to know whether any of the prior wave will be left. It appeared to me that the boxes of plush only had 1 Pachirisu and 1 Buneary per...).

My local TRU indicated they had not yet received all the items for the display; I will keep looking and keep you posted. Eagerly anticipated are the trading figures which are supposedly due for release this week unless I've missed another update on the date... :O There are lots of TCG packs and portfolios, figures and toys on the shelf with more to come soon! Don't forget about the October 7 free ballcap with $20 purchase promo; by then, there are sure to be many choice items from which to choose to make up your quota! Pika pi!!!

L.
